As we get to episode six of each season.....there's a lot of mediocrity in this batch other than a few stand-outs. I can see some easy picks but who knows we may see some unpopular opinions come out of this; including myself as well.

Also interesting that half of these are Crusaders episodes too :scoots:

1. Sleepless in Ponyville - Camping, Crusaders, Creepy stories, what more could you ask for. Oh wait, also the start of some Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo psuedo-sister bonding, perfect! :sneer:

2. Common Ground - A great return for Patton Oswalt and a wonderful family message with an actual family. Plus more solid Rainbow Dash characterization.

3. No Second Prances - Yes, I actually didn't mind Twilight's characterization. I found all their interactions entertaining really. It's only held back by Starlight unnecessarily worrying others are judging her in the beginning.

4. Surf and/or Turf - the song is fun, and all the characters are great but the conflict just doesn't feel as impactful for me. Maybe it's the quick solution, maybe it's the unnecessary infighting. It's good but not great.

(And really the rest of these are just equally okay or meh with me)

5. Cutie Pox (The last act is pretty entertaining plus always fun seeing Diamond Tiara getting antagonized back)

6. Forever Filly (Sweetie Belle bias)

7. Appleloosa's Most Wanted (Crusaders bias)

8. Boast Busters (Trixie bias)

9. Power Ponies - Only near the bottom for yet another iteration of a "we respect Spike" episode that didn't need to be and for not really doing much with the superhero concept beyond the designs, and a very quick final act.

My favorite sixth episodes are:

"No Second Prances" aka the episode that made me a fan of "The Great and Powerful" Trixie.

& "Forever Filly" in which, Rarity learns to accept that her sister Sweetie Belle is growing up.

I vote for Surf and or Turf showing us how the Hippogriffs/Seaponies are doing since the movie events.

Plus, I half expected a cliche where the Hippogriffs and Seaponies were going to argue that the above or below world is better than the other, but they don't go there. It's simply Terramar thinking he had to choose one or the other when even his own parents had no problem with it.

Heck, in Character going back and forth as William the Human in our reality and Will Guide the Unicorn in Equestria, I can totally relate to Terramar.

1. Sleepless in Ponyville - First episode that started Scootalove, a sister bonding between Scoot and Dash, the first CMC dream trilogy with Luna.

2. No Second Prance - This ep introduce the best friendship of Equestria, make me feel confident about post-redemption Starlight Glimmer.

3. Power Ponies - Cool concept and great humors. They could make Twilight power more interesting but the others are amazing. I don't mind Spikabuse, it's very entertaining back then.

4. Common Ground - This ep made me respect Quibble Pants even more. Not a very entertaining episode but a great episode because of the mature subject that work for children and adults.

5. Boast Buster - A standard S1 episode, very fun to watch. If not for this ep, we would never have The Great and Powerful Trixie that we had today.

6. Surf and/or Turf - Another ep has mature subject but less entertaining to watch than Common Ground.

7. Cutie Pox - A standard S2 episode, very fun to watch. Every CMC episode that has Diamond Tiara back then is very entertaining.

8. Forever Filly - An average episode with interesting concept about growing up but it's just boring to watch.

9. Apploosa's Most Wanted - Episode with the coolest name but one of the worst of the season.

This is easily the hardest to choose. Today I picked Surf, but tomorrow I may switch to Sleepless in Ponyville. They’re each so fantastic that I don’t know if I can just choose one.

  1. Surf
  2. Sleepless (View this as 1a & 1b instead of 1 & 2)
  3. Common Ground
  4. Forever Filly
  5. Power Ponies (entertaining, but dumb)
  6. The Cutie Pox (one of the blandest episodes of the show)
  7. No Second Prances
  8. Appleoosa’s Most Wanted
  9. Boast Busters (the first of the series to be complete shit :eww:)

1. Sleepless in Ponyville- Scootaloo makes a great protagonist and her conflict with Dash is really interesting (9/10)

2. The Cutie Pox- There isn't much to this episode, but it's fun enough for what it is (6/10)

3. Power Ponies- I like the idea and there are couple fun moments, but most of the episode is pretty meh (5/10)

4. Common Ground- It's a nice premise and Patton Oswalt does a good job, but the story itself is very bland and not executed in an interesting or fun way (5/10)

5. Forever Filly- One of the least interesting episodes of the show (5/10)

6. Surf and/or Turf- The conflict with Terramar is so underdeveloped. I have no idea why the spat between Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle is here since it only serves as an excuse to fill time that could've been spent developing Terramar (4/10)

7. Boast Busters- Trixie is a little fun, but she's more annoying. Just like everything else about this episode (3/10)

8. No Second Prances- This whole story is a big mess and is a very good case for people who don't like Starlight (3/10)

9. Appleoosa's Most Wanted- It completely butchers and misses the point of cutie marks while being incredibly boring (1/10)

1. No Second Prances – the beginning of one of the greatest duos in MLP. Twilight’s expression after seeing Trixie is still one of the best moments of the show for me.
2. Sleepless in Ponyville – beautifully animated episode that gives you nothing but warm feelings.
3. Boast Busters – back when Trixie had one dot in each of her eyes. One of the first MLP “bad guys” and one of the first monsters were introduced in that episode, and also Snips and Snails got their spotlight - all this makes it stand out, IMO.
4. Forever Filly – a very important episode that showed how much things have changed and how important it is to embrace change.
5. Surf and/or Turf – it covered a serious topic and featured some interesting moments with the CMCs. A pretty solid episode.
6-8. The Cutie Pox, Appleloosa's Most Wanted, Common Ground – not the most memorable episodes for me.
9. Power Ponies – I’m just not a fan of mixing ponies with superheroes.

Oh dear. I don't like very many of these at all.

  1. "Sleepless in Ponyville" - This is a great, thoughtful take on childhood fears and insecurities, and it's probably my favourite version of the Scootaloo/Rainbow Dash friendship. And I really dig how Luna helps out in this episode and the two others that copied it.
  2. "Common Ground" - I really enjoyed Quibble Pants' earnest attempts to get the kid to like him, and related a lot to his difficulty understanding sports. And I loved that Rainbow Dash tried her best to help but still managed to learn something in the end.
  3. "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" - I'm still not 100% comfortable with how this one portrays cutie marks, but its take on self-pity is fairly mature, and it's appealingly fast-paced.
  4. "Surf and/or Turf" - I guess this one is kinda cute but to me it feels like the kind of watered-down kids' show that I expected My Little Pony to be before I first watched it. The way that the entire problem is in Terramar's head keeps this from feeling very impactful to me.
  5. "Boast Busters" - I've come to really enjoy Trixie, even this early on, but Twilight's part in this still \annoys me. It's not clear to me why she thinks using magic at all would make her like Trixie, and it's also not entirely clear to me why Trixie needed to be upstaged.
  6. "The Cutie Pox" - This episode has it's moments but I never really liked the CMC's obsession with Cutie Marks, and this seems like a particularly blatant rehash of their season 1 episodes. And then Apple Bloom seems to have learned absolutely nothing when all is said an done, which just makes this episode seem pointless.
  7. "Forever Filly" - This one just seems stodgy and formulaic to me, like they reverse-engineered the story from the moral. Rarity suddenly being so obsessed with catching up on lost time comes out of nowhere and is really annoying, and the moral is made really obvious almost immediately. I find it boring.
  8. "Power Ponies" - It's honestly kinda weird that they came up with an excuse to turn the mane six into comic book superheroes and then gave them awful costumes and cliched powers. This should have been way more creative than it is, and instead it's just a nothing of an episode.
  9. "No Second Prances" - Twilight's characterization here seems unreasonable and selfish to me, and yet I'm also not convinced that she's wrong about Starlight, especially given that in this very episode she casts a spell on Big Mac without his consent. This episode doesn't make me trust Starlight, so I can't sympathize with her self-pity.

Most of these episodes aren't really good, but here we go for Season 3's only likely victory over the other seasons. I'll start color coding these

(Green- Good, Yellow- OK, Red- Bad)

1. Sleepless in Ponyville (One of the only two actually good episodes in the horrific 3rd season)

2. Common Ground

3. Surf and/or Turf

4. Boast Busters

5. No Second Prances

6. The Cutie Pox

7. Appleoosa's Most Wanted

8. Forever Filly

9. Power Ponies (One of the worst episodes in the show, staining an otherwise consistently great season...)

  1. Forever Filly A. A genuine character portrayal with tangible relationship and a relevant issue. The lesson they learn is very straightforward and obvious, but the characters are what sells it.
  2. Boast Busters B+. It's more enjoyable when I rewatched. Trixie is such a memorable character and it's an important episode for Twilight as well. At least the dumb parts actually work and they contribute to the story. Satisfying ending as well.
  3. No Second Prances B-. It's a good and well paced episode, but I don't like Starlight being Starlight and Twilight not being Twilight. I like Trixie being Trixie.
  4. Sleepless in Ponyville B-. It's a simple story with simpme premise. There is nothing wrong done in this episode. But since Scootaloo episodes and Scootaloo - Rainbow Dash episodes are so scarce, people praise it more than I give credit for.
  5. The Cutie Pox B-. Very similar topic to Bloom & Gloom. Both are done great at portraying the character's inner struggle, but I think Bloom & Gloom was way more intense. But this one has the fable quality of early seasons that I like.
  6. Power Ponies B-. Mindless cartoonish entertainment is good, but it doesn't expand the true potential of the genre and the trope. The characters are only touched in a surface level and they should have been dealt with some depth, but not that too deep. A Dog and a Pony Show and Too Many Pinkie Pies were done better, considering they are little different cases, but they have excellent entertainment values.
  7. Apploosa's Most Wanted C. I like the idea what the CMC's can do to others, the story works. But honestly, all Apple family member episodes with someone except Applejack, Applebloom, Big Mac, Granny Smith are boring.
  8. Surf and/or Turf D. The pacing was very rough and inconsistent. The lesson might be very relevant, but a weak episode imo. Lore expansion doesn't mean horse's a$$ to me if the episode is boring.
  9. Common Ground D. A fanservice episode that is similar to why The Last Laugh was made. It is a worse episode to it's predecessor, the characters are very shallow and superficial instead of grounded and specific. Quibble didn't have to be here neither did the othets. Its purpose feels like just destroying one shipping. The idea of the story is simple, but how the whole story unfolds is inconsistent.

  1. Sleepless in Ponyville (S3) - This was just...wow. Hands down the best Scootaloo episode.
  2. Power Ponies (S4) - Fuck it, I liked this one a lot. Might be objectively bad, but I don't care.
  3. Common Ground (S9) - One of my favourites from final season. I never pictured them going with a plot like this, but it worked.
  4. No Second Prances (S6) - This was good. Gave us the Starlight/Trixie relationship, which worked way better than I could've imagined.
  5. Surf and/or Turf (S8) - Good. Seaponies are neat.
  6. Forever Filly (S7) - I liked it. Not the best Sweetie Belle/Rarity episode, but I got some fun enjoyment from this.
  7. Boast Busters (S1) - It's fine. Trixie is its saving grace.
  8. The Cutie Pox (S2) -  Like above, it's fine. Not great or anything.
  9. Appleloosa's Most Wanted (S5) - Meh. Wouldn't watch this again.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Sleepless in Ponyville, by far! First episode to actually develop Scootaloo's character, and the settings and humor were fantastic! The "sisterly" bond formed between her and Rainbow Dash was very touching.
