Some say season 5 and 6 were bad
Aurora Glimmer replied to Lil Pip's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Season 5 is my second-favorite season after Season 2. In fact, it would've been my favorite season if it hadn't been for the shoddy ending of The Cutie Re-Mark (there's a reason my avatar is of evil Starlight Glimmer and not her after she's been reformed). I think that while Season 6 pales in comparison to Season 5, there are also a number of Season 6 episodes which I enjoy and think are legitimately good. -
What will the villain be like this season?

Funny story. A while back I was planning on writing an AU where instead of being a full-grown mare, Starlight Glimmer was a foal prodigy. The way I envisioned it, Filly Starlight would've been a cross between Anthony Fremont from The Twilight Zone and Baby Doll from Batman: The Animated Series. She'd have been an emotionally disturbed filly with godlike powers who terrorized the village she lived in and forced ponies to do her bidding or taste her wrath.

I happen to be a huge fan of Batman: The Killing Joke and I was wondering if someone could edit this gif of Starlight Glimmer so she's holding a camera with her magic, ala. the Joker. Any help would be much appreciated!

Any particular examples you wish to share? This is why I think definitively diagnosing Starlight Glimmer with any sort of personality disorder or psychological illness is difficult, if not impossible. It's also one of the reasons I think Discord's reformation was handled better than Starlight's: sometimes it feels as though post-reformation Starlight and pre-reformation Starlight are entirely different characters, whereas Discord's post-reformation character seems consistent with pre-reformation Discord.

If I were diagnosing Starlight Glimmer based off her behavior in The Cutie Map alone, I'd lean more towards Narcissistic Personality Disorder than Bipolar Disorder. According to the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, individuals with NPD exhibit most or all of the following symptoms: Grandiosity with expectations of superior treatment from others Fixated on fantasies of power, success, intelligence, attractiveness, etc. Self-perception of being unique, superior and associated with high-status people and institutions Needing constant admiration from others Sense of entitlement to special treatment and to obedience from others Exploitative of others to achieve personal gain Unwilling to empathize with others' feelings, wishes, or needs Intensely envious of others and the belief that others are equally envious of them Pompous and arrogant demeanor Starlight also exhibited a number of these symptoms in The Cutie Re-Mark, but I think definitively diagnosing Starlight Glimmer with any sort of psychological illness or personality disorder is a fools errand in light of the substantial differences in personality between pre-reformation and post-reformation Starlight Glimmer.

I imagine Flurry Heart as having her mother's heart, her father's courage and her aunt's brains. Flurry Heart is naturally curious, but unlike her aunt, she has a "hooves on" approach to learning. She cares deeply about other ponies - even ponies she doesn't know - and leaps to their aid the first chance she gets. Flurry is headstrong and stubborn with a tendency to bite off more than she can chew, but her heart is always in the right place.

Was reforming Discord a mistake?
Aurora Glimmer replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'm torn. On the one hand, Discord was an excellent villain and it seemed an odd choice to reform a character as malevolent as Discord was; on the other hand, I think Discord's redemption was handled well (as it took three seasons for Discord to gain the trust of the Mane Six) and I've enjoyed most of the episodes he's starred in. -

I think the show should try exploring/expanding upon Starlight Glimmer's backstory. I think her backstory (or lack thereof) is one of the things that's holding her back as a character and having an episode that explores how Starlight Glimmer became the pony she was would strengthen her as a character.

G.M. Berrow and the Fox Bros returning
Aurora Glimmer replied to FlareGun45's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'm excited that G.M. Berrow is returning, especially in light of her recent chapter books. I think the Fox Brothers can write good episodes, although they certainly have black marks on their record. To be fair, Applejack's Day Off wasn't entirely the Fox Brother's fault. I believe Dusedau was at least partially responsible.- 11 replies

I honestly have no idea. Part of me thinks they're going to end the series with the movie, while another part of me thinks that if the movie is successful, the show will continue in some way, shape or form. This could mean more seasons of FiM or perhaps a spin-off series like Guardians of Harmony. For those saying they want the show to end because the quality of the show isn't what it used to be, I think the quality of the show will improve after the movie, since writers like Meghan McCarthy and Mike Vogel will be able to return to FiM.

Episodes that could have benefited from a re-write.
Aurora Glimmer replied to Azureth's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Off the top of my head, I think both One Bad Apple and The Cutie Re-Mark could've done with a re-write. One Bad Apple had a muddled message and a "protagonist" who was forgiven with a slap on the wrist, despite turning on her own cousin and her friends in a selfish effort to save her own hide. As for The Cutie Re-Mark, I thought Starlight's backstory was terrible and I found the ending extremely disappointing. I'd have preferred it if Starlight had either remained a villain or if they'd handled her redemption more gradually instead of trying to accomplish it through a musical montage. As for her backstory, I'd have left it a mystery or saved it for a future episode instead of trying to cram it into the finale. -
