One thing I love about Monster Hunter is how it allows for so many different playstyles. I love evading, you love blocking, and we both have the weapons and skills to match our different playstyles! And even better, Monster Hunter does a great job of balancing these different playstyles, so neither of us are inherently disadvantaged by the way we want to play!

That's the best thing about mh as a whole. Where other rpgs have classes and defined roles in monster hunter the only thing that picks what you do is you.

I agree with both this quote, and the quote quoted in it!

I know what happened. But I'd rather not say. I too was permanently scarred, and I'd like to make sure no-one else suffers what Sentinel and I suffered.

I need to go kill the Shagaru Magala now... ;-; I'm scared... I have almost full Rathalos armour, with the exception of a Seltas belt. (I didn't want to grind for a Rathalos Plate...) I have the Rathalos Firesword (? I think it was called that) , can I beat him? (He seems scary... ;-;)

Dual Blades are my prefered weapons. Especially the Enduring Schisms (420 drag :P) and my other favorites, the Sandgashers made from Tigerstripe Zamitros (Only 100 para but damn I love those things!)

Until I make the chameleos dual swords tho I have to use my Poison Battleaxe. at 500 poison it is one of the best support weapons of the game and good for long haul, multiple monster hunts.

Stay near is back feet as much as possilble, if your there your safe from most of his attacks, just remember he always links certain moves together meaning while he is doing these moves he cannot move so either retreat, heal or position yourself to better dmg him. Shagaru my seem faster but hes actually more predictable than a regular gore magala in frenzy.

He hates dragon more than Fire so if you can make the Gore Magala GS or polish up either the Worn/Rusted Greatswords you should have trouble with Sharu Magala

I'm back! I'm ready for a weekend full of MH4U, and pure awesomeness! I wanted to mention three things that I thought were interesting during my gaming experience (in bold, for those with not much time).

1. Palicoes have grown on me very quickly! Cats aren't my favorite animal, but those cute critters are a welcome member of the series in my eyes. Anyone here gave their main Palico a unique or interesting name they'd like to share? I named my little feline comrade Athena; the day I bought the game, I thought Palicoes used miniature, but EXACT, replicas of possible weapons and armor that hunters could equip. I was going to have her be a Lancer while I stuck to the charge blade like glue. The truth kinda disappointed me, but at least I didn't feel obligated to ditch my old, trusty monster jabber and steel slab combination, anymore!

2. Does the 3DS' control and button format screw you up occasionally, or rarely? I fell in love with the lance's new leaping stab that could be triggered during a running charge. It nets mount opportunities very efficiently! However, AT LEAST ONCE A DAY when I'm doing a running charge, I don't leap in the air to do the badass midair stab that I wanted, but stop in my tracks; derping up, and practically allowing the beastie to smack me. It can even start a chain of hits, followed by me seeing stars and eventually brought back to the base on a wheeled, kitty-guided stretcher!  :eww:

3.  I just repelled Gore Magala while waiting on my Calculus class,

( :squee:  I hate college, by the way. That image is directed toward the game; I just wanted to put in an visible "squee" noise)

, and the entire battle was EPIC! Because I knew how to use the tools thanks to my frustrating solo hunts against Jhen Mohran in 3U, he was repelled too quickly. Regardless of that though, I liked a repel quest that ENDED EARLY more than an awesome showdown against Goldbeard Ceadeus! Capcom's clearly doing something right if they planned on their most recent game being blatantly superior!

I'm happy to hunt with you! My friend code is 1306-5158-9717

The lances leap attack requires a minimium running distance to gain momentum for the jump, the longer the run the higher the jump. while your charging you'll hear a noise similar to that when you charge a bow or GS between charge levels. This is then your ready to leap. I also find it helps to press foward on the analog stick when I press the button to jump as well.

Thanks for the advice, but I already knew this. I pretty much attempt the leap, when I see the red flash vanish, less than seconds after appearing. Attempting, and failing horribly, at maining the GS gave me practice on the timing, at least (I loved the concept of the weapon, and still do, but when I couldn't rouse Ceadeus into destroying the cave blockage, I knew it just wasn't meant for me).

All in all, I blame my big-ass fingers for the occasional lance leap mistake.

Edit:I added in your friend code, FortyTwo42. I'm looking forward to hunting, and working together with ya!

Edit 2: What are your preferences, toward bringing palico allies, or not? Are there any weapon types that you'd feel uncomfortable to see, if a hunter ally were to show up with it equipped? Do you prefer allies to bring status ailment weapons, or are you cool with whatever? Also, what's the agreed upon rule for monster mounting?

Sorry, if I sound like a game show quiz host. I'm just trying to get an idea of the norm and etiquette of online mode, to prevent botching my first online hunt. I'm just taking down offline quests, at the moment, to better prepare myself for online.

I completed some more quests with my trusty Zinogre and Rathalos armor sets. It's smooth sailing so far.

Seriously, when is that lady gonna start packing up and head back home every time I handled those monsters for her?

Aah, don't worry, that lady will be ready to leave eventually... At least I think she will.

I don't even know anymore.

Yes because every time she tries to leave, monsters block her path. This is like one of those jokes that run for a long time. What's next? A gigantic, dragon-breathing lizard? Seriously, she should have left like a couple of weeks ago.

Ooh, I hope it's not THAT monster I'm mentioning.

If the only time you had trouble with the Great Sword was in the Ceadeus quest, don't let that discourage you from using the weapon. As long as you enjoy it, just keep using it. You'll naturally get better and better at the the more you use it anyway. I still think I'm rather poor with the Dual Blades, but I love them anyway and keep using them, so I know I'm going to improve eventually.

Edit:I added in your friend code, FortyTwo42. I'm looking forward to hunting, and working together with ya!

I'm about to add yours now! ;)

What are your preferences, toward bringing palico allies, or not?

If you can, you probably should bring them. I can't think of any disadvantage to bringing Palico allies. However, you can only bring Palicos when there's just two of you hunting. Three or four, and no-one can bring Palicos.

My Palico still has their default gear. I've just never gotten around to making new ones for them. I'm probably only going to make the special costumes, like the Mario and Mega Man ones as they come out. But I don't want to make any Mario costumes unless they release a quest that allows you to get enough Super Mushrooms to make both costumes, since I'm worried about making one and changing my mind later when its too late. I mainly use my Palicos for the Stamina Forte. Getting infinite stamina for a little while is amazing for the Bow and Dual Blades.

Are there any weapon types that you'd feel uncomfortable to see, if a hunter ally were to show up with it equipped?

I just want everyone to hunt with their favourite weapons. Some weapons can be more disruptive than others, but with a bit of mindfulness you should be able to avoid whacking your allies too much no matter what you use. Use whatever weapon you want, just be careful about hitting allies if you have a long reach or you have attacks that can launch allies, especially if you're fighting a small monster.

Do you prefer allies to bring status ailment weapons, or are you cool with whatever?

Just like with my above reply, bring whatever you want. Just try to make sure you bring a weapon with the element the monster is weakest against if you're using an elemental weapon. But sometimes that's now always possible, so just bring whatever you think will work best out of the weapons you currently have.

Also, what's the agreed upon rule for monster mounting?

If you can, do it! The time spent unleashing everyone's attacks on a downed monster more than makes up for the lost time from someone riding the monster while everyone waits. And besides, you can spend that time drinking potions and sharpening your weapon, which you'd have to do eventually anyway, so I think there's barely any time wasted at all.

In case you're not aware, when someone mounts a monster, make sure you stop attacking it. If you make the monster flinch, it makes the mounter fall off, losing your opportunity to down the monster and destroy it.

'Divorce me home, hunter! DIVORCE ME HOME!' and 'Oh. My. GALOSHES. Does some vengeful god want to keep me from getting home or something?' Comic relief at its finest.

I woke up recently, and I'm ready for another day of MH4U!

Am I the only one here that thinks that it's weird that Basrios, the "winged fortress", has not a single defensive skill given by its armor set? I thought I'd find another opportunity to get either Guard+ or GuardUp!

:(

After what I said, a thought struck into my head about the monster that we players fear most.

Savage Deviljho (I never fought that train-wreck-causing monstrosity, thankfully), or a specific elder dragon?

..................

Plesioth with a hip check that cause an instant cart with every hit that lands?

Yeah, I also found it weird how the tigrex armour doesn't have the challenger skill. I mean, c'mon! It's whole gimmick is it's rage mode!

Also, plesioth armour with tranquilizer+? I thought he was the fish monster of broken ass hit boxes, not putting things to sleep.

I agree. I also almost choked on my cereal, while reading the bolded part of your post I didn't expect that metaphor.

Friendly fire is frowned upon, Monotone! Especially, hits that somehow are affected by a high enough affinity metaphor to ignore the game's set rules, and reduce a Hunter Ally's health! Please at least, consider using a low affinity metaphor, if bringing it during an online hunt.

With that out of the way, Good morning, Hunters! I have a question that might jolt some, possibly sluggish from sleep, minds:

One of the top influential Capcom developers sends you a private email, that could change the future of the MH Series. Inside the email, they ask if you approve of this idea:

The defeat limit and time restriction are more lenient. 9 or 10 defeats causes an instant quest failure, and slightly more than 1 hour and 40 minutes causes instant failure as well.

However, game difficulty will be between either doubled, or tripled; damage received, hitboxes, monster movesets, blight/abnormal status influence, cooldowns, frame recovery, etc are included in this group.

Would you approve or refuse this idea?

Single player: Hell to the no.

I think that the game is pretty well balanced as it is. Making it much longer and drawn out is probably not the best idea for an already lengthy game. I think the way that hunts are broken up and kind of short helps you to stay engaged. Also, balancing out more continues with more difficulty will make it frustrating. Most people are already pulling out their hair when they only get one cart.

The way I see it, it's kind of like getting one big smack in face for a split second vs. getting tiny smacks every 5 minutes for an hour. When you get that big smack, sure it hurts and the stinging sensation may linger for a bit, but it's quick and over with before you could even react. Where as tiny smacks won't hurt as much, but it will really get on your nerves by the 30 minute mark. Probably not the best analogy in the world, but I tried.

However, when it comes to multiplayer: probably?

If you have an excellent team of hunters, most monsters just become a push over. Hell, even a full team of mediocre players can kick some ass in good time. So adding the parameters you listed may make the game a bit more balanced for the co-op side of the game.

It means that people will have to be more careful, more synchronized and better prepared. Instead of being able to constantly stun lock the monster into submission. The larger amount of continues would also make it a tad less frustrating when one of your team is down for the count. Though I'd probably keep the defeats closer to a maximum of 5. 9 or 10 is probably a bit too much.

I'm still grinding on Coronalahn Flahkasses hunts. The Early breakfast set requires too many rare materials to craft in a day! The monster, itself, is already a pain to deal with; especially when soloing. Also,Capcom ended the event that gave Kellogg tickets, because they thought it made getting the set too easy.  Have some sympathy, man! :o

The new messages that I received, after choosing to view DLC in the main menu, scared the crap outta me. I thought I was mindlessly jamming "A", and leading my save data to its demise....

Edit:

Guess who just lost their last stylus, today!      I'm not too bothered, though.

I'm trudging through offline at a decent pace; keeping the future in mind, while still enjoying the sights...

Edit 2:

I'm beyond excited about the event quests! I don't plan on doing any that I've downloaded right now, but I still feel hyped about how fun and challenging  it will be, when I do!  ^_^
