How and when did you become a brony?

Let's see... I had a week off during the summer from football. In August. I had just recently bought my iPod, and so I was like, "I can do anything I want on here, and nobody will know."

 

Kept seeing brony memes. Wondered what all the hype was about. So I watched the first two episodes before going to bed one night.

 

Never was the same again. Ponies and football were basically all I did all summer.

It was some time in june or july . my friend was talking about the show and i called him gay then i was like well i can't really say that it's gay with out seeing the show so i watched the first two episodes a few hours later i had seen two FULL SEASONS !!!

Well...okay, shameless self-promotion, but I'm actually writing an "FiMfic" as I call them. It's called "You Can't Shy Away From Fate" (Can you guess which pony is a main character?).

 

Other than that, I've seen some decent fics in my time being a brony (about a year officially, but I was kind of a brony prior to it.), so go ahead, and good luck with your search! Another good one was "In Another Land" by CloudFyre, it's a different genre called "HiE" (Human in Equestria). I know some people are skeptics about that, I was too, but it was an awesome story that I highly recommend.

Thanks, I'll check those out. Like I said, I've never been a fan of FiMfiction, (or any type of fan fiction) because a lot of the stories seem cliche and poorly written. But yeah, I'll give it a shot.

Became a brony in July 2011. On this forum I usually go to, I kept seeing ponies as people's avatars so I figured that I'd see what all the fuss was about. I found out that it was from MLP, and I was... confused to say the least. "How are people liking this stuff?" Anyways I decided to try it out anyways and watch an episode, and one turned to three. Then I ended up watching the whole first season in one night. And here I am now.

As with everyone else the internet got flooded with pony pictures. Eventually I asked someone where was it from and they said MLP. Then I saw alot of people using it haas avatars on profiles I asked them why use a character from a girly show. The responded it isn't as girly as it looked and they said to give it a chance.I went a few months without watching it until the start of 2012 when I watched the first episode. It wasn't as bad as I expected but when I skipped around and watched the season 2 premiere and Lesson Zero I began to get sucked in. The community was responsible for making me a brony because I was relieved other people my age and older loved the show and began integrating ponies into my daily life till today.

I joined the herd in august 2011, when my friend [AKA mint petal] cepped bugging me to watch it. all this went on for about three weeks then final I caved and said fine, if I watch the first episode will you stop bugging me about it. And when I was done I looked to him and said that was kind of  interesting now I have to watch the next episode. A then couldn't stop untill I was done with season 1. One week later season 2 started.

I'm been a brony for one year and I intend to be one for a long time to come.

for me i like many people were kinda confused when i heard about bronies dident really have anything against it i meen i think likeing a show with ponys wasent a crime i just dident care and declined when my friends asked me to watch it several times over the summer i went to a camp and when i got back and played on an xbox like there was no tommorow (two weeks with no electronics has that effect on me)

 

while playing I saw one of my friends online and as we talked three of his friends joined and we chatted 2 hours later the chat had me and a girl and another guy still but my friend and other guy had left after talking for a while i noticed once or twice that he was referencing something but i didn't know what he said something like "minecraft just got 20% cooler" and as we were playing he started attacking a chicken and i made a joke saying "why'd you kill the chicken its dreams will never come true" we were laughing when he added "atleast it wasn't scootalo" i was confused until later when he said bro hoof when we survived a bunch of creepers ...

 

 

i wasn't surprised that he was a brony and asked as much confirming it he told me i should watch the first two episodes again i kept saying na man that aint me ... 10 minutes later i hit the point were i said f*** it i need to see why this is so populer cause a group of atleast 7 people at school and another brony online on the other side of the U.S. there has to be some reason ...yaaaaaaaa after hearing giggle at the ghosties i knew id be obsessed with this show and i am watched most of seaon one and 2 within the next 2-3 days aaand i think most of my days are spent with atleast SOMTHING pony related on mind ... im pretty sure its unhealthy but who gives a buck this family of bronies is awesome  lol ... thow recently im a little urcked by the show and hasbro but thats cause my fav character in the whole show is derpy ill assume you can see why im urked ahh welll bro hoofs for everyone ~~~~~/)

I don't remember at all, maybe my cousin knows   .  Anyways how I became a brony is a simple story.  I had heard nothing about guys watching mlp until my cousin came to visit, he brought along his laptop and we stayed up all night on our laptops, he was showing me all kinds of pony pictures and in the back of my head I was thinking, hey these are kind of cool.  So he proceeded to show me mlp related videos and pictures until I finally said: Dude I'm just going to have to check that show out.  And so i did, the season 2 finale was my first episode. I was hooked.   I began to watch more episodes and became a member of the fandom either right before or during my cousins second visit, in fact the first thing he said on his second visit when he walked in the door he said BROHOOF and we brohoofed.  All night we looked at mlp related stuff on the internet and posted on the fantoms,  if you even bothered to read all that, thank you.

I may have mentioned this already, but I'm not about to check through 35 pages of posts, so...

 

Back in sometime in 2011 (probably the spring) I noticed a whole ton of Pony avatars appearing on my favorite anime forum.  Now this is from generally intelligent people over the age of 20 whose opinions I respected, so I was curious.  I also generally liked animation like Spongebob and the Powerpuff Girls (animation written in a way that both kids and adults would be entertained) and I figured this was probably up a similar alley.  So I watched Friendship is Magic parts 1 and 2, and I was right.  I liked it, but I kind of put off getting further into it, because it just wasn't the right time.  And I kept on putting it off and putting it off until February, when I basically marathoned the first season and a half in a couple of weeks.

I was looking on what used to be Discovery Kids at the time and they were advertising the channel's change to the Hub

One of the shows the Commercial was advertising was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic so I told myself that I was watch it no matter what...

 

Honestly, I was just expecting to watch at least half of it before thinking "nope, can't watch it" but when I actually saw the first episode as it aired I thought "well shit, this is MUCH better than I thought it would be "

Well I started to watch the show around the end of July 2012 and I instantly liked it, but I don't think I started to think of myself as a brony until around the end of August when I found myself staying up till 4 am listening to fanfic readings :3 Soon after, I started to really get into the fandom. I satrted to read more and more fics, watch pony videos on Youtube, and even thinking of writing a fic of my own. That's when I truly realized that I was hooked to the show and all MLP-related content. "And that's how Equestria was made" as our pink friend would probably say

I would say the beginning of December last year. I'm just going to copy what I put in my introduction thread, because I don't want to type it all out again.

 

How I found MLP was by first finding out about the word Brony. Of course it took some time before I actually looked into it. I really only looked into it when I started seeing the word pop up more often. So naturally I had to find out, then I dismissed it. Then I looked into it some more a few months later when I started thinking about it again, then did some "research". Watched some more videos about Bronies. Then a few days later, I watched the first episode of the abridged version. I then promptly began to watch more videos on bronies (including ballad of the brony) and do more "research" and I visited Equestria Daily a few times. I think at this point I was afraid I was going to like MLP and I was procrastinating about watching it. But I decided to watch the first episode to see why so many males liked it because I got pretty curious about it. After watching it I could kind of see why it was liked so much, but I again procrastinated against watching the next episode. I was trying to avoid liking a show for "little girls". Naturally I couldn't get ponies out of my head after watching the first episode. So I decided to watch the next episode to see what happened, and from there, I decided screw it! I'm going to watch this. I accepted that I was slowly being drawn into this. I believe I was already being drawn into MLP when I started really looking into bronies and watching videos about bronies. I think subconsciously I knew I was going to like it and through days of procrastinating, I finally accepted it.

I didn't hear about MLP: FIM until sombody posted it about on Deviantart. I watched the entire first season on youtube in August 2011. That's all it took for me to become a Brony.

I just started to wonder, why did other brony's /pegasister joined the herd? I mean what caught your attention to it?

 

Like i kept hearing more and more about the show and the art work, and at first i was skeptical of it a first (im goth what did you expect?) and at first i though wow this is amazing! 

 

The animation was amazing, the plot was epic,and the charcters we just so applizing to the eye!

I have been hooked since i watched it for the first time ,and then the community behind it made me feel just so welcome and loved!

 

And i want to hear your story!
