gaming Things in games that makes no sense but they keep doing it

We all know there is one of those things they keep putting in games even though feasibly in a logical sense makes no sense. Here's an example and been bothering me for a while. Note this does not include magic or other things that is along the rules of that universe and isn't made to look like it could happen in real life.

Rocket Jumping. Come on seriously how is this possible?

Could this really work? -_-

Nearly any platformer ever. Why are there just random chunks of land floating in the sky, moving up and down or back and forth? Why are there random collectibles like coins, bananas, rings, etc just spinning around in the air?

There are a lot of weird crap in video games, like that Rocket jump. Just accept it's somehow possible within the realms of that universe, despite the fact that it's physically not possible in our world, and you're gold. Video game physics do not have to line up with real world physics.

Regenerating health. How exactly can I take several bullet shots to the face and body or get hit with a giant sword, only to just stand behind cover and be magically healed entirely? :o Maybe it is nanobots. I guess a lot of game universes just have those readily available.

It does need to be believable at least here's an example.

Or at least make it a reference to something.

It does need to be believable at least here's an example.

That game's problem to me isn't that it seems unbelievable, as much as it seems overly complicated and badly designed. It's fine for a game to have really strange rules and physics, the important thing is for them to be fun, and for those rules to remain consistent within the game itself. I'd play a game with weird logic like that, long as it was fun and designed well.

My favorite game is about a kid fighting demons and insects in his basement by launching his own tears at them, like a Twin-Stick shooter. Launching your own tears makes no sense, and monsters being harmed by them makes no sense. But the physics and rules in the game stay consistent (At least until you grab a power-up that changes them.)

I mean, really, what games are believable? Is Sonic the Hedgehog believable? Kirby? Zelda? No, not really. If you apply real world logic to them with the expectation they follow, they will fall apart. Some games are way stranger than that, and fall apart even faster, but that's the great thing. Real world logic need not apply.

I didn't make this topic to debate about it (seriously every topic here becomes debating), but feel free to continue, I'm just going to see if anyone has a similar experience as I do.

Nah, I'm not going to keep debating it if you don't want. I don't have a problem with pointing out instances of weird, silly stuff in games in a joking manner, but taking it seriously like real world physics are required kinda takes the fun out of things.

Tails from the Sonic games can fly because he can spin his two twin tails like helicopter blades to lift himself off the ground, which is utterly ridiculous, but it's cartoon logic in a cartoon game so whatever. Knuckles on the other hand can apparently glide because he can trap air in his dreadlocks, or something like that. It's the weird "Sciencey" Mumbo-Jumbo explanation here that makes me find Knuckles ability more hilarious, how do Dreadlocks do that? If you cut them off could he then not glide?

Belts and Zippers out the ass in Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. It's like they try soooo hard to look cool and they just end up looking stupid

Regenerating health.

This, I was never a fan of regenerating health, to me it just breaks the tension of defending yourself while trying to look for health packs, not to mention it just feels like a cheap substitute for it. Personally, Halo CE and MoH Airborne were the only games to get it right

How come we're not discussing the kind of armour that pretty much only covers female character's nipples and crotch and yet is somehow supposed to protect her body from knives and bullets?

Equipment you can carry with you

In old games, you can everything with you, so if I can carry feeled 20 weapons at same time, why not millions of bullets?

Later games make more sense, but same problem here.

In Uncharted you can carry a small and a big weapon at same time. But of course the feeled hundreds of treasures you find, no matter size, can be carried the whole game XD

Or the "I can't do that, so I need to go trough the enemy loaded area to continue"

@cider float, don't blame rocket jumps, they are just so useful... :(

Anyone who has played Just Cause knows a few good examples.

  • Always being able to deploy a parachute, even multiple times during the same free-fall
  • Being able to shoot meters of heavy chain out of your glove-thing without breaking your bones
  • Carrying unlimited bombs

I could go on, but I won't.

But I could. :dash:

In most cases it doesn't bother me. If the results provide more fun than if it was realistic, then I'm completely ohke with it.

Actually I guess I overreacted, I think it is important to talk about them some might find them passable and some might think wtf.

When you get hit and the health regen isn't available. And so you're walking around with 4 health. And you're perfectly fine. Until you fall a metre and die.

I mean seriously if you're down to 4 health you're probably going to be staggering, unable to move and calling for help.

I remember this one point in mass effect 2 where you're going through an area of Omega that has plague and you can go around looting.  Then, you meet these one guys looting an apartment and your Shepard has the option of saying how "low" it was for them to steal other people's stuff.  Like, seriously?  How many places have you looted up to this point, Shepard?

I don't really get how it's ok for your character(regardless of game) to loot people's houses or corpses but when you catch someone else doing it, it's not okay.  Seriously?

I think a lot of things in video games make no sense, but that's the point, they're video games, they don't have to make sense.

Regenerating Health in modern FPSs, it's so cheap and stupid.

Also, rocket jumping isn't really in a whole lot of games. Mostly Quake and TF2.

I only know from Horror Games, that countless Weapons, health packs and energy drinks are just laying around everywhere...who put them there?

Also, some Racing Games put some racing cars in the middle of the racing track before the race starts, instead of in the beginning, so that the race will be harder for the player, even though it makes no sense, because starting somewhere in the middle of the road should be illegal.

Also in Worms, everything can float. Like, if you shoot the entire under half of a building away, the rest of it, still stays there.

Thats all i can think of.

Mentioning above the items laying in unusual places. Sometimes I wonder "How can that beeing here logically?!"

MGS2 for example, you find a tranqualizing sniper riffle ... in a airshaft ... why should a guard throwing it in there? Same for ammo and stuff.

Bossfights ... hey look, exactly what I need is nearby!

Bug type pokemon should be weak to water. Bugs have always got very injured/killed whenever we ran water over them...lol

Aka "LadyPKchu".

I changed my name again cuz lately fluttershy has been more my favorite pony :3 I like her innocence, and I think I may get active in the fluttershy fan club. I really like a lot of the other main 6 too though.

I'm also a FlutterDash supporter.

I still love Korrina from pokemon a lot and plan on keeping my Korrina profile for now :P
