movies/tv Toy Story 4 officially confirmed

Oh come on... They had such a perfect bitter-sweet ending in Toy Story 3, it didn't need a sequel.

Exactly, I thought that was the best way to end the series. I would prefer the studio invested their time and efforts into new stories.

Ummm... I love the Toy Story trilogy as much as the next guy, but this? This shows that Pixar can't be bothered with new ideas and focus on sequels. It's a shame too because their ideas are creative and fun.

Not only that, but it would make a lot of sense if Toy Story ended off on a third sequel. Seeing a fourth sequel to Toy Story, Cars 3, Finding Nemo 2 and The Incredibles 2 show they have no more motivation to think of something imaginative.

Also, John Lassenter says this movie is not a cash grab, who I presume is also working for Cars 3, Finding Nemo 2 and The Incredibles 2. I also recall him working for Cars 2, which is notorious for being a cash grab too. I would be rather suspicious with what he says...

The series ended with Toy Story 3 i thought that concluded the trilogy. Toy Story 3 doesn't need a sequel as it might ruin it, Disney could make a spin off movie to the original three.

It would be better if they came up with a new series.

The third film was a masterpiece of animation and storytelling, and as this series progressed they have tackled some powerful themes. While I personally thought it was a beautiful send off, I recognize that not every hero's journey has to be a perfect Trilogy wrapped in a nice little bow. I trust Lasseter will give fans of the series a worthy entry.

You have two in the pipe that are new IP.

Even I admit this is pretty pointless, I mean the animated shorts were a fine way to continue the franchise but another sequel, what's the story gonna be anyway, "Andy goes drinking and driving and the toys have to save him"?

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

Andy's story is concluded. This will likely feature the toys with the new kid.

Where can they take it? Apparently Lasseter had a crazy idea that made them push for wanting to do this. There are more than three tales that can work with the concepts found in Toy Story.

Maybe it's a prequel of sorts ... and Woody and Andy's father :wau:

I had a good idea if there was a 4th movie. Bonnie finds out the toys talk, grows up knowing this, she's a teenager who still plays with her toys and this causes her to be the weird kid. It ends with her leaving the toys behind?

Stop it
Stop it
They're killing it

Don't make Toy Story another Shrek. I've got too many good memories of Toy Story.

Let a series die when it's meant to die, when it already has a perfect ending. come onnnn

Its one of those things that it is either going to shock everyone and be really really good or it will completely suck, I don't see any in between. They do seem to spend a decent amount of time in between the them.

Ugh, seriously? Just let it die already

This on so many levels. I think it should also die. I mean, where the hell are they going to take it? Are they going to continue with the girl now? What they should have done was let Andy keep the toys at the end or having kids of his own and giving his old toys for them to play with. That would have been the right and also normal way to do it.

To be honest, I only liked the first one. I never even got into the rest of them. The original Toy Story leaves so many nostalgic memories for me. Disney is all about overdoing things and ruining them. It's just like Star Wars. As much as I love this series, it should have died where it was. Disney shouldn't have taken it over and rebooted the series by adding more. What the hell is up with that? The actors are all too old for new movies... so why?

Ok, Toy Story 3 had a perfect ending. I honestly don't see where the story could go from here. This kind of seems like a desperate cash grab and proof that Pixar is running out of ideas when they've only got 2 upcoming movies planned. The rest are sequels.

I'm going to have to go with that majority opinion that this should have ended as a trilogy and that shorts and specials were the most logical route to continue this series. The series was very self-contained and flowed naturally all the way to the end. Making a fourth feature does an about-face on this, and considering that Pixar's spotless record is now officially dead as opposed to the time TS3 came out, makes it seem all the more risky to the franchise's reputation.

My immediate reaction this morning when I saw this was  >_>  :okiedokielokie:  really quite annoyed. I don't think there's any need for another film, the 3rd was a perfectly crafted ending, and the trilogy itself played out perfectly thematically: moving from Andy being a young kid to on the verge of being a teen beginning to grow out of his toys, until he eventually does as a young adult going off to college. We don't need to see Bonnie and the Toys going through the same journey we've already seen them on. Sure, they could have the new film have absolutely nothing to do with growing up/child's journey and just have the toys in some wacky hi-jinx instead, but that's a definite level below what the other films have been operating at. You'd be taking something that's not only been entertaining, but thought provoking and beautifully crafted and just turning it into mindless garbage, regardless of whether it ends up entertaining or not.

Just the sheer amount of sequels that Pixar are peddling out now is ridiculous, people used to laugh at Daddy Disney for their cash grab straight to video sequels, but Pixar is just becoming more and more like their parent. Who knows, this is possibly a Disney decision forced upon Pixar, but I don't really see that being the case. Are we going to get a sequel to Up called Down? In which a young boy ties a bunch of rocks to a house to sink it under the sea and they travel to an underwater kingdom thought long forgotten.

I still think it's pointless, if the plot is just "toys get lost and have to find their way home" again then things are gonna get pretty formulaic.

Well, they haven't made a bad movie yet in the series yet. It's existence doesn't eliminate what came before anymore than the dozens of Wizard of Oz books that the general public has no idea even exists impact the love people have for the original tale and its adaptation.  Also, all stories are formulaic. It's been 20 years since I have read or seen something I considered genuinely original, and that was only based on what I had seen before. The way I look at it is this. I've ridden the roller coaster before ... but I still like the ride.

Alright you enjoy the hype, but I'm going to continue thinking this is just a cash grab.

I don't get hyped for a movie like this. Rather I go in and neutrally expect a final product that is in line with what has come before. I'm a Star Wars fan, I know how to temper my anxiety and my hype.  Like any consumer, I want something enjoyable so I hope for success. I guess that is the reasonably optimistic side of me speaking though.

I don't know how I feel about this. I think the third movie was a great ending. I think the shorts they've released are good. Maybe this could be good we'll have to wait.
