books The Book Thread

I finally finished Halo Glasslands.

Great Book :D

Is it approachable if you haven't read all of the other Halo books? I read (and enjoyed) the first one of the bunch but couldn't bring myself to even finish the second. Glasslands sounds different enough in concept that I'm more apt to like it, to be honest.

It would always help to read Halo Ghosts of Onyx first but it's perfectly approachable without having read any of the other books.

By second book I assume you're referring to Halo The Flood and I will say that book was pretty bad. Mostly due to them trying to convert Halo CE gameplay into a novel ;)

I just finished "The Big Sleep". I liked it very much so I started in on Chandlers next Phillip Marlowe book. Written in 1939 "Farewell My Lovely" is rather painfully racist in it's first chapter. I won't judge it by that though, and hopefully it'll settle down now that I'm past the opening.

Oh, I got an E-reader on Black Friday. I already have almost FIVE HUNDRED books loaded onto it! That's on top of the one hundred it came with. It's the Aluratek eBook Reader Pro. I'm so happy with it! It lets me set a HUGE font size, so it's easy to read even with my poor eyesight! Each page only has like three paragraphs though, so I hope I don't wear it out with so much extra button pushing page turning!

Hehe, my mom said she will buy me some books if I tell her which ones.

I wanna get the 2010 updated Halo books, they've been avoiding my grasp for far too long.

I am reading Great expectations.

I had no expectations for this book, and I was right.

I hate it.

Just wait until you read tale of two cities. Anyway, I actually like great expectations more than tale of two cities. Dickens can spend two pages describing someones eyebrow in that book.

Show her how classy you are. Ask for the definitive version of Pride and Prejudice:

Although I really hated reading "A tale of two cities," I really liked the ending. Dickens brought the story to an end that was pretty satisfying.

I still liked Great Expectations better.

I finished The Rogue Crew so now I gotta find a new book to read at work. lol

I would bring my DS but I don't have anywhere to keep it except my locker and I share that with another person so I'm not risking that getting stolen. And it can't stay in my pocket because I work in below 0 degree temperatures, that'd ruin it.

So, should I re-read the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon series) so I can read the fourth book when I buy it or should I read Narnia?

Thats a real book???

Yes - the author took the original and added to it to create a story of zombies and such. None of the original text was removed. Look it up on Amazon

Both are great series. But if you haven't already, I think you should read Narnia. I honestly don't know how to label that series. They are sci fi, fantasy, children's fiction, religious fiction, and more. I loved the twist ending to the series in the last book.

Plus, if I remember Brisingr right, I think there was a long catchup chapter about everything that came before to remind you.

Currently reading A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken, a friend of C.S. Lewis. I started it when I finished Lewis's Mere Christianity, his apologetic discourse on what all Christians agree upon, regardless of denomination.

Other things I'm reading include art by Shaun Tan

and the Flight Comics volumes, edited by Kazu Kibuishi

Already decided on rereading the series. Even if there is a catchup chapter there's nothing quite like reading the full series again, plus I read them when I was like fifteen or sixteen and eighteen (for the third book) so it's been FOREVER since I read them and I forget so much.

But considering how quickly it took me to finish The Sable Quean and The Rogue Crew I don't think it'll be that long before I start on Narnia. I also wanna reread Dune which I haven't read since I was 14.

I need to finish the Dune series. I have only read the first 3 books of the original series, plus two of the prequels.
