Is Sonata Overrated?

So I have been looking around the web, and almost every corner I turn like 4chan (I go there), YouTube comments, Deviantart, and even on Skype, they always have 1 thing in common and that is seeing at least 1 or 2 people call Sonata overrated. I personally think she is overrated to an extent but honestly she is my favorite Dazzling/Siren of all of MLP and also my favorite Equestria Girls Character. So what do you guys think about Sonata? Fairly Rated? Underrated? or Overrated? I think only a VERY few things about her like the taco thing kind of goes too far most of the time. So what do you guys think?

At this rate it's safe to call anything you dislike overrated.

 

Sonata is definitely one of the more popular characters within the fandom, but I'd say that all of that love is well deserved. It's nice to have a villain that's ditzy and seemingly polite to other people. She has also made some of the best jokes of Rainbow Rocks (Taco Tuesday <3). She may not be the most fleshed out character or has had much screen time, but I've found her to be delightful and a nice contrast to Adagio and Aria. If people dislike her, then that's perfectly fine too. I'd say let people like/dislike whatever character.

I try to avoid considering things overrated. It seems to me an extension of "your opinion is different from mine so you're wrong" and I don't quite understand why popularity of a character should result in you automatically hating them (though someone once stated that Angel was overrated but I see people more often hating him than liking him so I question people's judgement of what should be overrated anyway). You could argue any character from MLPFIM is overrated.

Naah, I don't think she's overrated!

 

My favourite Dazzling is Aria and it's a shame she gets so overshadowed by Sonata (just compare the amount of fanart the two get!)... But damn, I still appreciate the Taco girl! XD I love her colour scheme and her outfit, there's just something about her design that makes her really appealing. 

 

I'm working on a Sonata sculpture, by the way! Hopefully I'll be able to finish it during my holiday break!

Personally, I don't think she's overrated(I really fucking hate that word), I just wish the other Dazzlings got some more out put by fans, especially Aria

Define "Overrated". She is incredibly popular, so I can see why people would say she is overrated, but it's more of a buzzword these days. She's cute and amusing but not my favorite Dazzling. She's probably going to be flanderized as much as Derpy when/if she reappears again. She said Tacos ONCE, now she is the Taco-Girl......

The only thing overrated or overly exaggerated about Sonata is her "obsession" with tacos. Other than that, she's perfectly fine. She's ADORABLE! C'mon, who wouldn't want to give Sonata a hug?

I'd say most things a fanbase becomes obsessed with is overrated. And to be honest I can understand why this is with Sonata a lot more then I can derpy hooves.

Not really, but I would like to see the other Dazzling get some love.

 

IMO the Dazzlings are quite possibly one of the more sophisticated villains I've seen on the show.

 

But yeah, I feel like we see a lot of Sonata love but not so much of the other two. It's understandable, though; Sonata is so funny and is a fountain of memes, as TV Tropes would call her.

I've said it before, but I have no problem repeating myself: overratedness is a matter of individual opinion. Anyone can say that anything they don't like is overrated. Really, you don't need to justify not liking something with that.

 

I do not like Sonata, or any of the Sirens, but I know that others do for their own reasons. Let them. It doesn't affect me whether or not Sonata is liked or disliked.

She's a little over rated, but keep in mind being over rated DOES NOT mean that they aren't STILL good, just not AS good as they're made out to be, yeah? Its like saying "that jet is over rated it can only go mach 2 instead of mach 3", its still a fast jet.

 

 

Anyways, Sonata's a really good character and absolutely vital to the siren's dynamic. She functions as a nice comedy relief for the group while still fitting in 100% as a being useful to them and capable at her job: She's 100% willing to do her magical job without hesitation and is good at it. So even if she's ditzy, she's still effective and capable at her job.

 

This makes her a really good villain IMO. After all, being ditzy doesn't make your actions not evil, it just makes the character rather childish and selfish. Which works very well for a villain.

Sonata is absolutely adorable, I love her design and her personality is a very nice contrast to the other two sirens. 

 

However her little "taco tuesday" thing is definitely not??? that funny??? 

I personally don't get whats so SUPER HILARIOUS about it, it''s almost as bad as the whole muffins thing with Ditzy Doo or whatever you want to call her. 

 

(It lowkey just reminds me of Gir from Invader Zim and how all his one liners are over used. It's that lolsorandum sort of humor that isn't that great in my opinion)

Sonata is great for what she is. Comic relief in the villains. Taco Tuesday is adorable. A lot of her humor comes from the reactions of her fellow sirens. She wouldn't work on her own as a character, but neither would Aria or Adagio.

She's not a background character, I know, but she's not really a main character. My mind was on other stuff. Now that I think about it, did she even have many speaking lines? She was more of a follow-the-leader side villain, who was hardly a villain at all, save for when the other Dazzlings told her to do something/made her dance in their choreographed musical bits.

I think Sonata is popular for the similar reasons Fluttershy and Pinkie are. And no, I don't consider her overrated at all.

 

She's my favorite Dazzling too, and I just love her randomness and adorableness. I don't think she's evil at all, she just loves her friends, and that's why she does all she can to be with them.

Sonata is one of the MLP characters (FIM and EQG) I like the least.

Except the fact that she enjoys to be evil, she has nothing what I think is interesting.

I personally see her more as an annoyance that holds the Dazzlings back...not much but at least a bit.

So yes, I think Sonata Dusk is overrated.

She's a great character, but yeah she is. I really don't see what people see in her, same with Trixie. They're one off villains (well, Trixie was when she first gained popularity) who really didn't do anything special. Oh well, I guess that's why they call it phenomenon.
