And maybe not as silly, I thought the name "Thunderdogs" sounded cool, and a play on the term underdogs, and I wanted to search to see if anyone had called their band that. My bets were on no, but I found like 7 different bands called Thunderdogs...

Well, there is a band called Rainbow Butt Monkeys. There are a bunch if you look it up. I once formed a joke (we only ever learned one song) band called Einsteins Blazing Pipe. Our other ideas were Optimus and the Primes, and Red Scare.

As a Baby Boomer, I can tell you that there have always been bands w silly names but the 1960s & 1980s were probably the hey day of silliness

Gene Loves Jezebel

Jodie Foster's Army  (IMO, neither amounted to much but did have top 40 songs)

1970s

Johnny Rotten & The Sex Pistols (credited with being one of the earliest punk rock bands)

Disco Duck (song title not a band)

10 CCs (Folklore said the band's name referred to the size of the result of an activity I can't mention where children will read it)

1960s

Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (had a number of fairly silly songs but "Crystal Blue Persuasion (It's a Good Vibration)" wasn't bad)

The Mugwumps (short lived band in 1964 but some of the members went on to form The Mommas and The Poppas & another went on to form The Loving Spoonfull.  Both were HUGE in the late 60s/early 70s)

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (usually called The Band for short.  IMO, never amounted to much musically but they've been around almost as long as The Rolling Stones & they were a LEGENDARY concert band, especially before Jerry Garcia died.  Oh yeah, Nits are the larval form of lice)

3 Dog Night (Old country saying about cold nights -how many dogs you had to use as space heaters in bed at night.  They said they were That Cool)

I once wanted to form a parody black/death metal band called Baby Eater. Most bands at least try and be lyrical with their violent themes. I wondered what it would be like to have a band that just came out and said it a la Steel Panther for black metal.
