Did Friendship is Magic teach you any life lessons?

the main thing mlp has taught me is to never give up.

i love doing art and writing stories and i would spend a lot of time on the story and pictures but it hurt me every time that i would do something and put it online or give it to my friends. then weeks would go by and no one would read it, see it or even care to say anything about it. i almost decided to stop writing and draw only for my own entertainment but watching the show and seeing the fans made me want to put me stories and my art out there again. that s exactly what i'm doing now

If MLP has taught me anything, it has taught me that even before you met your friends, there could be a connection on why your suppose to be friends. Learn that friends are important in life, and that when your trying to showoff just know that you need to do it in the right way possible.

I take most of the lessons at the end of the episodes to heart.  They are really heartfelt, and make me feel all warm inside.   So, I guess you could say that those lessons, while they might not have taught me stuff that I didn't already know, have certainly taught me to be a compassionate person.

Well to be honest it didn't teach me a whole lot, I mean it made me a happier person overall i think, it reinforced some lessons so that I'd think about them more, i'm still kinda a recluse when it comes to social interaction with people and still really don't have much in the way of friends outside the internet, but i'll get there I guess.

The fandom itself has taught me some things, it has restored some of my faith in society, and taught me that not everyone in the world is a bunch of heartless jerkbags. It also got me to draw pony art, and I think it made me better at long term goals, I mean since I've joined the fandom I feel like I can stick to goals better, idk why the art thing I've been doing is helping, I've stuck to that and improved, and I'm also learning guitar now and I just feel like I can actually dedicate myself to things.

It also makes me feel like I have somewhere where I can go if I'm feeling down or need help with things, since the people here can give some pep talk and help with multiple things, especially in life advice.

I've still got along way to go with things to be learned from MLP I guess, but its taught me some things.

Its also taught me to not judge a book by its cover, and that a show about pastel colored ponies, can actually be like the best cartoon ever.

Mlp is pretty awesome with all the things you can learn from it. If only everyone could be as wonderful and nice as the majority of bronies. :)

The show itself hasn't taught me anything, directly...but it made me want to collect the toys, which was an urge I was super super embarassed by. I was 18, and thought people should be done with playing with toys when they're like, 11. I did start buying the toys, but I was still really ashamed that I still wanted toys. But slowly I learned that nobody's ever "too old" for childish delights if it makes them happy! When I got to college I decided to embrace my rather strange quirk, and people here were super supportive of it. They think it's cute :'D And nobody acts like there's anything wrong with me collecting pony toys. My boyfriend is very supportive of it as well, and he loves that I collect toys because it makes me very happy. He even calls me up whenever he's at the store to see if I'm missing any of the ponies or dolls he found!

Now my obsession's branched out to Monster High dolls in a fierce way, and other toys too. But Pony was the gateway drug for me, haha. Through my pony toy collection, I learned there's nothing wrong with pursuing a passion if it really does make me happy (and I have the finances for it, of course!), even if it's a childish one :) I just gotta be honest to myself, that this is a quirk of mine and there is nothing wrong with it.

Okay this is exactly what it sounds like. What did the show teach you as you watched it. I learned that it's okay to celebrate your accomplishments as long as you don't rub it in everypony's face, and that the practice of doing such is not egotistical. Speaking of which for that reason mare do well is one of my favorite episodes.

Now i know what the majority of fans of MLP are, but i am curious to see what the show has taught you. I couldn't find a thread quite like this so here it is.

Hmm, well I can say this show has taught me a lot of things. It's taught me that when you're friends, you can't have everything your way. It's taught me to tolerate and accept each others differences and to instead appreciate each other for who we are. Is taught me to overcome my shyness and fears, and to just be proud of who I am. It's taught me how to be positive, and it's taught me how to smile. There are still a lot of problems I have, but MLP has seriously helped me more than anything else in my life before this point.

An excellent idea for a thread, my dear sir!

MLP has taught me a host of lessons, some about life, and very many about what makes an engaging story; I continue to learn new things in this vein every day, and attempting to detail them all in a short post would leave me up far past my bedtime.

But one nugget I can leave this auspicious discussion, one prime lesson I have learned, is this: the simplest lessons people need to hear--they aren't necessarily the profound ramblings of Dostoevsky or Kierkegaard. They aren't the fine proclamations of C.S. Lewis, as wise gentlemen as they all may or may not be. People most need to hear the lessons you'd think they already know--indeed, the lesson they'd claim to know if you pressed them to it.

After all, wouldn't anyone agree with you if you said it was noble to celebrate your accomplishments in the manner described above? And yet, because the wisdom is so simple--perhaps that is why so many forget it, and so easily.

The boldest, single most powerful thing MLP ever did was take childish lessons--and they ARE all childish lessons, every one of them, that could have been found at Winnie-the-Poof or a lower level--and by placing them, boldly, in a show that entertained is grown-ups, said, 'Hey, you! Yeah, you! I'm not just talking to your daughter. I'm talking to you. This is the truth, and important, and you should be heeding it just as much as her.'

The lesson of Friendship is Magic is: Empowered women are sexy.

And also: Non-Pony Fiction   or    Pony Fiction

@Dawn Stripes

That's spot on. It's equivalent to the beginning of season two. Discord knows full well what these elements of harmony are, and what the term friendship is, but it didn't matter to him.

Season three spoiler just in case ;)

In season three, now that he actually experienced friendship for himself, and saw for real just how much it actually meant to him, he changed.

The lessons MLP teaches aren't anything new, but it presents them in a way that's concrete, real, and fun to boot. It really makes you feel like its yours, not just being told to you. It creates a context with which you can really become a part of.

Because of the show itself and fans, I've learned to never judge a girly or uninteresting show or anything in general without giving it at least one try.

You'll never know how great they can be if you give it a shot, and so far, the lesson is excellent for me. ;)

well, i already knew most of the moral stuff. knew/follow. um...not necessarily from the show itself, but during an RP with a few other bronies, i learned to beware the internet. i miss my innocence. :(

This show taught me that I can love a cartoon about ponies that learn about the magic of friendship intended for a target audience of young girls.

I have learned a show as simple as this can have alot of depth to it.

After watching the show and becoming a fan, I headed on line.  There I learned sooo much more.  More then I probly wanted to know about the show and the fans.   Countless Analize vids, lets watch, first reacts, PMV's , and shots.    Im happy to be a brony.

  • There's no such thing as a "guilty pleasure": if you like something for legitimate reasons, you should own up to it and own it.

Sometimes life isn't as clear cut as you think it should be and you may not have a perfectly thought out plan for what you want to do or who you want to be. And that's okay. In fact, thinking about it, this may be the main overarching lesson of Friendship is Magic, besides, y'know, "friendship is magic".

Groups of people and demographics are not black and white. They are grey.

Good characters are defined by how they respond to each other or events.

Doctor Who is awesome.

MLP didn't really teach me anything new, it was more of like a nice refresher on life.

The things taught, the messages brought by the show, are things that really bring people down back to Earth. People are bogged down with so many complications in life, but sometimes it's the simple things that really count.

You'd be surprised, even still in life, how a simple action can change everything.

Heyo :3 Your topic, 'What did MLP teach you?' actually matches another topic, titled 'Did Friendship is Magic teach you any life lessons?' Both talk about vital, real-world applicable sentiments you've learned, based on the show and its' own stories and themes. I've merged the two.

Our on-forum search function is handicapped at the moment xP Only pathetically straight-forward searches work at the moment. Instead, I recommend using Google's site-specific search function =3 'mlp forums' and then your search term, then click 'more from mlp.forums.com' that's linked on the first result.

Glad you're enjoying yourself so far!

Lesson Zero definitely taught me not to overreact when things don't go my way like Twilight did. It reaps disastrous consequences if done like Twilight did. It also taught me that when your friend's facing a problem that you shouldn't dismiss them so easily. Help them to the best of your abilities.

The show has taught me a GREAT DEAL of things. I used to be kinda a sad person at heart, but ever since i tried out ponies, my life has been so much better. It also taught not to be a complete dick to people haha, thats probly the biggest thing, i used to be a harsh person but after watching ponies i became a nicer and more easy going person. It also brings me a lot of joy and i love every friendship lesson it gives and i always make sure to try to apply it to my life in any way possible ^_^
