Yea me to I’m a little upset that Starlight wasn’t in the special. But honestly this was a such a great special that I forgive Starlight absence. Well she a cameo at least but I would of like for her to have a speaking role thou. Still this special was fantastic.

I would have liked her to have a line, but after watching it again I noticed her cameo with Trixie was the two of them traveling in Trixie's wagon. So she would have had to say something right at the beginning of the episode, maybe explaining her and Trixie couldn't take part in the exchange due to their previously scheduled plans..

Do they need to be in every episode? They are only secondary characters compared to most of the rest of the other character in the episode.

Student 6 is understandable  but Starlight is a mane character.

These are the main characters like it or not. I still think I would classify here as inbetween secondary and a main character but not quite. She is classified as a "reformed antagonist" though.

She has a cute moment at the end. It was just fine considering how tight the script was and that every line served a character with almost no unneeded dialog. You add her and you sacrifice another great moment. Luna and Celstia had a scene at the end too. 

Pinkie, Fluttershy, RD, AJ, Twilight, Discord, Rarity, and Spike were all written quite well. Cadance and company were delightful. As much as I like Glim Glam, her quiet cameo was pretty sentimental considering who she chose to spend her holiday with.

I respectfully disagree that site is totally outdated. And who cares what Jim Miller thinks she’s a mane character whether you or anybody else likes it or not.

Sorry my dude, that is not how that works. That site is constantly updated so I would trust it. Though, saying she is a mane character is purely subjective. She can be in your eyes but there is no cold hard fact that she is one.

Even if they are calling Spike a main character, I hope they have a good reason for doing that. Cause he hasn't done anything "main" in the series, at least not like the Mane 6 does, unless next season they're giving him something unsuspecting that makes him feel like a main character, cause I just don't get why they call him that when he isn't treated like one.

Now I'm not saying Spike is being treated badly, he certainly has been gitting gud lately, but he feels more like a major supporting character than a main character.

That is just like calling Applejack a non-main character. There are jokes about that going around all the time but I still think he is considered one. He is Twilight's right hand assistant after all.

Exactly I think spikes only a mane character because he’s Twilights assistant and appears in most episodes. But I would argue that Starlight is more of a mane character than spike.

Is this topic really necessary? The focus is where it should be: On the main characters trying to get the Best Gift Ever for the name they drawn. The Best Gift Ever was funny, heart-felt and exciting. Like a good special should be.

But he dudn't have an element (yet?), and he still hasn't had a finale yet. Or a chapter book for that matter! Or many interactions with half the main cast. And sometimes gets left out of certain M6 stuff. Yeah Mane SIX, why not Mane Seven?

We did see them in the background via non-speaking cameos so at least they weren't outright ignored. Besides, the focus of this special was on the Mane Six and Spike given that they were having problems in terms of who to get what for Hearth's Warming. Too many characters with or without speaking parts would have cluttered up everything thus making the story bogged down.

That’s not what he’s saying he’s saying that spike should have an element and that starlight does more than him.  or else he not consider a mane character. Which I agree with.
