How Do Your Parent(s)/Guardian(s) Feel About You Watching MLP?

I live clear across the country from my folks, and when we do talk on the phone its about things going on in our lives. My dad likes cartoons and anime though so I can't imagine he'd have much of a reaction beyond a little ribbing.

Well my dad once asked me if I was 'a bit too old' for it when I was listening to some of the songs once, but when I told him 'probably, but I enjoy it', he shrugged and he's fine with it.

My mum always tells me that she trusts my judgement and that nobody but me is in any position to decide what I do and don't like. She even told me that she'd be willing to take me to a brony convention if any came up around here, even though she's not a fan of the show herself, so she's cool with it.

They also got me a Rainbow Dash wig and rainbow socks for Christmas because they both know I'm also into cosplay, so that was awesome.

They're cool with it. I've been pretty eccentric when it comes to what shows I watch. I've been watching cartoons all my life and they're used to me watching all sorts of anime though the years. So when they saw me and my bro watching an episode, they pretty much went "oh kayyy?"  My dad's ok with it, though he still doesn't get it. My mom's cool about it. She even likes some of the characters, got herself a few figurines and even designs pony like characters in her Ovipets FB game.

  • 1 month later...

My mum doesn't really mind, and she was even fine with checking out a few episodes with me when I was beginning with the show. My dad... I have the feeling he shouldn't be okay with it, knowing him, yet at the same time, he has seen a pony drawing I made and seemed to like it, and walked into my room a few times where he could probably see my MLP poster... I don't know if it's that he doesn't really get it, or he's more mellow about it than I thought. o.o

They both don't care, especially since I haven't told them about it. I wear two shirts of it as pajamas and they see it with no mind whatsoever. They just think it's one of those cartoons that trend with older audiences - which is kinda accurate.

Plus I have a lack of merchandise and only just watch the show and produce art from time to time now. They know that I draw, so that's not big of a deal, and I watch the episodes on my phone, so they can't peek over and pay attention. They don't mind. XD

My dad passed away before I got into the show so I never got to see firsthand how he would have felt about it. Knowing him though he would have trolled me a bit about it, but there is also the possibility he may have reacted negative due to the fact that he was rather shall we say old fashioned in certain ways. My mom actually thought it was adorable at first when she saw my Applejack shirt and accepted my explanation of it. Then my brother found out and told her all this bullshit he probably picked up from Howard Stern about bronies being overgrown manchildren/pedophiles ect... and actually told her about clop. My mom is 62 years old and has no concept of R34 so she was shocked and horrified about it and because of that I had a rather awkward conversation with her about "perverts that make porn of it and jack off to it" but what pissed me off the most and I still haven't completely forgiven her for is how she used the fact that I want a girlfriend by asking how I expected to get one being into this.

I simply responded that I didn't give a damn what people thought and that I want nothing to do with anyone who is shallow and closed minded enough to condemn me for something as harmless as liking a show about cartoon ponies. Sure she hasn't brought it up since but that is only because I reluctantly agreed to no longer wear my pony shirts in public places, an agreement that I am no longer going to abide by once I am no longer living with her (we support each other for financial reasons). So she seems to kind of tolerate it but would probably prefer if I wasn't into it anymore.

But, either way, they don't care if I like the show, clopping they just HATE with a strong passion, but . . . I ignore it . . .

That is why I am glad that my mom dosen't know that I do that though that awkward speech where she condemned the "perverts who make porn of it and jack off to it" cut through me like knife.

My parents don't know very much about me or my habits on the internet, and that is something that will remain for the rest of my life. They aren't normal human beings with any concept of what this is anyway. Trying to explain it to them would be something they couldn't begin to wrap their heads around.

My parents don't mind. It I hope they don't, lol.

I've always loved watching little kid shows and stuffed animals, so I doubt they're surprised that I watch this or order mlp purses and pillow pets on Amazon.

(edited)

I never see my parents anymore so I wouldn't know and pretty much wouldn't care. If I had a functional family then I'd say they would accept me for who I am in life and go about day to day life. If I had a domestically violent family then I'd say they'd beat me until I never set eyes on the fandom ever again. I am my own independent person nowadays though so I do not have this aspect to my life anymore.
