I, personally, am okay with either. It's whatever they prefer.

My only real gripe about the term "pegasister" is the "pegasis" portion of it which makes it sound like the group is all pegasi (which, of course, I know is not true).

Clever, sure. But it doesn't sound all too inclusive of those who view themselves closer to unicorns or earth ponies and/or it seems a bit unfitting.

I think it's just easier if you dont try to understand the English language. I was born and raised with it, and I don't get it half the time. There was a point when "bro" meant brother, and would generally only be applied to males, but now I see people *cough*PewDiePie*cough* who call everyone "Bro" even girls. While Pegasister does sound rather clever, I was impressed when I first heard it, I think it's completely up to everyone to what they want to be referred to.

Haha, I always try to understand things, but I'll try to follow your advice.

Oh yes, I agree pegasister do sound pretty good, though I prefer to call myself brony... I don't really know why.

Brony. Don't get me started.

Pegasisiter is simply ugly sounding. Plus, it segregates the fandom, which is bad for one thing.

Being a girl, I prefer to be included in the fandom just as much as anyone else.

There is another way of saying it and that is a Pegasis.  Plenty of girls like the term Pegasister, some don't.  I think it's all in the air to be honest. I think Pegasis sounds better though.

I for one would be a brony, since I am a guy

Pegasis sounds a bit too much like Pegasus so there might be some confusion there. :P

Though it does sound nicer, a few bronies do actually refer to themselves as the race of pegasus.

Eh, I'll switch between the 2. Sometimes I'll call female bronies Pegasisters, and sometimes I'll just call them Bronies. Personally, I like Brony better for both, but I know some people prefer the term Pegasister. Or do they? Either way, I say both.

Well my gf perfers Pegasister, not sure why but it might have more to do with the fact that every character she likes (except AJ) is a pegasus.

A girl being a brony is fine by me, but usually I'll call you pegasister, just to poke fun at you :P

Generally, people know the term "Brony" better than Pegasister, so I prefer bronies to pegasisters.

These are both all self-labels. It makes me annoyed when people make a big deal about what fans are called. They should just be called fans and nothing more, girl or boy.

i hate both words, and dont even consider myself a "brony" just because im into ponies. i consider myself a "Equestriast" which is my take on being a pony purist.

brony is just too close to a "bro" lifestyle (you know the types) or brownies, which are tasty treats.

It's Always been Brony= male MLP fan and Pegasister= Female MLP fan. *WARNING UNPOPULAR OPINION* I think its idiotic for the females to say they are Bronies since it was always a male term to begin with. Female fans were the original target audience so when the guys started showing up they were coined Bronies. Then the Feminists got offended that they didnt have a special name so then they called themselves Pegasisters. Then they got jealous that bronies were getting more attention so the insisted on being called bronies.

I agree there's a reason male fans of the show are called bronies. Girls don't have to refer to themselves as pegasisters. But the brony term exist simply because there are men who enjoy the show.

brony = bro + pony is for me gender-neutral... I use brony and pegasister, in public topics and depending on who I am talking to, but before I do I usually ask what the person likes better... the term brony just sounds more right to me than the term pegasister, dunno, maybe it´s just me...

I would just call everyone brony, I mean, we don´t have to separate, do we?

I mean, I know guys and girls I would consider as bros, less in the "brother" = "manly" way, but more in the "really good buddy, awesome person to hang out with" way...

the term brony might be especially for men enjoying my little pony: friendship is magic, but, like I care, I don´t need to point that out xD

i believe the term "brony" was originally meant to be a gender neutral not just for one or the other, i dont care if girls use it go ahead its fine. the guys who cant accept that its a gender neutral term will just have to deal with it

I've always thought of brony as gender neutral. Even when I first learned what a brony was. Then I start seeing pegasister, and I get a bit confused. I just prefer to call all fans of MLP a brony. But it just kind of comes down to preference really. To each their own.

Brony kind of ended up a blanket term for any member of either gender who's a part of the fandom. So everyone can be identified as a Brony however some people would prefer Pegasister, doesn't really matter which one they say because in actuality they both apply.

Well, it's sort of counter-intuitive, because "Brony" as in "Bro + pony" and "Bro" as in "Brother", and it would make sense for the term Pegasister to be used, but people can call themselves whatever they want to, I'm not going to deny anything from anyone, it just seems a bit of an extent to me.

I'll get used to it. I'm cool with both names.

We could always change it around so each refers to a gender, Brony for males, Pegasister for females, and the blanket Unisex term for both genders will simply be Unisexicorn XD lol.

Brony can be used for both genders. Pegasister is just for girls, but brony can be used for them too. Think of it this way. It's kind of like the words 'homosexual' and 'lesbian'. Sorry for that horrible example, I don't mean to offend anypony but that's the only thing I can think of. XD Sighs, need to go back to school and study up on English...

Also, brony is much easier to say.

  • 1 month later...

I've always been okay with Brony for us too -- it feels like that word has evolved from being just "Bro-Ponies" to being more conceptual and gender-neutral.

I _wanted_ to like "Pegasister"... but... too many syllables... it doesn't feel like it flows easily off the tongue.

This is the first time I've heard "Pegasis," and I've got to say, I really find myself loving this word!   I'll have to think about it more, but I think I like it! :D

I prefer to be called a brony, but pegasis is pretty cute too. I don't use the term "pegasister" because it sounds a bit odd with the extra syllables. I also like to call the target audience of the show "fillies" for some reason lol

Whatever the hell they want to be called is fine with me, some want to be called brony some pegasister some don't care either way and I have to admit I haven't heard of any of these others but again whatever they want is fine with me.

I refer to myself (and other female fans) as a "Pegasister" when talking to other MLP fans, and refer to myself as a "Brony" when talking to those who may not know what the term "Pegasister" means.  "Brony" gets your point across more.

On a sidenote, I don't feel that referring to oneself as a "Brony" or any variant thereof should be anything to be ashamed about.  But then, being female, when I tell people that I'm a fan of MLP, they're usually like "well, you ARE the target audience, if several years older."

But still - let no one but yourself tell you what you should or should not enjoy.

I generally prefer Brony for myself but I think that Pegaasister is fine, too. I think it depends on what the person herself wants, some prefer Brony, some prefer Pegasister. But Brony's easier to say, so usually people go for that.
