One of the problems with modern Spongebob is that a lot of the original showrunners left after production of the 2004 movie, considering that it was intended to be the series finale. Since its uncancellation, Spongebob hasn't been the same; the post-movie seasons haven't been as good, yet Viacom seems intent on keeping the series alive just to act as a time-filling cash cow (ever notice how 80% of Nick's weekday schedule is endless Spongebob reruns?)

Personally, I'd rather see Friendship is Magic end with the 2017 movie than risk Hasbro "zombifying" the series. End the series on a high note, in a way. Besides, it's not like the fandom will die when the show does. Plus, maybe the comic series will continue; after the Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM cartoon ended, the comics continued, following the same timeline until 2011 or so.

Oh, and i have a few questions.

I know that MLP has been shit in the past but i don't know if there was a show for every generation of toys, so my question is: do we know for sure that generation 5 will come with a new show along side the toys?

Do you think Hasbro would wanna bring G5 fast just so they can make money out of it?

What do you think the level of changes in G5 will be?

I think if it will stay in the same universe but just with other characters, maybe set 1.000 years later the fandom can stay the same and be more enjoyable for people who liked MLP:FiM. It would suck if they changed EVERYTHING.

As long as the show doesn't begin to rot, I'm all for it continuing. Since the show really makes me happy, and it's the only reason I care to wake up on Saturdays, I'd really like to see it continue after the movie.

  • 2 weeks later...

After seeing the s5 finale, I have more confidence that the show is improving every year. Newer characters are being introduced (like Starlight) which can lead to a ton of story ideas. So, same as I said before. It must continue!

As someone in the mlp industry I can say that there wont be a season 7. Even though they planned to make one, and even have a full script. they threw it away

BUT, there will be a G5 ;p

I hope it goes for atleast 7 seasons.

It won't go 7 seasons....that is too less. I say at least 70 seasons (I am obviously exaggerating. I will be 90 by that time)

MLP industry? As in toy industry?

I wouldn't mind a G5 as long as they have the same characters in the same world. I don't mind new ones, but the old ones must not go.

What does the oracle say about this statement?

As long as the show is still good the movie shouldn't make much difference to whether or not it continues

TMNT had a few movies already and still going, and it's a similar show in that it's aimed at kids but has things thrown in for older audiences (in fact some of the more recent episodes are a bit on the creepy side for younger viewers) and it has very strong merchandise tie ins. You can say it's had a few generations due to changes in animation style, but it's been the same main characters all the way through, so no reason for Gen 4 ponies to be scrapped unless the show or the merch really starts to bomb

Hell, even Thomas the Tank Engine had 11 feature length episodes, one with a full theatrical release and several with limited theatrical, and 30 years in, it's still in production and still selling toys based off the same characters. Even has another feature length coming next year - (my son is a big Thomas fan, probably his favorite show, ponies would be somewhere in his top 5 along with TMNT ^_^)

Good to finally hear some positive examples instead of SpongeBob

Yeah ^_^ I think other shows that orginiated in the 80's are better comparisons, MLP and Thomas are both around the 30 year mark now and TNMT is over 25. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" applies to product lines as much as anything else, and as far as sales go MLP hit on a good formula with the characters and show quaility in Gen 4. Despite all the current talk, it seems like a nonsensical business move to end on a high, good artistically perhaps, but not great business to change something that's still shifting units

As I said in another thread though, alowing people to think it's going to end/change soon is not bad for business though.. "buy now before they're all gone" is a tried and tested sales method

It definitely works. Whenever Hasbro MLP sales fall, I end up buying merchandise 'otherwise the show will end'.

^_^ nice

I haven't really bought much in the way of merchandise, got a Derpy Pendant and a Nightshirt for my daughter (with a nice winter pic of Rarity and Dashie) and she's asked for a Rarity EQ Girls doll for xmas.

Oh, she also has a hoodie with Rarity and Twilight.

Why would i mind if Mlp continues?

I dont really understand the question.

If its bad, i just stop watching it, like i did with the Simpsons.

But i dont mind if it continues.

Someone is always happy, if something continues and as long as it makes some people happy, everything can continue as long as ever.

I dont mind at all.

I noticed that a lot of people wanted mlp to stop after the movie. This is why I started this to see if people would 'mind' if it continued. I myself want it to continue

I suppose it depends on how things are looking then. I'm sure the show has another season or two (after season six) left in it. However anything can happen, so we'll have to wait and see.

In the past I wanted it to never end but now meh if it ends it ends.

I really think just because something is long it won't get washed out unless you have people with a soul working on the movie. I see G5 being a sequel anyways. FiM has actually given MLP iconic characters I don't see going away from pop culture.

Well there are still alot of things missing on the show. I don't think it should end right away without a Celestia episode, or a Spike story-arc (or basically a story-arc for the rest of the Mane Six that don't have them yet like AppleJack, Pinkie, or Fluttershy), or Rainbow Dash officially becoming a Wonderbolt (which is likely to happen in season 6 anyway, I think). Obviously we're not getting EVERYTHING we want, but at least the important things should come before the show ends. Otherwise people like me would be left unsatisfied with the show ending, much like The Clone Wars or My Name is Earl.

If they can keep writing quality stories with wonderful songs, why not keep it going? I think it's silly to say "But if they keep going, the quality may someday drop." Just worry about that if it happens.
