technology Lubuntu 13.10 forced Windows 7 into safety only. Help
Puddlejumper replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in Media Discussion
Did you try running boot-repair from a live usb/cd? I don't think it should be anything to do with Windows itself. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair -
gaming The Problem with the Pokémon GTS
Puddlejumper replied to Moonlight Magician's topic in Media Discussion
Yea, I pretty much gave up on the GTS. I have Y and need the X exclusives, but the dumb stuff people want for them I gave up. I managed to get lucky on Houndour by finding someone who wanted a Haunter, but beyond that everything has been stupid. The filtering system also needs tweaked some more IMO. -
technology Lubuntu 13.10 forced Windows 7 into safety only. Help
Puddlejumper replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in Media Discussion
Didn't even think of that, it could be a GRUB problem, especially if you didn't get a prompt. A quick boot-repair run will take care of that, if not then at least any GRUB issues would be out of the question. -

Don't think I've seen so many self-quotes in one post before. I'm having a huge off-day as well this morning though, so I get it. Try rebuildbcd when you get home later and report back. That should do it though hopefully since all your data is still there. -
technology Lubuntu 13.10 forced Windows 7 into safety only. Help
Puddlejumper replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in Media Discussion
It shouldn't have done anything to the MBR in my experience. I know you already mentioned running MWB and Avast, but how did you run Avast? From within Windows or by doing a boot-time scan? Also, did you happen to try repairing Windows from the install disc? If you have it of course. Your commands also are wrong. It should be bootrec, not just boot (bootrec /fixboot). Also bootrec /rebuildBcd. Maybe just typos. Just basic questions I know, but I always like to start there. -
gaming The Scariest Game You've Ever Played
Puddlejumper replied to Moog the Kvlt's topic in Media Discussion
I've not played a "scary" game for a long time, so I'll have to say the original Silent Hill. I remember playing that thing all time and thought that it just got creepier and creepier as you went on. Starting off in the thick fog with what I liked to call "skinned dogs" hunting you, to the creepy frikkin school building, and then nightmare world and it's rusty grate streets and demonic gorillas replacing the dogs... yea, fond memories. Was really hoping an HD remake would get done of it like the original Resident Evil. Update the graphics, but don't go changing the game or enemies or anything. -
I think they both look good, even Sunbutt. Love the idea with the medicine pouches, nice medieval tweak to the saddle bags in the show. Made me think that someone needs to start making neoprene tablet sleeves, the kind with the fold over closure, that look like those. I'd buy a Trixie or AJ one without giving it a second thought.

The timing on so many parts is just crazy. Loved that he even pointed right as she sang "you". -

gaming What is your best moment in gaming?

First thing that popped into mind since I'm replaying this again currently. I'm sure I've thoroughly lmao at many different things through the years though. -
Will Hasbro Ever Give Their Toys Show-Accurate Faces?
Puddlejumper replied to Castle Bleck's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Well, they did change the faces recently. They don't look anymore show accurate though, actually I like them less, but show accurate is not what they are going for here. These are straight up toys, not collectors items. The Funko stuff is the collectors stuff right now, whether we'll ever see something more like the limited edition Transformers stuff, Star Wars stuff, Play Arts Kai figures, or whatever else is unlikely IMO. They sure have not tried to make the plushies any nicer, even though custom ones can go for $400 or more. As for boys toys being more detailed than girls toys, I call false. I have prime examples of this sitting right in front of me. My older transformers toys are much better looking than the current ones, and they didn't have big holes in the sides of their legs and stuff to cut back on material use. No, my G2 Megatron and Beast Wars dragon Megatron have nice solid looking legs and arms instead of the hollowed out, big gaping holes in the legs of my current gen Shockwave. And don't get me started on my G1 Hound or Optimus, they have metal body parts! It's all about making money from the target audiences. That means cheaply made toys to be played with, and that requires the brushable hair and stuff as well. They tried solid manes, and they failed. I have the solid mane AJ and Twi sitting right here, very cool IMO, but not what the target audience wanted. And now that there is a fan base that wants them, Hasbro instead has decided to let Funko handle it. I don't find the heads that bad. I mean when you think about it, if they made them exactly like in the show you'd have these weird teardrop shaped heads with giant anime style eyes on the very front because of them being bowling ball round with a muzzle. They could put more effort into making the wings better and fill out the hair some more, especially on the more older fan oriented stuff like NMM or Chrysalis. I'm just glad to see Fluttershy finally got her own mold in the blind bags. Now if only they would start shipping AJ with an accurate western hat since it's an integral part of her character... -
Meh, I was going with the "it's newer and faster than the 40yr old truck I said for AJ" aka their friendly rivalry they have. And it's cooler looking than those that you mentioned IMO. The Syclone wouldn't even be a consideration in my suggestions because it's a small truck, plus it's GM. That Dodge, well it's not that impressive of numbers compared to the 401, and the 401 didn't have the cop package stuff on it in the trucks like that Dodge. From what I gather a Raptor has a 0-60 time of 7 seconds, good enough for me and it's under 10 seconds so Dash should be happy. The Raptor is meant to be an off-road truck king, not high performance. It's also touted as having bold in-your-face styling. That all screams egotistical Rainbow "ego stroking" Dash to me. It's basically just Ford's Wrangler. That is my list of my opinion on what vehicles, and I'm sticking with it. I could easily criticize you sticking Dash in a '90 Caravan of all things, but I couldn't care less what other's opinions are enough to tear into them for said opinions on something that's not even a debate style topic. If my main point was that Dash should have been in something fast, I would have placed her in a Hennessey Venom Gt, or an HSV Maloo R8.

AJ: '77 Jeep J-20 401 4x4 (The ultimate farm truck IMO, but I'm biased. Also good for hunting Graboids, I mean Tatzlwurms) Rarity: '64 Mercedes-Benz 600 Limo (Let's face it, her car would have to be classy AND she would be getting driven around rather than doing so herself) Twilight: Tesla S Fluttershy: VW E-Bugster is my top choice, but since it has remained just a concept I will go with the VW Jetta Hybrid. Rainbow: Ford F-150 Raptor to "1up" AJ but still be able to go fast. Pinkie: A party bus

Nah, not goddesses. Just very powerful beings. They all (alicorns) either evolved from unicorns after performing some special feat, or Celestia and Luna are the originals that actually do have a purpose with the whole raising of the sun/moon thing. Though I've always wondered about that. I mean, did they perform those tasks when Discord ruled over the land? There is just too much darkness hiding the unknown about their past.

5'4" I was born before all these growth hormones were used in our food supplies. No one in my family is very tall though, and I used allergy meds when little that were later found to possibly stunt growth. Oh well, only thing I've found that it complicates is finding a girlfriend. pfft. Like that's important...

heh I found my old RollerCoaster Tycoon and expansion Corkscrew Follies like two days ago. Didn't bother trying to install it since I have 3 on steam, which I then proceeded to play, and find out it doesn't like my machine and likes to crash hard after an hour or so of playing. I plan on building me a Windows 98 or XP machine out of one of the husks I have sitting around eventually, just so I can play old games like Starfleet Command and stuff that hates Win7.

mega thread Why you chose your user name.
Puddlejumper replied to Klopp's topic in General Discussion
I originally was just using a name I used on WoW for years, then the same day I joined I switched to using my OC's name. My most recent username? Well... if I gotta explain that then I suppose I must be talking to Humdrum. I couldn't believe it wasn't taken, grabbed it the following Monday after "Power Ponies" aired. -
mega thread MLP:FiM Gameloft App, Friends, and Info
Puddlejumper replied to Lost Profile's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Yes, if you "transfer purchases" before you wipe the device. Although I honestly can't say if doing that backs up this apps save file. I never bothered to find out before I sold my 4s. I'm pretty sure it does though from stuff I've read. You might find this interesting, it explains why the save can be transferred on iOS but not Android. http://www.evenprime.at/2013/03/gameloft-my-little-pony-savegame-file-format/ Something recommended here, I've tried just copying the folder/files and it just starts a new game. So that info is obviously incorrect, unless I somehow screwed up copy/pasting. -

mega thread MLP:FiM Gameloft App, Friends, and Info
Puddlejumper replied to Lost Profile's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Well I've restored this game plenty of times by letting the Play store do it's thing after resetting a device, and every time I've had to restart with a fresh town. The way Gameloft has this game save is stupid, it doesn't save to the cloud. Instead from what I've gathered, it just saves to the device and you normally need root to use something like Titanium Backup to perform a complete enough backup to include the save and make it so it'll work on other devices. Otherwise all that gets restored is the game itself, which is how the "backup" to the Play store works. It's gotta be the worse thing about Gameloft's business model with this game, and several others of theirs. I got this idea from Gameloft's forums actually. A mod there told someone to use Helium to backup one of their other games that doesn't store the save in the cloud, so I figured why not give it a try with MLP. I actually ended up buying the premium version, and going in circles trying different backup methods to get a restore that said complete instead of error. I finally gave up and that's when I discovered it actually worked even after saying error. Really wish I had discovered this a long time ago, had a mostly complete town pre-canterlot on my Nexus 7 2012. Oh well I guess, but my many losses are a gain for everyone else with this discovery. Would be nice if Gameloft would just make their games store the save in the cloud and allow it to be played on multiple devices. -
I'm kind of on the fence. It looks interesting, but I think I'm getting burnt out on MMOs. Part of it might be that I run solo, but meh. I log into GW2 anymore, quest/run around for 10 minutes, and then log off. Have not started up TERA or any of the others in ages. And I quit playing in the Elder Scrolls beta after the first one, even uninstalled the game. I'll probably play it eventually to test it out since it's one of the only games I've never gotten a beta for, but who knows if I'll stick with it.

What is this talk of demons? I've never seen any demons in the show. Sombra was a unicorn that became corrupt with dark magic or whatever. His smoke form was from his banishment conditions just like NMM was sealed away inside the moon. Luna became NMM because her jealousy stewed inside her and eventually overwhelmed her other emotions and thoughts. She basically just snapped, not possession. If anything, the Worst. Possible. Thing. would be letting negative emotions/thoughts take center stage in your mind. It always seems to cause corruption or evil doing. Look at the Discorded ponies as another example of negativity corrupting.

Do You Touch Type or Hunt and Peck?
Puddlejumper replied to camsterman101's topic in General Discussion
I watch now and then, but I am getting much much better at not needing to. Mostly I just look when I start, or if I need special characters like : or ^ or if I'm copying something someone wrote down/printed out. I find it easier to hold with one hand the subject matter so I can see it better and type pecking style. I learned how to type from playing WoW for years, and usually playing the roles that meant you couldn't really look away. Had to reply to those PMs mid-raid somehow.- 111 replies

gaming Your favorite Final Fantasy game/series?
Puddlejumper replied to BreakingJesse's topic in Media Discussion
I've only ever played X and XIII, and I've yet to finish XIII. But it's pretty fun, not enough data to pick a favorite, plus it's been years since I played X. I'm not usually drawn towards this style of game but something about these two grabbed me enough to play as a time killer. I think my experiences watching friends play the older ones turned me off until the play style changed some. I'm really debating getting a PS Vita and X/X-2, or I might just buy it on the PS3, who knows. I think having it portable would be awesome, unless a lot of stuff is missing to fit it on the Vita.
