  1. Sounds like a nice discussion, so I'll jump in. It's a mixed bag for me. One who I tend to feel more negatively about than positive. I'm all for expanding characters from canon, specially those with little to no exposition within the official content. I gained this idea after seeing so many interesting characters in cartoons only get one appearance in a show, and/or never being brought up again at all, despite them having a lot of potential. Also the idea of more stories being told with different characters within the same universe, much in the same vein of the Star Wars expanded universe, has been another influence for this opinion of mine. My gripe with this is how exaggerated this whole background pony thing has gotten. Hey, I'm super happy people have given a lot of this characters personalities and what not. But it has gotten to the point where people consider a lot of this as actual fact, and even overshadow characters that have done more in the show and really deserve recognition and build up of their own. I'll just give an exmaple of what I just mentioned, DJ Pon3, who has done absolubtley nothing has far more recognition amongst this fandom, than let's say, Spitfire or Soarin, who could use just about as much or more character build up as they actually contribute to the canon and come from what seems to be a group or organization that contributes to their world. I'd rather have the Wonderbolts expanded about within the fandom, than DJ Pon3's gigs at club nights or personal life. And thing is, we see more fan content of DJ Pon3 than the Wonderbolts. And also, we see the background ponies almost everywhere now. Be it Hot Topic or sometimes even in some random Hasbro packaging or merch ad (not refering to TV). I see more of Lyra or Octavia than Big Mac or Shining Armor. Which is sad. Because it's like this middle line of characters is being ignored when you look at the grand scale of things. Doctor Whooves is the only one I really like. Simply because the thought of a pony based on Dr. Who is just fun and the story potential is infinite. I personally have really enjoyed the character of Dr. Paradox in the Ben 10 series, a character inspired by the Doctor. So I can only imagine MLP having it's own take with Whooves. I'm not a massive fan, but will respond to this regardless. This is a smaller gripe I have in relation to BG ponies. How ridiculous the reactions and opinions of their fans can be if the characters where to ever be portrayed within offcial canon. People shouldn't be so clingy to the ideas and random facts made for them around the internet, because in the end, that might not be how the show runners may feel or see for the characters. Enjoy the interpretations, but don't act like they're fact.
  2. The episode made it seem like he never had any real relationships before. Really got a "forever alone" vibe from him. Which kind is what makes the episode realistic in the form of his reformation.
  3. Which is rather pointless, atleast the way I see it. One thing I'm almost certain is at the least Twilight will probly be really humble about the new powers or decline them on the spot/after some experience. But other than that, I still see it as pointless to have this happen.
  4. What annoys me is that there is no reason to turn her into an alicorn. She is fine the way she is, relying on her natural born abilities. Overcoming her limits and becoming better with her own resources. All as just a really magically talented unicorn. All that is why I find her such a great protagonist. Yes, super talented. But she works with what she's got, even if it sometimes fails her. No need to turn her into a form that's almost regarded as a deity.
  5. One thing is developing and changing character through genuine situations and challenges. Not by unnecessarily giving her the great magical powers of a pseudo deity. Why give her such a thing while her character progression so far has been phenomenal by it just being simple and to an extent realistic? Twilight has been growing with her natural talents and instincts, and I can keep seeing her getting even farther as a great individual this way.
  6. I personally despise the idea of Twlight becoming an alicorn. What's really the point of it? What will it add to make her a better character? Nothing. She is fine as is. An exceptionally magical young unicorn with great qualities and amusing flaws. I same ask of, what's the point of her becoming princess at all? It feels more like Hasbro is trying to shove this princess crap down our throats. That's a really bad and stupid message to send to little girls. That only by being a Princess is one really special and reaching the top achievement of life. BUT. Just like Hasbro wanted to shove in a pink pony princess and the show staff did a phenomenal job with it, I feel this whole Twilight becoming a princess and/or "alicorn" can be salvaged. For some reason I feel she will modestly decline the offer, be it at the moment it is given to her, or after she comes to a realization. In the end, whatever the case we gotta relax and remember why we really love this show and it's characters. Let's not have this one thing that we may highly dislike about it ruin what we love about it. I really want to blow a fuse, but nothing will be achieved by that. >.<
  7. Frankly I'd like to see Alicorns introduced/explained as a race. As a race of pony that's similar to the LOTR elves. Holy crap. Holy crap. Holy crap. Where did I miss this? Anyway she doesnt seem evil or a stallion. goddamit. And we will discuss what ever we want That's just a pointless background mistake/joke. It's nothing to take seriously.
  8. The whole "daughter" is one of the many fanon things that has simply been blown out of proportion. Like most of those fanon things, I'd rather the writers stay away from the idea.
  9. Well, good shows that decided to cut it off before getting any worse...there's Kim Possible with 87 episodes. The only ones that really go over 100 are those that have been beaten to death. Phineas & Ferb with 178 (how the hell in a 4 or so year time span?), Spongebob with 204, Fairly Odd Parents with 126 and Johnny Test with 117.
  10. I have a few..with 3 more on the way. Discord, Celestia, S2 Luna and Thunderlane (Chrysalis and Filly Pinkie Pie on the way) made by Rens-Twins. Two Lunar Bat Guards with Chariot made by Agatrix. S1 Luna made by usako-chan. Braeburn made by Wolflessnight. And Big Mac (and Soarin' on the way) made by Makeshiftwings30. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/Reverse/apples_zps75d99cfa.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/Reverse/discord-1_zps57f7561b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/Reverse/lol_zpsba877c8e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/Reverse/luna_zps052f7372.jpg
  11. I'm a fan of the original three games. They where fun and simple. Highly enjoyable and storytelling that didn't take itself so seriously, but didn't belittle itself either. The first three had a colorful and fun cast of characters and they all added something to the story, however miniscule. Spyro himself was actually fairly characterized. He was just a kid who wanted to have fun. He had no real interest in saving the world because it was the right thing to do. He just wanted to kick butt because he enjoyed it. Which brings me to my main gripe with the Legends series. Spyro himself. I tried playing Legend, but I just couldn't stand the story nor Spyro's characterization. The colorful fun loving atmostphere from the original three was replaced with something that was trying to hard to be serioues. Spyro's story itself was pretty cliched, chosen goody goody hero raised by a forster family that one days stumbles across this destiny he is meant to fulfuill or some junk. I prefer the kid who does things because he wants to have fun and not because it's the right thing to do over this anyday. As to Skylanders. I freaking love it. Gameplay-wise, it's closer to the original Spyro games than Legend will ever be. The cast of characters is a colorful and fun as the original Spyro game characters. Yes, the Spyro in this continuity is more of a mix of the Legend and Original incarnations, but the facts that make the Legend version so dull to me are more toned down in this version. The only thing stopping Skylanders from being the perfect game for me is the fact that other Original Spyro characters haven't been considered as characters. Seriously, Agent 9, St. Brd, Hunter ect. would make for some awesome Skylanders.
  12. On Blueblood... http://comments.deviantart.com/4/1603670/1932962564 On Cadance. Might be something similar to Blueblood. But with her atleast we know there is some real importance as she seems to be connected to the Crystal Empire.
  13. Overrated, pretty much all background ponies. Most have not had any real speaking roles nor contributed anything to through the course of events in the show. Underrated? Possibly secondary one shot characters like Braeburn. Who have atleast actually done something.
  14. No where is it said that Discord was sealed before Starswirl's era. Starswirl was mentor to Clover the Clever, one of Equestria's founders. Discord reigned over Equestria up until Celestia and Luna sealed him away.
  15. The term your looking for is mesoamerican. And no. Nothing in what we've seen so far implies those ruins are home to the changelings.
  16. At first I didn't think it was Luna. Just some random background filler made by the show animators for the hell of it that could be credited as Scootaloo's imagination playing around. But then it turned out not so. I like the fact that Luna can get involve in other's dreams. Why? Well, the ability is a double edged sword that can be used for good and evil. And Luna has threaded both paths. Probly the reason she was called Nightmare Moon has a connection to this ability, and her possibly misusing it at one point. And considering she's now a character that wants to be accepted, redeemed basically, using this ability like she did in today's episode can be considered a tool to prove herself.
  17. Being a good leader doesn't mean you have to always do fighting and confrontation. A leader is simply a member of a team. The team member who plans things out and calls the shots, because they have the nack for that type of thing. Be it because of experience or because it just comes natural to them. Celestia is over a millenium old, she has experience not that many beings have. While she'll screw up sometimes, like everybody does, the role she takes in the show is fine.
  18. Well, it's been speculated they might have a foal at some point in the series. Most likely this season. Why? Because of this...
  19. Luna becoming Nightmare Moon due to practicing and delving into dark magic makes much more sense that her transformation happening thanks to the Amulet. Luna was overtaken by a dark force. And the Amulet's effects only last while one is wearing it.
  20. The first five S2 episodes. The first four from that season alone are some of my favourite episodes of the series. Discord, crazy Twilight and Luna > anything we've seen so far in S3 IMO.
  21. As been mentioned. Rarity possibly being/getting involved with Fancy Pants is the closest the show should get to this. And if it does turn out actually happening, I don't feel it'd change the dynamics of the show really.
  22. I'd reboot this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TdqpWiBliw Great action show with a lot of untapped potential due to it getting killed of before it's time. There where even some episode written that where never animated due to the canceling.
  23. Background Pony doesn't mean the same as secondary, one shot or minor character. Background ponies are the likes of Lyra, DJ Pon3, Derpy and Dr. Whooves. My favourite background pony it the Doctor. The amount of potential for this characters is infinite, and oddly enough the premise of a time traveling pony from an ancient civilization fits for the show. As to minor character. Shining Armor. I really loved his relationship with Twilight and love the idea of exploring how he went up the ranks ot the Royal Guard.
  24. Cons: -Human in a world full of talking, magical animals. Predomenantely equines. So things are bound to be ackward. Not only in the difference in sentient species, but culture and way of life. Pros: -I'd now live in a world of endless wonder. The potential for adventure could possibly outweight the ackwardness eventually.
  25. No. Why? Because this doesn't mean anything to the overall development of events happening in Equestria. I love Derpy, and specially the Doctor. But I frankly do not care who the Doctor is seen with. This fandom needs to stop taking all this background filler so seriously. I'm all for the fans exploring different ideas and interpretations for this possible minor events and their characters. But taking it to the extent that people actually treat it as fact and having any little "change" done to this now pre-conceived "facts" as people (canon or fanon) possibly ruining their little ideas is ridiculous.
