Ladies and gentleman, MR. BRUCE DICKINSON!

Best wishes to Mr. Dickinson for a speedy recovery. Maybe Mr. Iommi can give him some pointers.

Anyways, you all like thrash. I all like thrash. Let's listen to some modern thrash!

The main project of former Exodus frontman, Rob Dukes.

And believe this or not, right now they're actually collaborating on an album with virtuoso axeman, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, from Guns n' Roses and Darryl McDaniels. You know? From Run DMC?

Devin Townsend is awesome. Saw him open for Gojira two years back, and it was phenomenal.

Here's another band I recently discovered. This band has some awesome music, and some amazing lyrics, reminiscent at times to another of my favorite bands, Tool.

I can definitely hear the Tool influences. Pretty good stuff! Have you heard Soen? They've got that Tool sound too.

KINDA SURPRISED NO ONE'S MENTIONED THIS.

Something's wrong with that image attachment.  It won't open.

Lately I've been getting really into this album, particularly "Flying Whales."  It's a nice, groove-intensive, meandering kind of album.

@@PlunderSteed,

From Mars to Sirius is one of the most amazing albums I've ever listened to. This one in particular is probably one of the heaviest songs I know. It's hard to even pick a favorite song from this album.

On that same note, I also have this band which blew my mind repeatedly.

A southern metal band that I really like.

Back in 2006 I picked up their album of all covers.  They covered a nice spread of metal and alternative rock.  I was particularly surprised with their cover of Depeche Mode's "Little 15", and his voice lent especially well to the mopey new wave vibe.

Yes, those double-picked chords in "Backbone" are gnarly as fuck.  I haven't listened to Karnivool much before, but I'm checking them out now.  They seem like a cross between Tool and Radiohead, which is all kinds of badass.

I'm starting to get into Periphery. Lot of talk that they're part of the next wave of metal bands to dominate the current scene with Bring the Horizon, Of Mice & Men, We Came as Romans, and a few others. So I'm investigating those guys cause the radio waves aren't doing it for me.

I'm liking this song in particular, a fresh take on progressive metal.

BTW, does anypony else on here have a subscription for Metal Hammer Magazine?

It's pretty much the only way I'm hearing about any of these guys, plus they come with very well written articles, album reviews, a death/grindcore/doom/stoner/black metal section, in depth artist interviews and free merch like CDs & posters. They absolutely beat out other metal magazines like Revolver & Guitar world.
