My favourites are:

 

Trouble Shoes -- he looks realistic, closer to a cute Clydesdale stallion.

 

 

Double Diamond -- the only truly white-coloured pony in the show (others white-coloured ponies have at least one different colour, such as Rarity's purple mane and Bulk Biceps' yellow mane), and his shining colour makes me imagine him as either Shadowfax from Lord of the Rings, or a living star in a horse's body.

 

 

Party Favor -- that "face of ultimate (un)happiness" that he likes to make. It is as though he's saying "Yay, I'm so, VERY happy, that I'm the happiest horse in the world!" as he makes that happy face.

 

 

Fleur Dis Lee (EqG) -- though snobby, her beautiful face makes her stand out from the Crystal Prep crowd.

 

 

They sometimes inspire me to write stories or create ideas for stories.

Hmm, most of my favorite Background ponies are new ponies. I listed a few of my favorites here. To be honest, I like the new ponies a little bit more than the old ponies because the new ponies have such unique and amazing designs. I find it also a little bit sad that the new ponies don't have so much attention as the old ponies. 

 

From the old one, I like Amethyst Star, Minuette, Carrot Top, Lyra, Bon Bon and Derpy.

god damnit @JU88snow, i was goin do that ... but you do have a point, AJ is best background pone, but if she dont count (which i kno she wont ) then ill say Carrot Top, I love her backstory and her personality to the point where i wanted to write a grimdark fanfic about her (i lost the files because they became corrupt, so yea, i ditched that cool project sadly)

Derpy Hooves! She is like the princess of muffins hey that's something I can draw! And I think Derpys personality is just so lovable. Yeah she's kinda clumsy but aren't we all at one point? Go Derpy! But Octavia would have to be my next favorite. I mean come on! A pony who can play a cello with out the use of magic or some sort of finger device? That's impressive.

Out of the ponies listed, I love Bon-bon's cute appearance! She's precious, and I just want to huuug heerrrr.

 

My favorite though, is Cheerilee! As the crusaders once sang...

 

Cheerilee is sweet and kind~! She's the best teacher foals could hope for~!

 

As someone who loves children and is considering going into childcare, Cheerilee always inspires me to treat all kids with care and attention, taking into account their individual needs.

If I would have to pick one from this list it's Derpy Hooves. My second choice would be either Vinyl or Lyra. But actually I love them all.
