What happened to the original civilization that came before Equestria?

Remember the civilization from Hearth's Warming Eve that came before Equestria? What do you think happened to it?

I assume you're talking about the one that was abandoned to the Windigos. It's probably what they call the frozen north in "modern" Equestria.

I suppose that place is worth a look. Would be interesting if it's also another hallowed location like the Tree of Harmony and hold "something" epic there.

Actually the area they came from wasn't horrid before they started fighting with each other.

 

Plus the windegos wouldn't stay in an area without ponies.  If the entirety of the ponies left, I'd figure the windegos would move on as well.

 

Hence I'd say it would be temperate lands but not nearly as fertile as equestria.

 

I'd be tempted to put it in the undiscovered west actually, making it less undiscovered than forgotten.
