The villain of the movie
immblueversion replied to heavens-champion's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
According to The Journal of the Two Sisters, Princess Luna learned a spell from Star Swirl that would let her move the stars. From this we can surmise that Nightmare Moon used the power of the stars to break the spell, but had to wait one thousand years for some reason, probably when the spell was weak enough.- 85 replies

Let's put things in perspective, then: The Mane Six and a bunch of ponies come together for a huge party. Villains crash said party and capture many innocent ponies. The Mane Six have to venture outside of Equestria and into a new, foreign (i.e., "alien") land to stop the villains. At one point in the movie, they need advice from ponies who've faced the villains before (the "teaming up with baddies" thing was a huge misreading). Those ponies happen to live in the ocean, so they must transform all Atlantica-in-Kingdom-Hearts-like to survive. This is the only time they transform. Pirates.

See, this is what happens when people don't have context. Allow me to explain: the whole "alien" thing stems from the mention that the Mane Six would visit a "scary alien world". And that was only a rough translation: by "alien", they did not mean "extraterrestrial". It is simply another word for "foreign" or "unfamiliar". You know, much the same way the Everfree Forest and its laws of nature were "alien" to the ponies. And where do you think the term "illegal alien" comes from? Anyway, I found a video of the very panel this information was announced in, and it has a far clearer translation. The full excerpt should put your minds at ease: "Our ponies will have to venture beyond Equestria into a giant, scary, cruel, foreign world. And they will feel very minuscule in comparison to this huge world." Here is the whole video. Maybe this will raise far more interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0eEZG4J49Q If you mean the group shot of the Mane Six as alicorns, that was fanart that predates the movie's announcement by at least two years.

spoiler So...Celestia and Luna weren't born alicorns?
immblueversion replied to Silver Stream.'s topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
We know according to The Journal of the Two Sisters that alicorn-kind predates Equestria, just like every other pony race. But when Celestia and Luna said that the birth of an alicorn in Equestria (a key phrase) was beyond their understanding, I'm inclined to believe that natural-born alicorn-kind not only predates Equestria, but may not even be of their world. On another note, yes, I acknowledge Rarity's belief that alicorns are only born when an ordinary pony accomplishes a princess-like task and earns their wings. But do you know what else she said? She said that she'd never heard of such a thing before in "Magical Mystery Cure". Clearly she was unfamiliar with Cadance's backstory, which as some of you already know, is present in the book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell, and saw her earn her horn, not her wings. And if you find the canonicity of this story questionable, note that the show's staff directed a questioner at an SDCC panel to this very book when asked about Cadance's origins. So it's safe to say the show accepts this as canon. With all this in mind, I don't think we can count Rarity as a reliable source in the area of alicorn knowledge, as awesome as she is. So fret not: there is nothing in the show to decisively disprove Celestia and Luna as natural-born alicorns, or completely overturn current alicorn lore, for that matter. All Faust said was she only ever planned there to be two alicorns, period. Unless I'm mistaken, she never said a word about how they became alicorns. That point was rendered moot since Season 2, as well as any other plans and intents she had after she left the show, sadly. -

mega thread MLP FiM Season 5 Preview Info (Spoilers)
immblueversion replied to Batbrony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think we're overdue for a preview. There's usually something posted on the official MLP Facebook. Even CotLM and TOWPPK had semi-related things posted, though they weren't from the episodes themselves (one was "Hearts Strong as Horses" and the other was an image from the ever famous "make it stop" scene), probably to avoid spoilers. The SDCC preview alone isn't going to cut it, and I haven't touched that video in months so the song won't outstay its welcome when I watch the episode. At least a name for the Lena Hall pony would be appreciated. -

Since the announcement of a potential airdate for the MLP movie in 2017, people have practically been singing songs about the end of G4. Now, I'd like FIM to go out with a bang instead of a whimper as much as the next guy, but so many people seem so sure about this, even though there isn't any solid evidence as far as I know. I figured, there has to be more to it than just a "six seasons and a movie" mentality. This got me thinking: since FIM is bound to end sooner or later to pave the way for G5, what would be your ideal end for the show? How long would you like it to last? And what would you expect from G5? For me, as I said, a theatrical feature does seem like the way to go. There's nothing else I find myself adding to that. As for G5, it would be neat if it turned out to be a sequel to G4, set a few years after the finale. The Mane Six and the CMCs would be older, living their dreams and helping a whole new generation of ponies, like the Cake twins and Shining Armor and Cadance's baby. It'd open a whole new door to younger fans, while older fans could continue to follow the show and see where it goes. Those are my thoughts, anyway. What about you?

Well, it's nearly upon us. Next week is our big special guest appearance from Lena Hall, and (unless I'm mistaken) AKR's final outing on the show. I was kind of expecting to see a promo for it during today's episode like they did with Weird Al's appearance in Pinkie Pride, but I suppose not. Still, we've got a whole week ahead of us. And I know we can expect a promo for the season finale soon...

Might I also add that I loved the Humane Five in FG far more than I did in the first two movies? In the first film, the way they get back along after fighting with each other is treated as such a big deal, but it's given so little weight and resolved so quickly that it makes the whole "We hate each other because we got fake text messages" plotline feel even more stupid than it was. And in RR, as you said about being able to predict certain outcomes, it felt so obvious that they'd all put aside their differences in the end that it just made their movie-long arguing a chore to sit through. The first two movies spent so much time on them arguing over things I couldn't get invested in, it felt like such a breath of fresh air to see them getting along not just with each other in FG, but also Sci-Twi. Going into this movie the first time, I was dreading that the FG would act like huge jerks towards Sci-Twi just for being in Crystal Prep, thereby undermining their whole "We used to be bad friends, but we're different now!" spiel, given the whole "rivalry" vibe at the beginning of the movie. Granted, it did seem jarring to see CHS actually trying to get along with CPA after going on about how much they hated each other, but that just made it so much nicer to see. On top of that, we got to see the Humane Five truly demonstrate their elements for the first time in the movies. Flutters and AJ being good sports, RD saving Sunset's life, Pinkie being her fine party-throwing self, Rarity being, well, Rarity... These, along with the Sunset/Sci-Twi development and interactions, made for the movie's best scenes. I loved them because they not only showed their elements to each other, but also CPA. It made each scene feel so organic, I honestly didn't notice that they were setting up the "our magic lies in our elements" twist until two-thirds in the movie. And when it all built up to the climax, well, let's say it was what the first movie's climax should've been. When making a sequel or spin-off, you should at least make it accessible and understandable for those who aren't familiar with the original. The first movie failed at that by listing each of the girls' elements in the cafeteria song and transformation sequence, even though they barely even get to exhibit those traits in the movie. You'd need to be familiar with their actions in the show for it to make any sort of sense, and even then, it felt tacked on. But not in FG. It was a moment that was being built up from the very beginning, and it truly deserved the climax it reached. Maybe people have a point when they say Rainbow Rocks does do things better. Better songs, more entertaining villains...but not this.

Not quite. I knew Twilight would end up thinking Discord put her friends under a spell, but instead of getting an introspective on Twilight's self-destructive thoughts for the sake of being a good role model, I predicted that Discord would reveal he used his magic just to convince the Mane Six to give him a chance to be friends, since they didn't seem to fond to be around him before despite his genuine reformation. But that prediction was based on what we knew about the episode's plot at the time, when we thought the main conflict would be Twilight figuring out what Discord did to her friends.

I'm aware lists have been proven true before. But the creators have also called genuinely fake lists fake, such as these two. Besides, even if they do add a new Element of Harmony, how would courage tie into friendship? Would it be the courage to stand by your friends (i.e., loyalty)? And we only know the Cutie Castle is real because it showed up in the Gameloft game months before this list came out. -
