music Do you have a song you like to listen to when you're sad and/or depressed?

Hey guys,

I've been wondering what are some good songs (popular music or not) to lift you up when you're depressed/sad, and why you think so?

I like this song, called Home, by the band Blue October. While I see it being about happy the singer is with his relationship, I can see some lyrics about how he's happy with life, and how he keeps his friends and family around to live a good life - in fact, it's not just those two things, but just looking forward to whatever life brings.

What about you?

First of all- I love your profile pic. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

A friend introduced my to Blue October a while back, actually! I'm not all too familiar with their music but I like what I've heard very much. Personally I tend to listen to a lot of alternative xD most of which is twenty one pilots, but... their older songs. Not that I don't love the new ones too. I guess that's because I can relate to the lyrics, but there's something encouraging about that, and the music itself energizes me. But let's be honest, music in general just makes things hurt less, am I right?

I usually listen to Sting's or Elvis's songs.  Speaking of Sting, I gonna listen to 57th & 9th.

A state of depression or sadness most often means a slip in the internal strength and conviction that God is bestowing tests and trials upon me, and that he is not hating me or punishing me without cause. In many cases, I try to listen to songs that remind me of God. Mostly Arabic religious acapellas. Here's a nice one:

“All Muslims are like a foundation, each strengthening the other; in such a way they do support each other.” (Abu Musa, Bukhari & Muslim)

“Say: He is God, who is One. God, the Eternal. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him.” (Chapter 112, Qur'an)

Sometimes when I feel sad I listen to some My Little Pony song like "Magic inside of you," "The Pony I Want to be," "Out on my own," or "I've got to find a way."

So I got a few songs in mind I can refer to.

Undertale.

The theme is called Undertale and it IS from the game with the same name.

I love that game. I like all of their songs, but one of my favorites is the battle theme.

Home of the Blues by Owl City. Been listening to it almost constantly.

It has been pointed out to me that this is a cover song. Nevertheless, I prefer the Owl City version.

I love owl city. I don't know which of their songs I like the best, but they are awesome.

I wouldn't say there's a song per say that I listen to whenever I'm feeling down, but listening to the music of Alter Bridge on shuffle has gotten me through many a dark time. While their lyrics and song tone may appear quite bleak at times, many of their songs are inspirational and inspiring and fill me with good spirits. When I put alongside the fact that the heaviness of their material can also will me on to forget about all my troubles while air guitaring, head banging and singing to my hearts content, it surely does the job.

I can safely say their songs have saved me from a few suicidal moments in the past, all the while offering great reflection at the same time.

oddly enough, if i am sad or depressed, I tend to listen to music that matches my mood at the time. I listen to songs that are equally depressing or dark and I think the reasons for this is it gives me a feeling that I am not alone on that feeling and even those in the music industry feel the same way at times.

This song is a really good example as it centers around self hatred, which is something that the songwriter deals with:

Yep. I seem to have a special connection to "Come as you are" by Nirvana. Usually feel better after blasting the guitar solo a few times

Tender by Blur. I stumbled across it by complete accident in the aftermath of a breakup and fell in love with it immediately.

When I'm really depressed, I also love...

Down by Blink-182

Shadow Of The Day by Linkin Park

Let Down by Radiohead

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails

Death And All His Friends by Coldplay

And a bunch of others,,,
