Predictions/Hopes for Smash Ultimate DLC Characters

Pretty self-explanatory, I think. With the release of Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo has revealed that they will be introducing 5 new DLC characters over the course of 2019, with one of these having already been revealed as none other than Joker from Persona 5, so who do you want to be amongst the other five?

Keep in mind that all characters in Smash Bros were Video Game characters before they were adapted into other media, so sad to say I highly doubt we'll ever get Goku or Superman. All characters also are connected to a series that has been playable on a Nintendo Console at some point, though Joker seems to break this rule outside of a small theory I have that it's still Nintendo related since it's a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei, which has been available on Nintendo Consoles before. Characters who appear as Assist Trophies are also out, so sadly no Waluigi either. 

Some characters I want to see include: 

- Solaire (Dark Souls) 
- Django, the Solar Boy (Boktai Series)
- Blaziken (Pokemon)
- Crono (Chrono Trigger)
- Mia (Golden Sun)
- Kain Highwind (FF4)
- Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

My vague prediction on this game was:

-2 "stupid/unbelievable" character from franchise already put in the game

-2 character from an another popular franchise

-2 characters from popular indie games

-1 character from a soon-to-be-released game

For what we have now, I'm correct.

Considering Nintendo has said that 1) All characters will be complete surprises and 2) They're from franchises new to Smash, unless Nintendo has a completely new franchise coming up that they want to promote, I'm gonna go on a limb and say they're all 3rd party characters, which I don't mind both business-wise and hype wise I think it's a good idea

With that in mind, I think it'll include some of the following:
- Dragon Quest XI Protagonist
- Lloyd Irving(Tales of Symphonia,)
- Heihachi(Tekken)
- Nightmare(Soul Caliber)
- Terry Bogard(Fatal Fury)
- Sora(Kingdom Hearts)
- Travis Touchdown(No More Heroes)
- Phoenix Wright
- Jill Valentine or Leon S Kennedy(Resident Evil. Just for the love of Christ don't let it be fucking Chris)
- Banjo & Kazooie(Phil Spencer is really supporting of them, but considering Microsoft, I'm not holding my breath)
- Shantae(I know she's already a spirit but it's the very bare minimum so I hope that keeps her in the outing, not to mention I think adding an indie character would be a fantastic idea)
- Doomguy(DOOM. same with Shantae, I think it would be a really cool moment for Nintendo to put in a Western 3rd party character in the game)
- Dovahkiin(Skyrim)
- Sub Zero or Scorpion(Mortal Kombat)

 

Yeah, I know this list is nothing but 3rd parties, but given Nintendo's statements, I think the DLC consisting mainly of 3rd parties is actually the most likely scenario, with just about anyone being possible

Some characters are likely impossible due to some serious red tape that Nintendo would need to cut their way through, such as characters from Square-Enix--we only got the bare essentials when it came to Cloud and Final Fantasy VII in general--while other characters are probably out due to Nintendo's stance on other companies. I actually would like another third-party character as we can never have enough of them. Who should it be though? I'm not sure but it should be one who is completely out there in that you would never ever expect it.

As for first party characters, I feel Wario Ware and Yoshi are both long overdue for a second character. I also expect another Fire Emblem character due to Nintendo wanting to promote Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

F-Zero is due for a new character as well, especially given how the F-Zero cast could easily be mistaken for a fighting game roster.

F-Zero... I keep forgetting about it due to there having not been a new game in the series since 2004. The only character that comes to mind from F-Zero who could fit into the world of Smash would be Black Shadow. Or, maybe Super Arrow just for the fun of it.

Black Shadow and Samurai Goroh. I think the latter has earned the right to be promoted to a playable character.

Hey, if a guy like me can kick ass in Smash, pretty much anyone can be a DLC . Well, I’m actually hopping for Black Shadow, as F-Zero doesn’t even receive enough love in Smash , not to mention that another villain wouldn’t hurt either . 

Despite Fire Emblem being one of the most represented franchises in Smash, there are too many sword fighters, not to mention three of them are clones. But I realize there are many impractical characters, like horses and armored, and most infantry aren’t too important to make it in the roster. But hey, there’s a random piranha plant in the game, so that excuse may not apply anymore . Ephraim could be an easy choice being a lance user, so could be FEH’s Commander Anna, as an axe user

Nintendo may be likely to promote Dragalia Lost, so it’s possible to add Euden. Yet another sword user, but if they keep Waifu Thief as the voice actor, I won’t complain

Ness's game is Earthbound, but it's part of a series called Mother in Japan(Mother 2 is Earthbound), Mother 1 is Earthbound Beginnings and Mother 3 is Lucas's game and still Japan only

Well, the character I really wanted - Isaac - is an Assist Trophy. =(

I assume that the rest of the characters are just going to be third parties, so I'll put out the third party characters I would like to see.

• Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
• Amaterasu (Okami)
• Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney)

Of course, I don't expect any of them. Especially not Amaterasu. I feel like Okami is a series like Golden Sun that Sakurai will overlook because it's neither NES retro nor a really popular, active series, and the other two characters might have other issues. (Sora Disney licensing, Phoenix having already appeared in a crossover game)

I guess all I hope for is Banjo and Kazooie. Maybe Paper Mario as well. Most of my predictions were Assist Trophy characters and still are.

Out of the characters I want to be added as DLC, Shantae is the only one that I can really see making it into the game as she already has history with Nintendo, with her first game being released on the Gameboy color, and being a popular pick during the Smash Ballet.  I would like to see what kind of moveset the smash developers would come up with for her, as I feel that she could have one that is both fun and unique.

I feel you. I have always really despised Incineroar and seriously can not believe that of all of the Pokemon added in Gen VII they had to choose that abomination to add to this game.

The creator flat out said no characters that originated outside of video games (such as Spongebob or Goku) have a chance to be official fighters for obvious reasons. And Wreck-it-Ralph doesn't really count because he and his movie were technically meant to be a Disney film First and Foremost. Being a video game character is more an secondary thing. 

Also I'm saying this because I care about fairness to the hard-working SSB Staff: to all the guys complaining that Waluigi didn't get in as a fighter and harassed Masahiro Sakurai because of that, I am disappointed in you and do want to see that unnecessary drama from several months ago again. Even as a simple assist trophy, Waluigi's fine as is. Be grateful for that and appreciate what you got. That's the moral of the story, folks 

With that said,  I wonder if a stage based on Nintendo Labo will appear. We already have a Mii Outfit based on the Robot Kit.

Sometimes I can't tell whether people are genuinely serious or trolling when they request those two, but whatever the case I'm sick of people trying to push this shit, it's not funny or cool, and is either terrible or just straight up stupid

I don't think that the staff should be harassed. I have no idea what extent it went to when Waluigi was revealed as an AT. But... I just want to remind you when you stay stuff like "Be grateful and appreciate what you got!", you're telling people to be grateful for a product, not a gift. We spend money on the game, we can darn well criticize where we feel it went wrong.

Now, I've always thought - despite liking Waluigi myself - that him being a purely spin-off character should discount his chances for being playable, but then Ultimate happened. Ultimate included Daisy, a character who may have originated in Super Mario Land a very long time ago, but has been exclusively a spin-off character since she was reintroduced (for the first time since Super Mario Land, let me clarify) in 2000 in Mario Tennis 64. Hm... That sounds a heck of a lot like Waluigi. (But with Daisy, I do understand she is an echo character, which makes her circumstances for being added different. I still don't think she deserved it)

But we haven't gotten to the big elephant in the room yet, Piranha Plant. That addition right there made me actually feel for the plight of Waluigi fans. A completely random generic enemy was chosen to be a playable character for Super Smash Bros. Yes, we got a generic Mario enemy before Waluigi! Now that doesn't sit right with me. I don't know what's going on with the character decisions over there with Sakurai and his crew, I really don't. I'm not saying Waluigi had to be added instead of Piranha Plant, but was there seriously absolutely no character they could have made with the extra time aside from Piranha Plant? It's just the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen happen in this entire series.

I'm hoping that Banjo and Kazooie could get in since someone from Microsoft was quoted as saying they'd be okay with it. Plus they represent a history between Nintendo and Microsoft.

I wouldn't also mind an Indie game character like Quote from Cave Story getting in. He recently got a spot in an indie all star game Crystal Crisis, but I have yet to actually play Cave Story. 

Other than that, I'm not sure who else could get in. There are a couple assist trophies that could get promoted next title, but those aren't going to be DLC that easily.

Yeah -- I like Daisy and Piranha as much as the next guy, but Waluigi still got screwed by comparison.

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea on who may be included. Everything's pretty much up in the air at this point. I don't have any particular hopes, as I'm really content with the roster as it is. These characters are DLC though, so hopefully Nintendo goes all out on them and makes them worth the money. As I said, I'm already content, but there are a few faces which I wouldn't be upset seeing.

....I'm going to go back to playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now
