Food for thought - how close do the timeline events of equestria follow those of the human world?

I mean I know that in alternate dimensions if you hurt one pony the pony in the other dimension will be affected - this was established in the "good sombra" storyline (not sure if canon though..)

I still giggle about luna being expelled to lunar high for 1000 years :P

At this point, we have three separate canons

TV Show

IDW Comics

Equestria Girls

So no, Vice Principal Luna was probably not banished for 1000 years (Banished where, Human Ponyville Elementary?)

She's probably not even related to Principal Celestia

It's an amusing idea, but realistically...

(Or maybe I'm just old and boring)

No.

Nightmare Moon's banishment leads through a long chain of consequences to Twilight Sparkle becoming Celestia's student and being sent to Ponyville just exactly in time to redeem Luna.

As the Twilight Sparkle of EQG never met the Elements of Harmony or Celestia, chances are that EQG Luna was never banished either, or else she would have needed to be redeemed somehow.

Or, more simply: no magic = no Nightmare Moon

Nightmare Moon was Luna's "phase" during her childhood

"IT'S NOT A PHASE, MOM!"

hehe...phase...because moon, geddit?

Actually, I think the movies might've said they're sisters?

Also, the EQG movies seem to me to fit pretty clearly into show continuity. They just don't have any bearing on anything, what with taking place in another world and all.

they dont need to have magic for the events to be the same.

In EQG celestia runs the school - and luna is second in command. Luna could get sick of being shafted all those years and threaten to take over as head of the school - celestia could then report her to the school board and have luna transferred to another school, (maybe "lunar high" for sh*ts and giggles in this example) and for 1000 years they don't speak to each other. Twilight wouldn't necessarily have to be the one to bring her back in eqg - just having luna change due to twilight saving her in fim might lead to her suddenly having a change of heart in eqg, thus allowing her to have already returned to equestria high by the time twilight from fim visits eqh.

Anyway, for my part... I wondered before if Vice Principal Luna had just come back from serving a 10 year prison sentence. :P

Yes they do, because it's magic that lets Celestia and Luna live for 1000 years in the first place, and magic didn't exist in the human world until Twilight Prime's crown was introduced. There's no indication the Principal versions are anything but ordinary mortals -- indeed they have no more idea what's going on in the school and no more resistance to siren magic et al. than any of the students -- so any sentence Luna serves must be much shorter. She'd get more like a month's suspension for instigating a cafeteria food fight or something.

It's heavily implied that all these magical disturbances at the high school are only gotten away with because they would sound absolutely ridiculous when reported to the school board, police, FBI, etc, as Celestia explicitly challenges Cinch to do so. If Luna had received a punishment this would not have slipped under the radar because, there being no magic, there's no refuge in audacity.

So, whatever happened cannot at all be an approximation of Nightmare Moon, and would be more in line with a noodle incident-style joke.

I don't really think the EQG universe ever had a NMM like incident with Luna.

Because before the the first movie there wasn't any magic in said universe.  And no magic means that Luna couldn't have transformed into Nightmare Moon and or be banished to the moon.

Checked the wiki and apparently they're sisters

Luna did state this in the first movie after Flash showed her the fake pictures of Twilight trashing the gym. She said something like "I'll let my sister know of these latest developments."

Anyway, I doubt anything happened between Celestia and Luna that was on par with the Nightmare Moon incident. They could have had a falling-out in the past over some mundane issue or another and then reconciled before the events of the movie.

Maybe Luna got tired of her sister hogging all the cake and moved out of their apartment for a while then decided that she needed to lose weight anyway and moved back in.

I literally have no idea. Does time even work the same in both worlds? Or did the time between them only Sync when  Twilight went through the first time.

Who knows.

I like this idea.
