  1. I have never been banned from an online forum or website, but I have been banned from a flesh and blood college club. I was taking part in a multi-team club project, my entire team had defected halfway through the project and the project organizer wouldn't let me switch teams kicking me off the project instead. So for the first and last time in my life a wrote a written letter of complaint to one of the other club officers. They investigated the matter and then had my membership promptly revoked for "disrespecting" the project organizer within the space of a week. Turns out, my defecting teammates had some really bad things to say about me. The whole matter just kind of sucked through and through and wasn't really even worth fighting.
  2. I have been enjoying a lot of Stellaris recently. Nothing like leading a race of starfish aliens to conquer the galaxy using their army of sentient robots and fleet of sentient space ships. Still feels incomplete, but it is a lot of fun. Also, no mention of City Skylines. I know its not a proper grand strategy game but Paradox did give us a proper spiritual successor SimCity after EA happened to Maxis.
  3. Quoted for truth. I had to read through this in high school, and while the English teacher had a field day with the symbolism I found the story itself to be dull and the characters to be absolutely detestable. The latter could be intentional, but it makes the reader completely unsympathetic with the characters and by extension the story, which is a pretty big flaw for something that is supposed to be a "classic". I also could never get into Great Expectations. Besides being stuck with another abused English orphan (seriously England, what the heck?), a lot of the character motivations never made sense to me and some of the events felt contrived. I don't know, it seems like your opinion of Catch-22 goes beyond mere dislike. And it would seem really easy for the classics to be overrated precisely because they are classics; the bar of public perception is set so high to begin with you can only think "what the heck is wrong with the literature community" after you suffer through the likes of the Great Gatsby. Even some of the better classics while interested to read through, still leave you with the question of what exactly made it a classic rather than just a good read. Example: The Most Dangerous Game, good story for sure, but timeless cultural edifice? I do agree with you on Shakespeare though, that man earned his place as one of the greats.
  4. I am rather attached to my sense of hearing so I make a point to avoid doing this.
  5. I am up for forming an Overwatch group. I was playing it with friends but one friend has an awful work schedule and the other has been growing increasingly frustrated with the game so having another group to fall back on would be great. I have access to voice chat programs like Skype and Curse which are ideal because the in game voice chat is incredibly difficult to get working.
  6. I honestly don't know what people where holding against this game. Maybe it wasn't quite as good as the original but its still a solid game with interesting character, locations and combat.
  7. Overwatch is basically the sequel to Team Fortress 2 and that never needed a story mode.
  8. D. Va. - Jetpack equipped battlemech for the win. I also like Pharah, Genji, Lucio, Symmetra and Bastion.
  9. Has anybody formed a Brony Overwatch group?
  10. Doesn't MLP take place in a Medieval fantasy setting, at least when the writers are not being lazy? Also, D&D as others have said. I don't know about action figures but WOTC puts out a lot of miniatures.
  11. That's ok, hirelings are supposed to die: http://comic.nodwick.com/?comic=2001-01-01 If you can't keep them alive just play a necromancer, and you can raise any dead hirelings as zombies. They're just as useful and you don't have to pay them.
  12. So Paradox, the makers of Europa Universalis IV and Cities Skylines has thrown their hat into the Space 4X ring with Stellaris, released earlier this month, a game where you start from a single planet a build a galaxy spanning empire. Its great fun, providing excellent mechanics for exploration, technological development and conquest, and fully supports multiplayer to players can compete to become the best galaxy conquering megalomaniac. I highly recommend it. Has anyone else picked up this game?
  13. How about Star Trek Generations. Introduce the two most beloved characters in Star Trek, Kirk and Picard, to the big screen and have them team up together solely to get into a fistfight with an old guy on top of some rocks. Then give Kirk a death that is so bad it makes the deaths in X-Men 3 look good. They could have done so much with the premise of that movie but everything it had going for it was wasted.
  14. Terminator 2 hands down. But an honorable mention goes to Total Recall, for how fun and over the top it is. Jingle All The Way is easily the worst Schwarzenegger movie of all time. Every copy of this abomination needs to burn in the fire of a thousand angry suns. It's that horrible.
  15. Yea Destiny's omission from the PC struck me as somewhat odd as well. But from what I have read about it review wise, the game appears pretty mediocre and you probably aren't really missing anything by having no access to it.
  16. Mustangs are actually V6 standard, the turbo-charged 4 cylinder is just an optional upgrade which I didn't take because I share your concerns. If you want to throw down some serious cash, you can also get a V8 but now you looking at paying at least 10k more than a Corolla.
  17. I just replaced my aging 1997 Chevy Cavalier with a 2016 Ford Mustang. The new Mustang is a really nice car and wasn't much more expensive than a Corolla, and is pony themed to boot! The Cavalier was in such bad shape I couldn't even pay to dealer to take it, I had to donate it to the horribly misspelled Kars 4 Kids, who will apparently take anything.
  18. I enjoy playing a good match of Heroes of the Storm but many of my friends no longer seem to play it. I am looking to form a Brony group to play Heroes of the Storm with using voice chat. For those of you who don't know, Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard's take on the MOBA, and sort of RTS/RPG where players play individual heroes on a team against another group of players using RTS controls and mechanics. It is a lot of fun. Blizzard's version is far more enjoyable and forgiving than the more famous League of Legends and DOTA II, but has sadly remained obscure. Anyone who is interested please post in the comments.
  19. Perhaps one of the worst offenders of all time is Warhammer 40k, not any of the video games but the table top game. Playing it almost requires you to hold back when in comes to army building because of how easily the game is broken and exploited, and you can easily slaughter and opponent without breaking a sweat depending upon army builds. There are entire forums basically dedicated to how broken it can become. I basically got tired of Hearthstone after a while because I wasn't willing to throw real money at virtual cards and I always felt like I was completely outclassed by my opponents cards. If I am going to spend time playing a PvP Blizzard game, I much rather play Heroes of the Storm. Unlock a hero in that game and he is completely functional, no strings attached.
  20. I don't know. How many people actually made it through the Wheel of Time to even answer that question? I am still on Knife of Dreams, I suspect most give up by Winter's Heart.
  21. My longest play session was probably my attempt to beat the SNES version of Jurassic Park back in the day. This was done out of necessity more than anything else, as it is basically an RPG with no save function. My session was ended when I got stuck inside a wall on that stupid boat. I honestly don't think they playtested this thing properly because of how long you have to go in one sitting to beat it.
  22. I don't eat cereal because as a food, it is kind of nasty. Its basically a collection of flavored croutons in milk. Who thought that was a good idea? And you're on the clock when you eat it, because it quickly turns into an unappealing mush. Being lactose intolerant doesn't help matters, I am not purchasing gallons upon gallons of bloody lactaid milk to eat this poor excuse for food. If I am going to spend the time and effort in the morning to prepare breakfast, I am going to make some real food. I can prepare eggs, bacon, toast and orange juice in about 5 minutes and clean in about a minute, and bacon and eggs is a far superior breakfast than cereal. Seriously, screw cereal. To be fair, most research data is behind paywalls. This is just the way most peer-reviewed journals are run.
  23. I couple of recent games that have sadly fallen under the radar. Divinity: Original Sin: This game has what might be the best combat system ever incorporated into an RPG and some really interesting exploration elements. Its probably the closest a video game has ever felt to playing a pen and paper RPG. It is even co-op, it is just a shame it is so obscure because I can't find anyone to play the game with. Heroes of the Storm: Its a MOBA that doesn't waist your time with BS busy work like last hits and actually includes more than one map. Great if you can get some friends together and play against other humans (bots just don't cut it). You would think it would have made a bigger splash seeing as its a Blizzard property, but I rarely see it mentioned. Stardrive 2: A really fun if buggy conquer the galaxy sort of game. Design spaceships, colonize planets, develop technology, sacrifice aliens to dark gods and conquer the galaxy. Its got sort of a miniature scandal surrounding it though. I have actually never played VIII or X before but I found IV kind of bland. Don't get me wrong, it was competently designed with some strong storytelling, good character arcs and a serviceable combat system, but the actual game play is kind of weak. Compare to VI that combined a solid story with excellent game play thanks to a huge range of options in combat, some really interesting and organic mini-games and a strong exploration element and to VII which shared these same elements to a lesser extent. It is better than IX though, I will give it that, but IX had combat that was painful to sit through and an unfocused and bizarre story line that just didn't leave you satisfied upon completion, so its not exactly a high bar. Final Fantasy Tactics is awesome, of course. I agree with Ziggy, I never felt Donkey Kong Country measured up to the likes of Mario 3. I didn't help that I had a Nintendo Power subscription at the time and they hyped it like it was the second coming of Christ. When I finally tried it it was just another platformer and never did anything for me. Absolutely true, but still a blast to play. Combat is better than ever as is crafting, although the dialogue system is terrible. I think problem with Roguelikes is that they are just to easy to make. Why actually craft a world, story and setting when you can just have some algorithm randomly cobble together map after map? While theoretically infinite, I find they all tend to get samey and tedious after a while. I think I rather somebody spend the time and effort to craft an actual setting and game world for me. Sure I will beat the game eventually, but it isn't like there is any shortage of other games on Steam you can pick up for cheap. I will always remember Britannia and all of its individual towns and even some of its citizens from the Ultima series. I do not remember procedurally generated castle #7 from Rogue Legacy or floor 8 from Dungeons of Dredmore.
  24. I have to go with the Micropose classic Master of Magic. Its been over two decades, but this game is still peerless and if you can get past the aging graphics it is still a blast to play.
  25. That wasn't a very good lesson: Can't figure something out, just accept it and give up. Not a good attitude to have when carrying out a scientific investigation. Not that it has anything to do with the topic at had, which is postulating infinite, infinitely large entities with absolutely zero evidence to back it up. In the words of Carl Sagan, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and infinite universes is about as extraordinary as claims get. So somebody better show me something pretty convincing if they want me to believe multiverse theory.
