Why Are There So Many Pegasi OCs?

No really, why does everypony make their OC a pegasus? I mean, I know that my OC is a pegasus so I guess I'm not the one that should start this topic but... I still want reasoning for it... For example, when I made my OC (RiverBank) I wasn't sure If I wanted him to be an earth pony or a pegasus, but eventually, for the sake of writing adventure fics, I decided it will be best to make him a pegasus. I'm starting this topic because there is a substantial amount of pegasi compared to both unicorn and earth pony OCs.

 

So tell me, if your OC is a pegasus, why did you make him/her one? Or a unicorn. Or an earth pony.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that it has something to do with the fact that deep down everypony has the desire to be able to fly.

 

Lots of people make their OCs a projection of what they wish they could be, which is why you see so many boyfriend-of-one-of-the-mane-6-stronger-than-Celestia-good-at-everything-and-has-a-compelling-backstory-red-and-black-alicorn OCs.

I chose a Pegasus, mainly because Alicorns are too mainstream, but also because I think that a Pegasus suits my ponysona better than any other species. Also, because flying is awesome.

Mine is an alicorn, but I would rather be a unicorn than a pegasus. Unicorns (if talented enough in magic) can use a spell to make wings.

Pegasi are actually MORE popular than alicorns. It's a stereotype that alicorns are the most popular. Not as many people make them because they're afraid of the stigma associated, and of their OC automatically being considered a Mary Sue.

 

I believe the reason many OCs are pegasi is because people are all FLYING WINGS COOL. Honestly, I think some OCs don't need wings and should probably be earth ponies. They just seem like they tacked on those wings for the cool factor. Also, Rainbow Dash is a popular character, and beloved by bronies. She has a lot of that tomboyish and cool factor, which could lead to some modeling their OCs after her. Pegasi just seem more acrobatic, and probably like a more masculine and tomboyish type of pony. A pegasus just has a cooler image than a normal pony or a girly unicorn.

 

Honestly, it annoys me quite a bit. I think earth ponies need more love. (Yes, my main OC is a unicorn, but that is because I believe a unicorn fits my personality as a ponysona. I have mostly earth pony OCs.)

My ponysona is a Pegasus, but thats because since i was little i've always wanted to fly. Plus i gave my pony the job to change all the leaves ready for autumn and that seems more of a pegsis job then any other!

I have an earthpony and a changeling OC! Because you know... Changeling!

I agree with the previous posters that talked about how OC's are often what their makers wish they could be in Equestria. Thus all the pegasi, and alicorns for the people who can't decide between unicorn and pegasus. I think.

Yeah I agree, I had that same idea in mind (FLYING WINGS COOL) at first, but then I was like "._. I don't think I need wings", I did make my OC a pegasus after all, but the wings don't really add anything too special in my opinion. Edited July 21, 2012 by RiverBankNut

My OC's a unicorn. Mostly becuase of how much I can relate to Twilight, and that I usually think of academics when it comes to magic, while with Pegasi and Earth Ponies I think of athletics. And just becuase magics awesome.

I really like Pegasi personally because I'd rather not be a Unicorn or Earth Pony.

It's just preference, but I don't see THAT many pegasi. I think I've seen more unicorns than Pegasi, and just a bit less Earth ponies.

I also prefer Alicorns just to stay Celestia, Luna, and Cadance.

 

I think other people should go with different breeds of OC's as well. I probally don't have the personality to want one, but heck, half snake half pony like Chigens is a really cool OC. OC's aren't just Ponies.

 

But yeah, back on topic, just general preference that I have a Pegasus OC.
