web Demonetization on Youtube is Now Possible Through Receiving Controversial Comments

At least they're getting more strict with CP channels. Nothing else about this is good though, literally nothing. The Youtube dream has been dead for years now. There's little hope in holding out for an alternative either, as there's no guarantee an alternative would be more protective of the rights of its content creators. The root of the problem is free speech being under attack right now, and I doubt we'll have a solution to that problem any time soon.

This is why I would never consider YouTube as a career option; modern job security is already terribly dodgy, but YouTube manages to be worse with its copyright policies alone. Either way, it is a shame that YouTube is trying so hard to become Cable Television 2.0 with its air-tight policies, which is the very thing most YouTube members sought to escape.

And here I thought demonetisation rules couldn't get any worse. It seems that YouTube is digging itself into a bigger hole, by making its rules as restrictive as possible.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I could never have my own YouTube channel. There’s too much legal BS that can get your channe shut down if you’re not careful. A music studio can flag your video just because one of their song’s is playing in the background in a store that you’re in.

The biggest offenders are music, movie, and video game studios. YouTube allows bots to flag videos for copyright just for talking about a movie, no footage from the movie, just for talking about it. Nintendo won’t allow you to show footage from their games unless you’re part of their exclusive club.

I read that one studio gave a game reviewer an early copy to review one of their games called Day One Garry’s incident. He gave it a really bad review because the game sucked. They came after him hard and copyright claimed his video of the review even after saying that he could do it.

Spoiler

YouTube is a hot mess right now and they’re only going to push more and more people away from their platform.

The worst thing is that YouTube can get away with it, due to their lack of direct competition. Sure, there are platforms such as Hulu and Netflix, but they are only so similar. YouTube is the only major platform which has independent individuals producing content for their platform, so it's not as if their creators can migrate to another platform if YouTube crosses the line for the umpteenth time.

I do hate to be pessimistic, but I imagine it will only get worse from here on forward. :pout:

Indeed, it always get worse. The lack of direct competition is what’s allowing these policies to pass. If no other platform in a similar structure comes with better policies, this is doomed to go in a deeper hole  :sunny:.

Youtube is a never ending cycle of bad decisions fueled by those in power, continued by the largest of Youtubers who are not targets of these terrible systems. It essentially makes starting on Youtube almost impossible. It is hard enough considering one of the only ways to be anything successful on the platform is by either being 100% unique which is basically impossible or by conforming to trends and fads, which is a majority of what you see in the trending sections. Makes me happy that Patreon exists, times like this reminds us how important that service is.

This is especially true with things like "youtube red" and "youtube rewind" which just come across as shallow corporate decisions made in a boardroom somewhere. Youtube will put Jimmy Fallon and James Corden on the trending page day after day, giving these TV people priority over their own content creators. It's pretty sickening

We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say.

And now they're taking down entire comment sections just because of a few people being creepy and weird in them. You know, something that totally does not happen on your average video. :mlp_maud:

They even took down Chadtronic's comment sections, a guy who just makes goofy toy reviews. Absolutely ludicrous. Youtube really is taking notes about how to run their site straight from 1984 now. :fluttershy:

I would kindly want to ask the participants of this discussion to focus on the YT part and not on the platforms of more... questionable nature.

Just a gentle slap at your hands because I do understand it was in context and so on, but really, do try to choose a more suitable replacement in relevance to this forums' nature.

I understand the removal/demonetization efforts are to combat political extremism, but this is just getting ridiculous, especially with the really disgusting things getting through just fine. Susan Wojcicki (YouTube's CEO) should just step down at this point, YouTube's not doing that great with her.
