Spike being raised by ponies was for the best?

Fans I've seen on YouTube can be really well, foolish.

They makeup stories about how Spike is a slave or was stolen as an egg and used.

Well first of all none of that is true.

And second

Spoiler

Molt Down pretty much proves current dragon culture is very ,well, toxic. The second a dragon molts they are kicked out and they are on their own. Also it proves Dragons grow naturally and greed growth is not natural and makes you dumb and weaker then a natural grown giant dragon(oh and that dragons are born wingless) I can see why Ember is all for this Friendship school and reforming dragon culture.

This also makes MLP friends forever comic with dragon town officially non canon.

So all in all, Spike was spared a terribly lonely life.

Because people are naturally stubborn to admit they are wrong.

I agree. That has been a foolish discredited meme for years now!

I feel like that shouldn't be even remotely up for debate. Clearly, being raised by ponies was WAY better for him than it would have been if he were raised by his own kind.

He'd have been abused from birth by his own kind, and might have become like or worse the Garble.

Spoiler

I can see why Smolder was sent to Friendship School. To help spread it into dragon culture and eventually replace it. Which is a good thing.

I've had my own theory that Spike's parents were actually kind and could have raised him to be kind, unlike other dragons, but circumstances forced them to give up his egg, or he would have perished with them.

Sadly,

Spoiler

A synopsis for a late Season 8 episode reveals that Spike's father might be alive and a jerk, or at least some dragon claiming to be his father! I hope it isn't true.

I doubt its his real father. Though why is this dragon faking it?

What? *looks it up* Ah, leaks...

Spoiler

Spike gets wings? Bummer. I was kind of hoping he’d stay wingless. Dragons don’t HAVE to have them. Just look at asiatic dragons. But at least this came out before I committed to it in my Next Gen verse.

Also...

Spoiler

I don’t know what’s going on here, but it has Celestia and the new bebes and I need it in my life right NOW...

People thought Spike was a slave? Wow. I never thought of him as a slave or even stolen as an egg. I think his real family gave him up and Celestia or the Royal Guards found his egg and thought of having a special pony raise him. Maybe they thought ahead on this. Maybe they wanted to have somepony raise him so that he could finally end the feud between Dragons and Ponies. Maybe that's what Celestia had planned for him.

That's my thoughts.

I do think him being raised by ponies is an AWESOME thing! It's just, the writers probably should've done a better job with it at the very beginning! And there are a few ways how they could've done that:

1. DON'T MAKE HIM A PUNCHING BAG CHARACTER! I mean seriously, they pick the one most common non-pony character, and yet all the slapstick humor gets put on him. I'm looking at YOU seasons 4 and 5!

2. In Dragon Quest, he should've just said "I don't know if I'm more dragon, or more pony, all I know is that I'm Spike, and that's all that matters to me!" it would've been more inspiring than him just saying "I'm a pony, I don't care about my origins!"

3. He should've been closer with Twilight's family! It woulda made alot more sense if he didn't care about his origins if he had a family that was always there for him, and some kind of brotherly bond with Shining Armor!

4. Had more episodes with him not in with the mane cast. Yes, I know there was a ton of episodes where he wasn't with the Mane Six, but they didn't give Spike a personal life until season 4 where it turned out he liked comics, and then season 5 where he hung out with Big Mac. This kind of stuff should've happened in the beginning. It looked like they were gonna have Snips and Snails be Spike's friends, but that didn't happen.

Whatever, what's done is done, and there's still alot more to do with him, if the writers can focus more on him in the incoming seasons and not cheat him out like they did in season 7! So yeah, being raised by ponies showed alot of potential and having Spike be the most interesting character in the whole show! But all they did in the beginning was make him a comic-relief punching bag. Such a waste. They coulda did so much more, and then Spike wouldn't be in a tight spot like right now when the show is almost over and not all his questions are answered.

Not really; it (complete with one background-Dragon who looked almost-exactly like Mina) was in one of the newer comics, which take more of an effort to be consistent with the show.

And for all we know, the Dragons who live there aren't fond of "Kick your kids out as soon as they molt," either.

Spike has it made compared to most in the dragon kingdom.

Dragons grow into giants, the ones in dragon town had adults whop were human size and adults, plus the baby had wings, where in molt down we learned dragons are born wingless. It's non canon and I'm happy it is because the writer is a cry baby.

But deny it if you wish.

Dragons come in different shapes and sizes, and any baby-looking Dragons with wings in Dragon Town could just be recent molters.

After all, Spike gets wings at the end of Molt Down, yet doesn't look any older.

I've seen a lot of that in this very forum regarding other topics

Anyway, even if the dragon culture wasn't toxic, there's the issue of a dragon egg ending in pony hooves. Still, ponies are ponies, and I don't think it was taken away from his parents. Maybe it was lost, or abandoned, and ponies just happen to find it. Anyway, everything points out Spike was better of with ponies

He is everything but a slave though. He enjoys his life, and if he wanted to leave, he could. Just look at the time he went to the dragons. They let him go.

They were worried though and they will still look after him if he left, but he is free. He gets his meal, money and friends, and also power from being close to Twilight. This is all he needs I think

Twilight was even like, "Hey, you wanna come with? You're family, too," in Once Upon A Zeppelin.

Exactly. The theory of Spike being slave was earlier of course, but this is sure an indication Spike is more then a slave. Just think about it. He is one of the most powerfull persons in Equestria. He is ambassador for the dragons and is the number one assistant of the princess and the hero of the Crystal Empire.

People tend to ignore him being absent from that reunion was voluntarily :dash:

Butt-Monkey moments aside, this is practically his life's theme song:

With an episode like Spike at Your Service, this just says that Spike can go overboard on his servant mentality, duties, or need to be with the ponies.
