Feel like you missed out on a lot of the fandom?

Despite joining the fandom in early 2012, I didn't much check out anything beyond the show itself and forums like this for years. It was only mid 2017 when I actually started getting into the fan creations - the art, music, stories, merchandise, etc. Went to my first and maybe only convention this year. So I feel like I certainly missed out on much of that kind of thing for years despite being an avid fan throughout.

Thats legit me. I didn't really pay attention to much of anything fandom-sided (besides some stuff like Fluffle Puff) until just recently.

Now, to be fair, I'm not a fan of EDM music, so missing out on the fandom's music isn't that much of a hit to my psyche... x3

Hey, you’re just like my story! I joined the fandom in 2012, but wasn’t actually interested in the show until mid 2017! And I went to probably my only convention, SEAPonyCon, last year.

Funnily enough I've often thought about this. I came to the show relatively late (season 5 was almost over when I started watching the episodes in order from season one onwards) and I've often felt that I missed out on a lot. I've spent the last few years catching up on the fan-made stuff: artwork, episode reviews, reaction videos and show discussions on Youtube and, especially, the brony-made music, which has been a real revelation to me and the fan-related thing that I like best about this show.

I've occasionally wondered what it would have been like if I'd become a fan in the first season and experienced the fan phenomena of the time and sometimes I get a tinge of regret that I wasn't here then. They seem like they were interesting times and that I missed out. But really the show is bigger than the fandom, and ultimately I'm glad I got into it when I did and got to watch those first five seasons and the first three Equestria Girls movies at my own pace.

Some of that fits very well with what I like about the fandom. Yeah sure, I've missed out on watching seasons 4 - most of 9 live when the episodes aired, but so what? You can watch them, as well as fan-made videos, whenever you want as long as they aren't taken down.

that being said, however

The thing that makes me super depressed is exactly what I said: missed out on seeing things live. Episodes? not so much

But I never got to see any of the movies live / in theaters, missed out on like 95% of the conventions (some are even gone forever now like Nightmare Nights), never really had any friends to watch and discuss things with (even now this is still the case, somewhat), and worst of all:

Missed out on multiple opportunities to make new friends / loved ones. Like, if I stuck with the fandom back in 2014 (which is when I took my big hiatus mostly), I could easily be an admin / staff member on multiple pony Discords that I'm in atm, could be running some Second Life pony stuff, possibly even had a GF / waifu by now...

Sigh... Yeah. I just got into the fandom too. I wished there were mlp conventions here like you have in the US. When I was like "age appropriate" I would go to anime and comic conventions and even dress up and such but I've always been terrible for socializing and I would just wander around aimlessly, and now that I'm older it's way more difficult to form friendships just like that, or even go to those conventions because I would basically look like that "hey fellow kids" meme. That's how it works here.

I wished I could have form friendships with the fandom. I missed my opportunity again. I wished there were more people my age here that are fans too so we can reunite and have fun. Maybe that could have gotten me out of my mental problems and I would be in a better place.

I joined the fandom around 2017 even though I was an MLP fan since around 2015, so I feel like I missed out on a lot of fandom activities. There's still a lot of fan-made content coming out though and conventions, so it's not too late yet.

*totally not up to any shenanigans* :ithastolookpretty:

Obviously, I do because I joined in May last year which, correct me if I'm wrong, was a time when we already knew it was going to end. :worry: I do however feel that had I joined maybe eight years ago or something, I wouldn't have known what I actually had, it probably would've been a fad that would've blown over by now. It definitely wouldn't have saved my life, had I not been a brony. So I guess I did join at a good time. :ooh:

No, not at all. Because I'm lazy and not interested in activities anyway. :D But the end of season 9 was the best point to become a fan and a brony! The latest point is always the best point for me, because of the cultural good. It won't get lost, so it will become more and more over time. :ticking: There is a looot to discover from the past ~10 years, which makes it super exciting! :mlp_yeehaa:

I mean I only really got more involved lately and for ages I stopped watching MLP. Just joined some online conventions and like starting watching the show again.

I used to discuss mlp with a few furries though and I was a big fan of fan content lol like animations and music. And I did watch through the earlier seasons and follow the memes and documentaries blah blah.

I had a few friends who were furries who became bronies but at the time I never really deleved that deeper. And I talked about some stuff with some anime fans.

As for the big conventions closing down its sad but I doubt I would have gone anyway and there are still some left at least. I haven't even been to a furry convention as a furry not sure if I want to tho. But yeah a lot of the fan sites seem to be gone and things feel a little less lively but then again it feels like things are a more coherent whole and less daunting.

I dunno.  I started watching about three fourths of the way into 2011 (I’ve been saying early 2012 lately but I’ve had some memories I remember now that conforms I started watching the show in 2011). I kept up with the fandom a bit and stuff.  Sometimes I do wish I kept up with it a little more than I had.

I do regret not ever going to Bronycon despite all the chances I had.  But oh well I guess.

I was here through almost the whole thing. (Started watching the show in 2011, and never fell out the fandom) So I don't think I've missed out on a lot tbh.
