Popular Kids Franchises That You Werent Into?

Were there any popular kids movies, shows and toy franchises that didn't appeal to you growing up?

For example, I never was a fan of the main Disney cast. I don't really care for Mickey and the rest of the house of mouse cast. I was never into TMNT or GI Joe growing up.

I was too busy being into Looney toons to care for the former and too busy watching Power Rangers and Transformers to care for the latter.

Also I was too busy playing Star Wars games to care all that much for Mario.

Your turn.

SpongeBob. Something about that show was always very annoying to me, even the early 3 seasons which are considered good, I just never could really stand them. Didn't like them as a kid, don't like them now as an adult.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

This one is technically not kids as the main demographic, but

I never liked the Dragonball series. I found it too boyish for my liking, and that speaks volumes for me as I was a really tomboyish kid back then. I still feel the same way now.

Oooh and that and also the Sonic series. I always found the character designs to be really lame, I don't like the corny music, and I generally never liked its whole "way past cool!!!!" schtick. I always felt it just tries too hard to look cool.

Any of those "edgy" gross-out cartoons from the 90s and early 00s (Invader Zim, Cow & Chicken, Ren & Stimpy, etc.). I remember Invader Zim in particularly being a big thing and I never thought much of it.

  • Transformers. I always found the entire concept of the franchise to be rather boyish and juvenile, even when I was a kid... To be honest, I have NO idea why this has an adult audience. Heck SPONGEBOB is more mature in all honesty... Similar thing with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  • Dragon Ball. Quite literally the only bit I care for in the series is the memes, and that is it. Otherwise, it's pretty freaking bad.
  • Naruto. I knew a lot of kids that got into it, but even at my age I found it immature, and that speaks VOLUMES, because I was never a very mature kid. Heck, I used to make a joke based on My Gym Partner's a Monkey about being lactose intolerant. In hindsight, I have NO idea why I ever thought that show was anything but mediocre, and childish.
  • Anything to do with Disney. I have yet to see much good come out of Disney. I could care less for Mickey, I could care less for most of their movies honestly... Although I think Mulan and Lilo and Stitch were really good movies, I've always been much more of a Pixar fan, considering 4 out of my 10 favorite movies EVER are Pixar films...

I never got into Sponge Bob Square Pants. I've seen a total of maybe five episodes. I never found it very funny. I do like Sandy Cheeks the squirrel though. They should have a spin off where she's back in space. (That's a space suit she's wearing, not a diving suit)

To be honest, if I wasn't into it as a kid, I don't clearly really remember it. Kinda the problem for stuff that far back.

I have vague memories of my friends being into the Conan books, and not being particularly impressed with them. I was more interested in Narnia and the like.

They also were into Marvel comics, where I was DC, that kind of thing.

For me it was Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. I hear many my age talk about this show and even you series with great fondness but I just never got into it like I did other shows from my era.

Ironically, My Little Pony (the earlier generations)! I didn't want to watch such a "girly" cartoon when I was little – though I didn't feel the same way about the likes of Care Bears for some reason! :muffins:

Action cartoons didn't really appeal to me either as a kid – I did watch and enjoy a couple of them, but I generally preferred more comedic stuff.

Since I go back a long way, it would have to be some cartoons from the 1980s that just didn't appeal to me at the time. Granted, I was too young to have been able to appreciate them, and even though I can look at them now, I still don't see the appeal.

The "Golden Era" of Cartoon Network. Always grew up on Nick and I actually never had Cartoon Network until I was in 4th or 5th grade, and even then when I did have it, we pretty much made it "the anime channel" as the only thing we'd watch were the things on Toonami and Adult Swim like DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, G Gundam, etc.,  and never bothered with all of the actual CN stuff. Even the oddball shows like Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen, and Futurama got more attention than them. Only shows from CN we ever watched as religiously were Megas XLR and the old Teen Titans

Any of the Disney movies. People would give me shit if I told them that I never watched the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, etc. The first time watching the Lion King was last year... because I was at the doctors and they played it there as I waited to be called. It was meh. (I only say that not because the movie isn't good, but more like my expectations were raised high as many around me claim it to be the 'best'. Had that mentality and it was okay at best.)

Transformers. I was never really into cars or anything at all so they never really appealed to me as a kid until Beast Wars. For the most part I also don't care for cartoons that try to be gritty and gory like Flapjack. You'd also never ever ever find me watching anything live action. Even to this day most live action things don't interest me in the slightest. Animated or bust imo.
