Will Make Your Mark (G5) be better than Friendship is Magic (G4)?

does anyone think that my little pony g5 make your mark might actually be goon in fact just as good or even better then my little pony friendship is magic, I know people said the first episode sucked but of course that was the pilot episode and a lot of the time the pilot episode to any TV show sucks, have you ever seen the pilot episode for mighty morphin power rangers. I think we should give it a chance, I think I decided I like sunny star scout, a lot of my little pony g5 is starting to look like raya and the last dragon but with ponies, you know both shows are about people being divided and having trust issues, and in the end reunite and live in harmony, I wonder if we are gonna get my little pony version of the druun.

I don’t think I’ll ever like MyM as much as FiM. However, I do agree the pilot special was underwhelming, but it was to be expected, so no big issues there. I think the problem lies in a strong start with ANG but taking forever in actually taking off G5. I’ll keep an eye on it myself as, despite being underwhelmed so far, the evil alicorn is a great teas of what’s in store

I don't think that MYM will be better or even as good as FIM because it's unlikely to have the same charm or wit that FIM gave us.

Not to mention, knowing that the ending of FIM had to be overridden for the premise of G5 to exist could consistently leave you feeling disappointed.

I think the best thing to do is to hope that G5, or at the very least the fandom, will be decent.

Also, we can hope that the future of the franchise will be decent enough to keep it from becoming less than decent.

It is kinda difficult to beat FiM. It was such an spontaneous spark of awesomeness at the right time. So, maybe the point is not to be better than FiM. But to make something that is decent on its own. So, is it good enough? I don't know. I haven't watched it, yet. And it may be a little too soon to say. Besides, as you have said, it could have been just a rough start, and it will get better in time as with many other series in the past. Or maybe its reception was in part due to the despondency from overzelous G4 fans. You know, people with emotional issues for the most part. You have to understand that MLP attracts a LOT of very "sensitive" people, if you get my meaning. So, there may be a degree of exaggeration to their reaction. Or not, and the show sucks.

Either way, it is advisable to temper your expectations. I will give it a fair chance. And if it is really bad, well. There is always FiM.

I made my own way of ending g4 about killing them, I like to think that the mane 6 was just a story that sunny starscouts father told her, and in his child hood it could have been a very popular story similar to the way we have harry potter and star wars, but it just stopped being popular as time went on in equestria, you know like goosebumps it was popular in the 90s but it kind of died out and kids in our time don't even know about it.

Especially, if Gen 5 keeps reusing the "Everypony needs to get along no matter what or the world will end!" story idea for every conflict.

Hard to tell.

The show really hasn't even started yet. Essentially two pilot episodes, a movie and a special, and a YouTube spinoff so far. Don't even know what kind of direction we're heading yet in sense of story or theme. 

FiM is special, lightning in a bottle I hear used a lot. With 9 seasons, a movie, specials, comics, etc. That's a lot to fall in love with. 

At the same time, I don't want to close it off yet. FiM came out of nowhere, MyM might too. Could spawn a new wave in the fandom, could wow us even more, could flop, who knows. 

There are things I like about Gen 5 and things I don't. However, it can still be enjoyable without having to "dethrone" FiM.

I dont think people will ever feel its better because people tend to lock onto nostalgia over objectiveness. Will it be objectively better? Is that possible with the subjectivity of art?

Rap will never catch on to the general public..... and neither will smart phones! MyM will never be as good as FiM...

 

I am always willing to give something second chances (for G5 at least, since I have given it a few already). I didn't dislike MyM pilot at all. It might get a lot better........... But it can also get a lot lot worse.

FIM also got worse, during Season 3, and didn't recover fully until Season 7, where it got worse again. But it still beats everything that G5 has done so far.

 

In the future, this thread will probably be "I told you so" territory

I think as much as we'd all likely love for Gen 5 to become as good and popular as Gen 4 was, Its likely not going to happen. To be honest, I don't even think that's due to the quality of Gen 5 though that is an issue which has been discussed in length. I just think the reason Gen 5 won't succeed as well as Gen 4 did is due to it not having a strong fanbase behind it. Correct if you think I'm wrong but I say with confidence that the brony fandom is what carried the show throughout all those years. It carried the show for a number of reasons which range from the reputation that the fandom had due to "Guys liking a little girls show" to the massively dedicated bronies who basically pumped out content on a daily basis such as art and music. The fandom is what kept the show alive and basically provided easy third party advertisement for several years as people talked about this "phenomenon" which was the brony fandom.

Don't get me wrong though, I know there is a fandom behind Gen 5 but I just don't think its ever going to become as big as the one for Gen 4, even if the show is amazing. One of the main reasons I originally got into MLP was due to the brony fandom and hearing about it constantly over the internet. It was due to people talking about it all the time and hearing that there were guys that liked a "little girls show" which peaked my interest and lead to me watching that first episode one night when I was like 13. Gen 5 just doesn't have that and I really don't think it will. I'll be honest, I've literally heard nothing about Gen 5 over the internet since it started, and people are definitely not going to be surprised by it anymore. No one is going to be making a new documentary about adults liking My Little Pony anytime soon because all the shock has passed and people are just used to this now. Unless the show is beyond amazing, I don't honestly think many people are going to give it much attention aside from us.

G5 has a lot to live up to match the overall quality of G4, but don't pretend that G4 was this flawless beacon of quality. The series as a whole had plenty of dud and bad episodes; not to mention comics & such. Given time MyM could be just as good as G5, but that remains to be seen.

G4 was one of those once-in-a-lifetime things which are almost impossible to recreate successfully no matter how hard you try. G5 is going to be successful given the amount of effort that's being given to it but there is no way it could ever be more successful than G4. I know that sounds bad but it's the unfortunate truth. G4 wasn't perfect by any means though as it had its share of bad content along with numerous controversies that plagued it every now and then. There's no doubt G5 will go through ups and downs of its own as that's only natural in the world of animation.

The latest MYM showed some deep flaws in Izzy; the MYM version of Izzy (at least in this episode) showed very little respect for other ponies' property or boundaries, and this isn't the first time she's done so.  Plus, having a joke in it that'd sail over little kids' heads (and the kind that'd never be in FiM) gave me hope for MYM.

I doubt it'll reach FiM's heights, but who knows?  Some adventure, the writers/director getting better at humor and timing, some worldbuilding, some character development, getting us to love these characters like we did the G-4 characters, and it might turn into a match for FiM.  I wouldn't call that "likely", but it can be done!

I doubt it. Even if I do end up enjoying it in the long run, FIM set the bar very high. Even the worst moments in FIM weren't so bad that I even considered not watching it anymore. My reaction was more like "that episode/character irked me, but this writing & production team has proven they can do great things." And I'm willing to give MYM a chance. Not expecting it to be on par with FIM apart from maybe the occasional episode, but I'm also not assuming it's gonna be complete trash just because the introduction to MYM hasn't wowed me (and neither has TYT or even the movie to be completely honest).

I wouldn't call G-5 matching G-4 likely, either.  They'd really have to work for it and build up to it, but it can happen in theory.

I highly doubt that MYM will even be on par with FiM, let alone be better than it. Already, the animation and voice acting departments for MYM have been lower quality than FiM, so it already has that weighing it down a bit. When it comes to story, it is hard to say for sure since only the pilot of MYM has aired so far, but I also doubt that will match up to the average writing quality of FiM. I think that MYM could have decent writing with a few fun episodes that are comparable to FiM, but for the most part just having decent writing isn't going to put MYM on the level of FiM's first seven seasons. One of these factors is that the main cast don't seem to have as much potential to stay compelling throughout the series as the mane six did. Also, it seems like MYM just repeated the same lesson of TYT rather than come up with a new lesson or theme, which could get boring when compared to FiM's variety of themes and lessons. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think that MYM can manage to surpass the last two seasons of FiM, but I doubt it will manage to do the same when compared the rest of the series.
