This episode got me wondering..

At the end, when we see Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash are standing up against the nightmare, and Luna looks at the screen
What if the whole "fessing up to RD" thing was all a dream from Luna? :o

Interesting... What if Rainbow Dash hadn't saved Scootaloo, and instead she'd fallen into the river? What if her being saved and any episodes forward from this point is all a dream conjured by Luna to keep her mind happy and peaceful while she's really in an unbreakable coma?

Sounds like fanfic material right there...

Also, this could explain why everything turns out pretty much exactly how Scootaloo envisions it at the start of the episode... "It's like she practically wants to take me under her wing, teach me everything she knows, and be like my big sister."

>Scootaloo gets better at singing

>Sweetie Belle is getting worse

What gives?

Anyway, I found this episode slightly more enjoyable on a repeat viewing, there were some real token Rarity/Sweetie Belle moments hidden in there. Still not a grade A episode to me though, it really could have been better. I really hoped we'd get to see some of Scootaloo's home life(like we've seen with, I don't know, EVERYPONY ELSE) and maybe see her fly or have them acknowledge her lack of flying ability, but no, nothing. A lot of you may have gotten what you wanted out of this episode but I guess I just didn't.

Corey Powell, a new writer, huh. Okay, let's see what you've got.

....

Definitely different in style, Powell's writing uses more cartoon gags. Up to an extent that's alright and this episode stayed within tolerable limits all except for the scene where Scootaloo checks the path ahead. No further such inanities, please. Keep the writing down to earth, it's better for character moments and makes the episode easier to take seriously. As for her grasp on the characters she's excellent at writing RD but Rarity, not so much. Making Sweetie Belle lug around her needlessly excessive baggage was a self-centered and mean thing to do. Further, that she's prissy is alright- that's an important part of her character- but make sure to add in scenes to remind the audience she's more than that. She was a small part of the episode true but just a tiny scene can go a long way. Beyond that Sweetie Bell's poor singing performance is a glaring inconsistency. And... that's it for flaws. Let's talk positive qualities. Lord knows it was time for Scootaloo to get her own episode and her relationship with RD in particular needed expounding upon. Now it has been and it's kinda beautiful. Powell's writing show's a clear tendency towards frivolousness but* when it mattered she nailed it with a touching scene. By taking their relationship where I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see it go she's earned points with me. While it's a shame the episode up until then was merely alright the ending boost it up enough to qualify it as good.

*I've since retracted this claim.

i new this episode was going to be great, mainly because scootaloo is my favorite CMC(and she is just so damn adorable), but i had NO idea it would be this good. it was absolutely perfect in every way IMO!...and i have to say...NEW ALL TIME FAVORITE EPISODE!

This.  100% this.  I blame Corejo's (still unfinished!) epic "Transcendence" for getting me hooked on the idea of Dash as Scoots' big sister.

And the surprising Luna character development came out of nowhere, but just worked.

I really liked how they used Luna in this episode.

The Princess of the NIght can now enter your dreams....

Awesome.

"They must be faced, or the nightmares will continue.."

I enjoyed that line, and I believe that there is deeper meaning.

I think Luna is still fearful of the return of Nightmare Moon, and of becoming jelous of her sister because Celestia recieves more love.

But she enters dreams and can defeat the nightmares of other ponies..?

Keep it up, Luna..

Everything in this episode was just amazing. So much character development and I personally loooooved the relationship between Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash. It was priceless! Honestly I wasn't expecting Luna to appear (didn't see the previews) but I will agree with some of you, having her on this episode was worth it. Glad to see more of her. :)

If Dash and Fluttershy do not count in 'everypony else' :o

Said it once I'll say it again. I don't care for the idea of Scoots having a BG with parents or anything. Having a character that the writers let stay in a 'presumed orphan' state is very interesting, and on top of that, giving her a surrogate sister from one of main cast  is also a unique detail that you don't see much elsewhere in the show. Introducing parents, family, etc with Scoots would kill a lot of that feeling for me.

So it's confirmed Scootaloo is an orphan right? They sure do try avoid using mentioning any literal family of hers.

It's as fanon know as Applejacks dead parents. This ep gives every opportunity to explain things a bit and I doubt we'll see her folks any I'm soon.

Well, I definitely thought this episode was the best of season 3 so far. I really liked how Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo bonded. I think this means Scootaloo is on her way to getting her cutie mark in the near future.

Also, the fact that Luna appeared in Scootaloo's dreams was totally awesome. It reminded me of some movie, what was it? Oh yeah:

INCEPTION.

The best movie ever!

I had to sit here here and study the screenshot for a while before I realized what you were talking about. Dear Celestia, are you serious? If what you're implying is true, then...

...um....

Scootaloo's facial expression just took on an extra layer of meaning.

I was about to ask why you randomly included Derpy Hooves being born on the timeline, but then I saw your name and my question was answered...

Daaaaaaaang, that was a pretty sweet episode, yo.  And if you can't tell, bro, I watched it right after Breaking Bad.

But seriously now.  We finally get a Scootaloo episode, Rainbow finally progresses their relationship, and more of Luna's night duties are finally revealed?  If I had known that all that was coming in one episode, I would have watched it live in a heartbeat.  Instead I caught it at 2:00 AM, and am just writing this before going to bed.  My most memorable moments:

- The stories and dream sequences themselves were very well made.  They sound exactly like stories I've heard while camping, and the nightmares (hehe, nightMARES) were excellently creepy in their cinematography and color.

- Getting a glimpse of Luna in the first nightmare, adding intrigue.

- The fact that Luna can enter dreams for impromptu therapy sessions.

- Seeing what's at the bottom of the rainbow waterfalls under Cloudsdale.

While I didn't like it as much as Magic Duel, it's up there, man.  Gatorade me, bitch!

I absolutely loved this episode. Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo are like 2 of the best ponies ever, It was so awesome seeing them bond. 2 things though......

1. How in the world did Rainbow Dash even hear Scootaloo calling for help with ear plugs in her ears might I add?

2. Is it just me or did Rainbow not have ear plugs the first time she went to sleep? Probably it was more because Scootaloo was trying everything so the others wouldn't fall asleep though.

But, those aside very, very, very, awesome episode. And Sweetie Belle was Hilarious.  And I found it funny that Rainbow is all like ...... "Sure, you can share the tent with me as long as you don't snore......You don't snore do you"? And then a little bit later you find out that Rainbow Dash snores. Maybe I'm just strange finding that funny, but seeing as she made a sorta big deal about Scoot's snoring only to find out Rainbow snored to me was funny.

All in all Best Episode I have seen in a very long time. I didn't even mind not having a letter. You Learned something even without it thanks to Luna.

This episode I actually kinda liked. It had some pretty good faces in it. Like Sweetie Belle's face at the end of the scene when she's trying to get Rarity to come camping with her.

I also liked how they managed to tie in Luna going into people's dreams.

No matter what you guys say, no one (old or young) can be as swag as Granny Smith in the intro.

>Scootaloo gets better at singing

What gives?

They're connected on the artistic place, so they're just exchanging energy in the form of musical talent.

Or something like that, I guess.

We all do friend. We all do... Sigh.

I wasn't expecting Luna either. It's as if she shows up whenever she isn't supposed to. Gala? Nope. Changeling invasion? Nope. Nightmare of a crusader? There in a heartbeat! Not that I'm complaining though, far from it.

I think, as I theorized during the two previous seasons, she tends to act in subtler ways than Tia. As she says in the episode, her job is to "enter dreams" or cause intuitions.

She may have been the one who woke up Fluttershy before it was too late, for example, in the episode with the cockatrice.

If she didn't show up for the Gala (at least the portion we saw before things got out of hoof) and the beginning of Shining's marriage ceremony, it was probably because she was too busy watching the world and planting seeds of love&tolerance in ponies' minds.

Well that quickly turned from being my 'looking forward to the least' episode of season 3 to my favourite of the season so far...

Agreed, I didn't think it would be nearly this good. Go figure that one of the least interesting episode summaries was attached to the most awesome show of S3. If they keep producing on this level, we'll have another great season in the works.

Funny that, I thought it was going to be a brilliant episode, and it was (2nd favorite in the entire series now). In the only instance that has ever occurred in.

On the other hand, Hurricane Fluttershy, which I consider to be the best so far in the show, was an episode with a summary that made it sound like a Dragonshy clone. And I hated Dragonshy.

This episode was really cute and sweet and d'aaaaaw, and Luna was in it, but there seems to be a lot of brony shout-outs that I think need to be toned down. I mean, fanon and canon can mix occasionally, but they shouldn't start relying on it. We like the show because of its surprisingly well-written but still childish charm.

I totally didn't tear up at the RD and Scoots flight scene BTW

That reminds me.

Having just watched Show Stoppers on Friday I think, the opening scene was an awesome callback, in my opinion. Granny Smith just bending so that Scootaloo could avoid hitting her, instead of getting spun around like the first time... Lol, I loved it.

I'd say it really communicated that Scootaloo has been getting even better with her scooter (which may or may not be gone forever). That, or Granny Smith has swag.
