That's interesting! And hilarious! I don't game as much as I used to. Me and my husband don't really have the time seeing as how I'm a Mortican and he's the Funeral Director! XD But we certainly try to stay as up -to-date as we can. I got Momento Mori from of course, my studies in Death based worship and magic. One of my references tied to my Book of Shadows mentions Momento Mori, so I couldn't resist making a MLP character to don the name! -
What Will Happen To Them?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Earl Grey Ghost's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Yes, I personally do not believe Alicorns immortal, they just live a very long time. We again, already know that Celestia and Luna are over 1,000 years old, so one is to assume that Alicorns can reach a great age. However , I was always curious about how Cadence got her ascension. I am not as up-to-date on the comics as I would like to be. But I digress---on the subject at hoof, I would say that logically it would make sense for Twilight to live much longer. As for FlurryHeart, while I despise the character, I believe she was created to sort of 'shake up' the mythos. If Alicorns can be born, but are very rare, then again they must be imbued with a lot of magical power that, again, lengthens their life. Some are born Alicorns, some have to attain it by great power and deed. I still wonder though. It makes you think.- 20 replies

mega thread Your favourite pony and why?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Twilight Sparkle ✨'s topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
So this is an interesting subject for me. Out of the Mane 6: Rarity Favorite NON-Pony: Spike, seriously, he does NOT get the love and attention and appreciation he deserves Favorite NON-Mane 6 Pony: Princess Celestia, her radiance, her confidence. Coolheaded and regal. Yet, she is the most hilarious little lady with a great, and overall adorably harmless sense of humor. She sweetly trolls. It's great. She's like a big momma. Sunburst (because omg, FINALLY A MALE PONY BESIDES SHINING ARMOR SOMEWHAT IN THE GROUP NOW.) Love/Hate: Rainbow Dash. I adore RD's go-get-'em attitude, and her loyalty, and her voice, and her spunk, energy and drive. But I hate how needlessly cruel she is (example the pets episode. Making them compete for her love, wtf, who does that?!), and the episode where she threw a hissy fit because she had to read (oh Celestia forbid you make yourself smarter!), she totally insulted anyone that loves scholastic pursuits. Then the episode where she has to study for a test to get onto the Wonderbolts, and she obviously gives no darn effort into anything that Twilight tries to help her with. I get that everyone learns differently, but she showed me just how stupidly ungrateful she is, not to mention, actually not that bright. Downright can't stand: Fluttershy and FlurryHeart. My God, can two characters be so needlessly annoying or useless? Fluttershy is beyond meek and shy, she's utterly useless in the long run and the biggest coward I've ever seen. She practically has to be babysat through an entire ordeal until it's 'convenient' for her not to be. Which is usually not when she actually needs to be useful, but when there's literally no other options and she has to be made useful. And when she finally does learn to be assertive, it's 0 to ***** in seconds. There's no in between with her. The way she reacted to those ponies attempting to help her build her animal sanctuary? I'm sorry, I get she was being encroached upon creatively, but there was a nicer and less insulting way to handle that. She was downright rude. I was aghast to be honest. All in all, she blends into the background for me, and obviously she'd rather stay there, so I'm all for that. FlurryHeart, my dear, Lord, okay, I get it, babies are a handful, a stupid, stupid, large handful and a burden. But they honestly couldn't have made a more infuriating and unlikable baby. Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake were a pain, but overall adorable and lovable. But FlurryHeart? The most pain in the tail, destructive little _____, I have ever experienced in a character, let alone a baby character you are supposed to 'coo' over. -
@ShadOBabe , while I do find this highly unlikely, I think it would throw a very interesting wrench in things. There are some laws of 'ponydom' I feel that once established shouldn't be changed otherwise it makes things confusing, BUT, this seems to almost run along a Science vein, and if Science has taught humans anything is that interesting and established theories and 'facts' can be thrown right out the window, and anomalies do happen! So keeping the "Science of Magic" alive Ponyverse wise, I think I'd be open to this little blip! Almost like... a jack of all trades! Doer of many, but Master of none, sort of thing!

Can cutie marks change/evolve?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to My little pwny's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think what Fennekin is trying to say is that a Cutie Mark is an un-changable depiction of what you are truly meant to do, what you are meant to contribute to the world. It is what resonates with your heart and soul. It is the core of who you are, and what you are meant to do. Such as, me for instance, I am a Mortician, it is my calling. My character, Momento Mori, reflects that. His Cutie Mark is a purple flame, wrapped in a black silk ribbon. The Flame represents the flame in Charon's lantern (Charon is the Boatman in Greek Mythology that carries souls across the river Styx), and it's purple because in Victorian times, not only black, but purple was used as a color representative of the dead, as it is used as hangings in the Hearse carriages, with even the horses wearing head-dresses of purple plumage. This for him will not change, like it wouldn't change for me. It's what my heart wants, my soul wants, it's what I'm good at, and I adore my job. BUT---I do have hobbies! I love to read, and draw, (really love to draw, in fact, I drew my avatar, as well as sold a few pieces of my manga style art), and I love Japanese and Egyptian Culture and Mythology, and Dragons, and Roleplaying, and I could go on! But while they define likes and well just hobbies... which though I love---my main core is my chosen career, what I'm good at, what I choose to pursue with my utmost passion in life. It's my heart's calling. And THAT is what a cutie mark is.- 123 replies

From as far as I'm aware, it is canon that no adult pony has the ability to NOT have a cutie mark. By the time you are of a certain age, it is almost theoretically impossible for them not to have found their place. While humans can say that it took them years to find their place in the world or their special talent, that's just not so in the show, as it does need to move along, and each one needs an explanation. (I know, it makes no sense, but hey, kid show logic, am I right?) Most blank flanks on adults you see I do believe are animation errors, which happen, the creators are only human after all! It is also known that cutie marks CANNOT change. Once you have your purpose or special talent, that is what resonates with your heart and soul. And it is unchangable. It's made especially clear in the episodes that explain cutie mark magic, and that it is impossible to hurry one along, or just make one appear. Using this logic, the reverse is true. You cannot change one once you have it. If this was the case, then Tempest Shadows, or even Starlight Glimmers would have changed during their 'villainous' stage, then reverted back upon redemption.

We have all know, that Twilight is now an Alicorn. Yay's all around, she has been made a Princess. It has also been established that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are thousands of years old. Which makes sense that now Twilight has the ability to live longer, and her longevity is thanks to her newfound/given Alicorn powers/magic. So that begs the question: What will happen to her friends? Obviously she will outlive her friends, so what does that mean for the Princes of Friendship? What will happen when the rest of the Mane 5, and holders of the remaining Elements of Harmony, die? She became the Princess of Friendship not only by her own merit (of course) but by the aid of her friends. So as she grows in power as an Alicorn Princess, and outlives the other Element holders, what happens? My theory is that after the other 5 pass away, she will sort of... absorb them. Not their souls per say, but the Embodiment of their Element, so she is able to use all the powers of the Elements herself without the others. Makes sense as she grows more in power and again, outlives the other 5. They are the ones who helped her reach her transformation to Princess-hood, but after their passing will continue to serve her in the form of their spiritual embodiment of the Elements. Which in turn would logically make sense that Twilight Sparkle would reach the zenith of her Princess Alicorn magical powers, and thus be on the same level as Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. At the very least, the level of Princess Cadence. She could continue to serve as the Princess of Friendship and (IMO) Diplomacy, now able to access each Element now stored within her from the souls of her passed-on friends. What do you guys think?

I was asking myself the same question, and then one of the best people on the internet, answered my question for me. I quite agree with him, and he's worth a look. I highly recommend him, his videos and in all honesty, I trust his judgement on reviews. Take a look: Warning: Some adult language

Well then my apologies. And also, thank you for the information. I'm not much of an American Comic Book reader, but now I know a new thing!

Punisher reference? Do you mean... my name? No. It's from a Latin Phrase loosely translated to "Remember that you will die." and is often referenced to objects and symbols associated to or sacred to Death. I'm a Mortician. And @The_Gobo what is wrong with a little flirting? ;3 As for you @Ph0enix, your little pony looks delightful. A hug and smooch for them as well.
-
Oh he looks cute, I suppose I'd give him a hug and a smooch. Then take his hat, winking flirtatiously.

Reasons for this I'd assume: It failed drawing praise from critics because the story was flimsy at best and gave no real exposition on our main villain and why he is supposed to be a threat. Not to mention the feeble explanation of Tempests turn. It did however manage to fool enough children, and unfortunately some adults by dazzling with great animation to mask a half-baked story-line and character set-up. I did go see it, because I was truly excited and yes, I enjoyed myself for entertainment's sake, and I did go with friends to make it more enjoyable, I think watching it again, and by myself, really did highlight how overrated it was. Visually it is stunning. But you aren't fooling me, Hasbro, it's nothing else than that. No sturdy story, no great character backstory/exposition/development, and a celebrity song plug. Marketing. Plain and simple.

spoiler Do you feel sorry for Tempest?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Azureth's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
I do not. Mostly because it was quite an unrealistic backstory. Children do mean and stupid things all the time. While that does not excuse the behavior of her friends for abandoning her, I do not believe that that situation in particular is enough to turn any normal balanced-minded pony into a ranging hate-filled villainous maniac. While taunting and teasing is harmful, where were her parents? Where was other family or friend support? How could she just up and leave her village? It makes no sense. Too many holes, and relies too much on you just shrugging and buying it. -

If the MLP movie was written by bronies
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Plonkett's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
Well, honestly, even though I gave the movie a wobbly 6/10, I think it would be possibly worse with Bronies writing it. Sure the upside would be more adult themes in the fact of political statements, social commentary and more adult like violence and threats, but it would be hard to deal with that it was just choked full of OC's and their self-centered attempts to pair their OC's off with existing characters. So painful it makes me cringe. Action wise, and more mature dialogue, great idea, character-wise, one of the biggest mistakes ever. XD -
Tirek was the better villain, because he was more threatening. The Storm King (as you can see my rant on him in the "What did you think of the MLP movie" thread), we get no exposition on him, as in, we get no backstory. Why is he the bad guy? What choices did he make? Where did he come from? He just appears, makes some stupid jokes that establishes that only, "oh see look how much of a bad guy this bad guy is, he's laughing when he's doing bad things, isn't that awful?!" and you're just supposed to buy that. Well I don't. Even the prequel story/comic gives no backstory, and in the comic (Which is poorly drawn IMO), he even jerkishly teases the readers, "oh did you want to know my back story? TOO BAD!" and just goes on stealing, pillaging, and burning. We get nothing even by personal insult by the character breaking the fourth wall. He breaks it just to insult us. I was extremely disappointed. I am not threatened by Storm King. He's laughable. And barely shows up in the movie at all. It's all Tempest, and even she has a very pathetic little backstory, but again, my grievances with that are in the other thread. Again, IMO, Tirek was much more threatening, and would ultimately crush the Storm King. Because that pathetic little arctic monkey reject would not have the power, nor the bollocks to stand up to Tirek. The next threatening villain to me was King Sombra, and even Sombra would skewer that sad simian.

spoiler What Did You Think About The MLP Movie?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Sketchy Tune's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
See my issues are much bigger than that. The story-line is the big problem. Sure the jokes hit on point, the references cracked me up, but what good is a movie with just that? You might as well not make a movie and just shove that into an episode or two, or a small 45 minute special on TV. I wanted more background on very key characters, believable backstory on them. Instead, we just get "here's this guy, here's this pony, here is why pony is sad, and the guy? He's a bad guy, just hate him cuz he's a bad guy. See him doing bad guy things? That's why you should hate him. Trust us."- 35 replies

Disappointing. Straight up, disappointed. The Shadow Pony could have been amazing. And with as much emphasis they put into these old legendary characters and how powerful this enemy was that even Starswirl and the others couldn't defeat him they just had to seal him, made me think that we were in for a great ride! No. Pacing, pacing PACING ISSUE. This could have easily been a gorgeous story arc that stretched four episodes minimum, or an entire season maximum. So much could have been done with this. Instead it was all so fast, it made my head spin. And the pay-off? I felt like they wasted my time. For as powerful as Starswirl and his group were supposed to be, I expected this enemy to be super powerful, like TIREK LEVEL THREAT OR BIGGER. And what was it? A sad, little wobbly, "I didn't get credit so I'm sad" pony. Wah. We get it, that situation sucks, but come on, you're regressing your storytelling back to baby level! Give us something dangerous, one up yourself on Tirek, give us a villain that is threatening. One that doesn't just need a one on one talk session with the mane 6 for 10 minutes to get over a 'misunderstanding'. This whole thing, makes me so disappointed, because the whole set-up was amazing! They had me on my toes with it! I wanted to know where this went, I was excited! And then----- crushing, eye-rolling, Disappointment.

Your Thoughts on Sunset Shimmer
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Feather Scribbles's topic in Equestria Girls
I don't care for her in the slightest, and as silly as it sounds, I can't quite tell you why. I just feel like she's unnecessary. Also, am I the only one who was super disappointed that they belittled Spike by making him a dog and didn't give us a human version of Spike?! I mean come on! Spike is more than just animal side-kick status. I was so disappointed. -
spoiler What Did You Think About The MLP Movie?
Earl Grey Ghost replied to Sketchy Tune's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
Hm, I have mixed feelings on the movie. While I loved the animation, and just from a fan point of view, it was great to see a full length movie. But for the story? I don't know, I only give it a 6/10. : / We get no real backstory on our main villain, and for him to be our main villain, we know next to nothing about him. No exposition at all. Why should we hate him? Just because he's the bad guy? But why is he the bad guy? Why is he like this? What made him evil in the first place? There is no explanation. And that bothers me. And I'm sorry, Tempest is an interesting design, but as for character-----no. We do learn what happened to her horn, sure, but really? Really? It was just a bear in a cave? And she became this horrid hateful pony just because her friends ran out on her as a filly?! Really?! How sensitive and easy to turn do you unrealistically have to be? I expected a bigger reason for the loss of her horn, her scar, and her hatred. I mean, yeah what her friends did was awful, and while there's no excuse for it, they were also children. Children are stupid and make stupid choices, and I'm quite sure everyone here had something similar happen to them with a friend or a sibling, but that didn't turn you into this absolutely horrid person bound for revenge on everyone. That I would assume, takes years of abuse. Speaking of which, where were her parents?! Are you telling me she just left town with no one gong to look for her? How did she survive? Where did she live, how did she eat? Lastly even if you DO read the 'prequel' story/comic, it still answers none of these things. It gives you I guess... more backstory on Tempest, but again answers none of the above. Oh and the Storm King? He goes off like "I bet you wanna know my back story...TOO BAD!" and then just continues to be an arse, and the story goes on following his 'conquests' and all the kingdoms he's stolen from. I cannot take this villain seriously, we know nothing about him to be threatened other than he just acts like a jerky jackarse, steals things, and grins like an idiot while making dumb jokes bossing everyone around. Oh and SURPRISE he didn't keep his promise to help Tempest. e___e so didn't see that coming a mile away. I get that it was mainly targeted to young audiences, but not only do we need to treat our younger audiences with more respect but this show is obviously aware of it's older fan-base. Why insult us as well by making a barely cohesive story-line, unrealistic character arcs and probably one of the most laughable villains I have ever seen next to the Shadow Pony from the latest season. (Also the song pony with the hair in her eyes, and that...what Sia-whoever whom I didn't even know was a real person she was based off was un-needed and just a celebrity plug.) So all in all, visually, yes 8/10, very nice. But for the rest? A wobbly 6/10.- 35 replies

I'm completely new, so if you've got some advice for me, I'd be open to hear it! Especially with roleplaying a pony since I'm more used to doing human/human-esque (elf, Incubi etc) type of characters. But as for now, welcome back!

Earl Grey Ghost replied to Earl Grey Ghost's topic in Welcome Plaza
So far I'm having a fun time. There are many options, in fact it's hard for me to find out where to start. I know I would love to get back into the RolePlaying community but I'm very used to doing human characters, so I would love to find someone who's a lot more seasoned doing MLP roleplaying. So whoever is willing to show me the ropes, it would be greatly appreciated! -
