How do some ponies get money

Maybe Equestria is the biggest working socialism you've ever heard. But then, how rich ponies are capable of paying such big taxes or... Shouldn't money lose it's value, becasue it's maked by magic or... anything reason... else? I state, that Equestria is socialism in pure form and ponies who likes to work, work for the society, especially after your argument.

Twilight was still celestia's star pupil and protegee,so she's probably in some kind of scholarship, i guess her taking care of the library was the exchange for living in it, she also helps the town with tons of stuff so maybe she makes some bits from such tasks aswel, fluttershy has an animal shelter, and an orchestra with them, so i really don't see why she wouldn't make money for it

This is kind of the impression I got. I suspected that the need for currency may have already vanished (and there's no hint of taxation which if we're honest, is the only real reason for money to exist in lieu of oldschool trading). I kind of wonder if perhaps it used to be a bigger deal but has lost it's hold on society (remember, the value of a coin is purely symbolic; if we lose our confidence in its power, it becomes meaningless). So if socialism has taken over, it's easily possible that some Ponies are stubborn holdouts, or are still trading coin out of habit or tradition. But it's not needed.

Actually if an Earth government decided to put an end to money (without outright outlawing it) this is how I would expect to see things unfold. Some people would keep using it like nothing had changed. Others would embrace the new way of living and run full speed with it.

I was thinking that when I thought about how expensive Fluttershy's wildlife refuge would be (both versions of it), with big-time professional contractors involved but no hint of payment.

I know a lot of people who don't work but have money. :okiedokieloki:

This is so true, that I laughed.

Getting back to ponies, that were mentioned, I agree with comments above.

Twi was a librarian, she also helped with organizing things very often. Not mentioning studying under Princess Celestia's wings. I'm pretty sure she took care of her, or at least simply rewarded her for what she has done.

Fluttershy though, I kinda find it hard to imagine her asking for money, as what she does is because she just loves animals. She wouldn't refuse to help an animal in need. But I do want to believe, that somehow she gets paid for that, as she deserves that. Also other than that, she quite often takes care of music in various ceremonies etc..

Fluttershy is shown to help with all sorts of issues with peoples pets and organize animals for shows. She is going to make her living there

Twilight was a student at first and thus likely cared for by Celestia. Then she was the libraries caretaker and as a pony says in the bugbear episode she became the main organizer for Ponyville. So that is where she makes her living.

This is so not true. How many PC repairs is an SUV worth? How many loaves of bread is a roof job worth? What if I hate bread and that is what you have to trade? Do you want to pull a Trade ya and be running all over town for what I do want? No money exists as a store of value that we can all trade for goods with set prices that we can more or less depend on. It makes it so the baker does not have work forever to get a house or that the land owner can get more then PC repair if they rent to a PC repair tech.

I think Fluttershy gets government money for being involved in environmental care. But while she does go shopping now an again in the show, I think she’s also mostly self sufficient. We know she has a chicken coop, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I saw a little garden around her house at some point in the show.

Twilight ran the Library, and libraries are usually run on a combination of local and government money.

They wanna get money? They gotta shake that moneymaker. :maud:

Lmao at all the socialism comments. Fluttershy clearly has a job taking care of those animals for other ponies, or else she wouldn't have been forcing Zephyr Breeze, her brother, to get a job. Twilight wouldn't have been working under Celestia as her star pupil if she had no plans to do something with what she learned for a living, and being a princess, a ruler of something, is in itself, a job. :P

Maybe social dotations aren't enough for normal living, as in Poland, for example (not counting 500+ program)? :mustache:

I always wondered how they made money. I think fluttershy is paid for caring for the animals and Twilight is paid for taking care of the library. Rainbow dash is paid for being a wonderbolt and Rarity has 3 boutiques so she makes plenty of money. Apple jack has her farm and makes money in that sense.

So Pinkie Pie is getting paid for organising parties? That would be logical.

My point was it's a 'house of cards' though, which is where the obsession with the gold standard comes from with some people, though I find that equally silly considering that gold being treated as the most valuable metal began at a time when it had not a single practical use. And it has also led to a detachment from the true value of items. Pleasantries are often worth more than necessities, which we wouldn't be seeing in a barter system. And I don't mean minor fluctuations, I mean that a farmer (yeah, without them, we starve to death) can barely afford to survive, while an athlete lives better than a king. The end of barter and haggling has taken nearly all control of the economy away from the consumer. Can you imagine going into a store today and actually having the "right" to try to knock the price of a hammer down by a buck or two after talking with the salesman for a while?

Oops I forgot her but yes a party organizer is a paid job.

Certainly not the way she does it. Her party planning center is built like the bat cave and there's no hint that she often approaches anyone about having a party before setting one up. Which would put her more in line with a "protection agency." Boom, in your face, surprise party at your house that cost $10K to prepare. Next day... evil glaring Pinkie pops half-way out of your tea kettle and hands you a bill. :P

What, going to random places predetermined by fate to solve social issues between unhappy Ponies? That position wasn't even really granted her by Celestia, it came from somewhere else, almost arguably a literal deity. I don't see the Tree of Harmony footing the bill for everyday needs.

More generally though, a mage would be a trade job. Doing odd things for folks in exchange for payment, with probably some large-scale projects too.
Pegusi providing the weather are practically a utility company.
Earth ponies are the ones that are feeding the nation.

There's probably potential there for a symbiotic cycle of dependency there, which would be kind of communistic (mostly that idea popped in during the first Hearthswarming story), but clearly there's a lot more room for independence than that (Flutters barely identifies as a Pegasus and is much happier staying away from weather control and caring for the animals).
