Calling all Pokémon bronies!

The newest "evolution" in the Pokémon franchise is coming in 2016!

UPDATE:   Japan, Sept. 17th 2015

             N. America, Nov 20th 2015

Europe, early 2016

I'm about as psyched as you can get. This is it folks, this feels like what Pokémon has been leading up too, the natural progression if you will.

Let's discuss! Have any thoughts, feelings, or guesses?

I'm cautiously optimistic with this game. On one hand, it is really exciting to battle with other people in the real world. It's also amazing to see how much the franchise has evolved. But on the other hand, I'm not expecting anything too special. Even if it looks nice, I do hope Nintendo knows what they're doing as it is an ambitious game. I'm also a little peeved by how the game seemingly only has Kanto Pokemon, but that doesn't really ruin my excitement that much.

Let's hope Nintendo pours a lot of effort into Pokemon Go, because I would definitely download this if it turns out to be a success.

Okay, it's probably not as cool as it actually looks. But the idea behind it is very intriguing and very revolutinary.

I guess you can pretty much go through the city and catch Pokemon that appear in your city, which is cool because you actually have to do something and not just sit around.

Ladies and Gentleman, i haven't been this hyped for a Pokemon for over a decade, but this actually might be the Pokemon game, that i was waiting for.

Can't wait to hear more of it.

EDIT: Also, i am glad that it only has Kanto Pokemon, since these are the only once i know (besides the Johto once :P)

I bet its like pokemon on the phone...I wonder if they will have regional pokemon because I'm in Florida, if not then it could just be random perday. Also I bet they were just showing off with Kanto and popular pokemon (I hope that I don't have to pay for all that stuff if I get it)

I'd like to think Pokemon knows what they're doing, enough so that they'd risk the franchise on a mobile game. I do have a fear about the pay-for-play model getting integrated.

That is something I'm really enthusiastic about... It will get people (who normally wouldn't) out of their houses, making friends, and enjoying exercise and the outdoors, and they don't even know it. Pretty smart if you ask me!

If this worksout, this will make Nintendo even richer.

Seriously though, this is the most revolutionary idea i have seen in years when it comes to gaming. I kind of criticize the gaming industry (mainly the mainstream industry) that they play it too safe and that they rather bring out the millionth edition, of the same old FPS. But this a breath of fresh air and i welcome it with wide open arms.

Please Nintendo. Don't screw this up.

I'm keeping the hype levels really low until we see signs of an actual product. I have admittingly very little faith in gamefreak as of late and there are a lot of things that could go wrong here. I'm also particularly worried that microtransactions have been confirmed this early and I think it's going to be a big part of the game's design. Time will tell I suppose, hopefully they're not just hyping everyone up for a vicious cash cow.

I wouldn't be to concerned, if it's anything like Niantic's last game (which is still really popular), then there should be little to no microtransactions at all.

If you have doubts look up the game Ingress. That game relies on in game ads, resulting in the companies still generating revenue, and not charging for things in the game (pay-to-play/freemium model).

I'm pretty excited for this game, but I'm also keeping my expectations low as well. I love the Pokemon franchise, and this is a really cool idea, but I'm worried that it will rely heavily on Microtransactions and just be a Freemium game..

I'm also a little peeved by how the game seemingly only has Kanto Pokemon, but that doesn't really ruin my excitement that much.

I feel like the game will have more than Kanto Pokemon, I don't see why they wouldn't. (Hopefully you don't have to buy certain regions with microtransactions.)

If you see me around, feel free to say hey!

Holy crap this is like the beginning of creating a virtual reality with actual Pokemon and it makes me super excited for it. Like I hope this gets really good reviews because this is awesome. Also how will you know what to be able to catch will each place around the world be like a zone for different pokemon cause that would be interesting to see how you can catch the pokemon

I think it will be like, you can just catch certain pokemon at certain time at certain places. I kinda hope that the terrain also plays a role, but that might be a bit too much to ask.

>tfw you have to go to graveyards, to catch a Gengar. XD

I would be very interested to see what you could possibly catch in the New England area cause if I was to go hiking in Maine it would be awesome to like catch a great pokemon while hiking too :D

I don't see too much different from pokemon dream catcher. Cool, now I can go outside and see pokemon on my phone. It's not gonna project images onto the street of to scale 3D pokemon, which is what the trailer seems to suggest to children. I get it, it's hype and marketing, but there was no gameplay at all for it. I want to like it, I really do, but I'm gonna hold off on it until I see some solid reviews or gameplay

I myself am not a huge Pokemon fan. I enjoy the games, but I just can't get myself to finish the post-game for ORAS. So as someone who's kind of in-and-out on the franchise, I can safely say that this may not be what everyone is hoping.

There's a chance it could be a great, but also pretty bad. The JWittz pretty much says it best.

That trailer is pretty awesome!

I really hope that Pokemon Go is anywhere as close as cool as it's trailer leads to believe.

Because I want it to be good and it seems to have some great potential to be something new, interesting, and fun.

I swear, if Pokemon exclusive to certain countries, only rich people are gonna be Pokemon Masters. My childhood dreams will be ruined!

I can't wait 'till this comes out, though. It'll be great to go on my bike route and find a pikachu or something

This... Looks... Awesome! I'm part of a Pokemon Forum, and there's a lot of discussion about this game going on there. So far, it looks really cool! There's not much insight into the actual in game graphics, but they're probably gonna be pretty good if there has been so much hype worked up for it already. But it better be available in all countries :I

I'm exited for this but I'm worried to see just exactly what they do with it. I think the term is cautiously optimistic? I want it to be good but I have a feeling its not going to be what everyone thinks it is, people sometimes expect too much.

For all those worried about the pesky micro-transactions, here's some food for thought:

:sneer: You could actually make money off this game. :sneer:

Let me explain: in the Pokemon games when you lose a battle you have to fork over Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png's (or Pokedollars). So if you think about it, if say you have to pay 5$, 10$, 20$ or 50$ for 5000Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png, 10000Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png, 20000Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png, and 50000Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png respectively. In return, normal items like normal Pokeballs will be 100Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png, and 300Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png to buy a traditional potion.

So in theory, if you beat someone in a battle you get, let's say 560Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png for beating them. Then that's about 50¢ of real money that you earned- and that's for a low-level/starting trainer level.

Fast forward- Elite four skill-level trainers hand out, around 5000-8000Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png a piece. So that's 5-8$ in real world cash.

Let's take this to a whole new tier: Pokemon Global link tournaments, which depending on the scale can earn real world money too sometimes into the thousands.

SO.

TL;DR

Get Pokemon GO! app

Spend IRL moneys to get items

Travel IRL to catch Pokemon

Train your Pokemon

Beat trainers, take their money

Grind your Pokemon like a boss.

Enter Pokemon tournaments, make IRL money.

Quit your dayjob and play pokemon for a living

????

Profit!

B) Congratulations! You just used an awesome video game to generate IRL money B)
