Any autistic bronies here in MLP Forums?

*Raises hoof* I have Asperger's, not for very long though. It, for the most part, isn't too bad, but it does make being personable and making friends a bit... Tricky

Hell yes! I'm 100% autistic and I don't even care! Just because I have some mental disorder doesn't mean that I can't have a normal life! B) (and it's nice to see some awareness in here! :D)

That's awesome! Exactly! (Indeed it is! :D)

I beg to differ. My form of autism is considered a disability. People with more severe forms are considered as being disabled because there are things they can't do the same as others. I have trouble with most daily living skills and functioning in a normal setting.

Anyway, I don't consider myself a brony, but I do have autism. Also, HFA and AS are two different things. The difference is that HFA means that you had language delays as a child. I did, and I have HFA myself. However, if you had no language delays at all as a child, you have AS.

I suppose I have HFA then. Some people might have mistaken-ed me with having Aspergers. HFA is the closest match for me.

That's why I've been to groups and sessions where there are specialists who help people like us with Autism, Aspergers, etc., with the basics of how to socialize (properly) and things like that. It sure helped me A LOT! I really recommend that you attend a session like that. It helped me, it should definitely help you too. :) Edited by Jonny Music

Not to be pedantic, but while it's a neurological disorder, it's not psychological(although it can have a psychological impact on you). What it means is that you may have difficulties with certain things but that doesn't make you crazy. While it may seem like splitting hairs because both neurological and mental disorders have to do with the brain in some way, there is a big difference.

Anyways, I have aspergers, and I wasn't without my challenges growing up, but I had good support from teachers and now that I'm older and in post-secondary it's mostly a non-issue. Everyone at post-secondary takes notes with computers, so I'm not the special exception. Also, I'm using my own computer, not one loaned to me by the school. I'm non-athletic, but I do have a fondness for videogames, though mostly of the singleplayer variety. Perhaps there is a part of me that's fairly Fluttershy-esque that is preventing me from finding my very special somepony, but I figure that's something I won't rush into. I'm sure it will happen at some point.

I suppose I have FHA then. Some people might have mistaken-ed me with having Aspergers. HFA is the closest match for me.

No problem. ^^ Aside from the language delay difference, HFA and AS are extremely similiar. I have only just learned myself about the language delay issue with HFA, that AS doesn't have. That's the only thing that sets them apart from each other. So, i too fit better with HFA. However, my mental health records state I have 'Autistic Disorder'. Its quite confusing, but I assume no one realizes all of my struggles though either.

I can't get re-assessed, as I told Odessey because of my disability income. I can't get officially diagnosed with any other condition because of the very same reason. I also have a low IQ as well. I once had an ex-therapist agree with me about having an intellectual disability though. It's funny because I'm very childish and have NO idea what it's like being an adult. I don't have a job because both my disabilities (HFA, ADHD and severe anxiety due to the HFA) hinder my capabilities of holding down a job or being able to live on my own. I still live with my parents, and I rely on most of their support for several daily living skills. These skills include cooking and cleaning for me. I've learned a few things such as doing my own laundry not long ago.

Most of the brony community (from what I see) has aspergers/autism. I am not one of those people. I am an introvert, but I'm not autistic.

That's fine. It's not like the brony fandom is exclusive to autistic people. It's accessible to everyone, no matter if you have any type(s) of disorders or disabilities or none of them at all. :)

I have Asperger's Syndrome myself, which is a high functioning autism so it counts I guess. While those that know me on MLP Forums may not see it, I have a hard time explaining and expressing myself in real life, as well as lack of confidence. I am not good at making and keeping friends.

Those last points I feel is why my main character Mythos Gray has the personality and behaviors he does, having the confidence I lack as well as greater skill socializing with others... and better luck with the fairer sex. Though he also has his flaws, and takes fair more risks then I ever could, and can be more manipulative then I would be in real life.

Mildly autistic.

I'm one of those people who you wouldn't know it unless I actually told you.

And also I've never told any of my friends I have it.

I'm afraid something would leak out and I'd get treated like an outsider in my Junior class.

You don't have to be afraid to tell anyone you have it. It actually did help me in the long run if I mention that I have Autism. Never hesitate to anyone that you have it. If they ask what it is, just simply tell them (either that) it's a learning disorder or a learning disability, not a disease!

I have Asperger's Syndrome. It's been pretty tough to socialize with some other people when I was younger, even to this day. I think I was diagnosed at around 4 or 5, and over the years I've been doing quite well with trying to keep it under control and coping with it.

At a scifi con one time, somebody told me they thought Einstein had some form of autism.  He didn't talk until he was 4 & had some other symptoms I don't recall (Social problems, an illegitimate child who went insane, a few other things + near orchestra quality violin player, might have turned pro if he practiced more)  You can hear all kinds of weird stuff at cons (case in point, here).  I just thought I'd pass it on for what it's worth (I don't actually have a life to interfere w being on the internet)

It's a concern to me that I cannot find any Bronies like myself out there who has a learning disability like I do. For instance, I have High-Functional Autism (HFA for short), a.k.a. Aspergers Syndrome.

There has been some talk on the internet that apparently the entire show of MLP:FiM actually helps people (in general) who have autism with their social skills. And I am yet to see any studies and evidence of this being true.

You have Aspergers too? Wow, and I thought I was the only one.
