it seems that you give very little credit to, and have very little faith in, the ability of individuals in Equestria to cooperatively bring about their own peace and prosperity.

Without Pinkie Pie's influence Ponyville devolves into unhappy and frankly rude behavior.  So. . . I think that if P-ville is an apt example (and it's where E U and P live in the most harmony according to that one judge so if it's not apt, what is!?) then why should anypony have faith in the individuals of Equestria?

I always thought that that series of events, along with others in that episode (e.g. all the apple trees and crops at Sweet Apple Acres dying within one day, and the Carousel Boutique becoming dilapidated within one day), were overblown and unbelievable. What reason do we have to believe that the Apple family's trees and crops would die within a day of not being taken care of properly? Or that Applejack not knowing about fashion would cause the Carousel Boutique to fall into such neglect that huge cobwebs develop and the windows have to be boarded up? Or that the residents of Ponyville become furious, sad, incapable of smiling, and uncooperative just because a single pony isn't doing her usual "C'mon everyone, smile!" shtick?

Consequently, it seems more likely to me that those events were purposefully exaggerated to drive the plot of the episode (and perhaps for emotional effect), rather than those events being strict canon of the world of Equestria. It's hard for me to imagine that one of the takeaways of the show is supposed to be that, without the princesses and the Mane Six, all the other ponies in Equestria are cripplingly incompetent and unable to cooperate with each other and live their day-to-day lives.

In my canon the magic that effects the ponies effects all of Ponyville RETROACTIVELY -- this explains why Twilight has her moment and all mane 6 theirs.  It's a reversal of those aspects of the spell.

Even without that the denizens of P-ville are pretty suggestible.  All vs. Zecora, All kids hoarding after Twily etc.,  Again it can be argued that is a flavor thing, but at some level it's all head canon.

Thanks, Mattlight/Twilight for your explanation. Bravo !!!

It was the best explanation I could get about Celestia and Luna raising Sun and the moon explaining the things from point of view of science and at same time the point of view of ponies.

The only thing I got confused was the refrences about "Garret" and "Fortuna" .. it was only a RPG reference, speculation ?

Thanks once again and congratulations ! Twilight continue digging on the books but don´t forget your friends !

Dude, you are doing it the hard way.  Every atom in the planet is moving way faster than orbital velocity in random directions.  Just get them all to move in the direction you want.  Planet speeds up & cools down.

As to "how do they know of other planets?"  In Equestria Girls, they have a portal to another dimension.  This might have been their 1st clue, other dimensions exist.

This ignores "how canon are G1 & G2 events?"  But, even if they are so long ago they are only legends, still they have the legends

No what I want to know is "How did they keep the planets from crashing before unicorns learned the spell?"

This was early in my researches before I discovered that name. "Terra" is latin for Earth, so it worked well enough.

I now have an entire blog dedicated to stuff like this: http://asksciencepony.tumblr.com/

Equus is latin for horse.

Why can't there be a name in science be in... Scandinavian!

OMG I looked at the first post, and I'm not the only one that calls it Equus! yay I'm not crazy!

Isn't that equivalent to calling our planet Homo?

And I thought Hippo was latin for horse. Maybe I'm confusing with greek...

I have questions, Twilight.

1. How the heck did Luna think she was gonna make the night last forever? I can't believe nobody's asked this yet.

2. How did you do that crazy thing with the sun when the other princesses gave you all their magic?

3. How did Discord make it switch between day and night really fast that one time?

4. You read Celestia and Luna's diary, right? Remember Luna tried to learn a spell to move the stars? How would she have done that? Or was it not a real spell?
