So, apparently Hasbro has already planned to release a figure of Twilight as an alicorn.

It looks pretty accurate (besides the Cutie mark and wings)! I don't really mind this figure, it looks great. my problem though is that I recently read a post about a rumor about how Hasbro might be using Alicorn Twilight as a marketing scheme. So seeing this makes me a bit nervous, but I don't think that's the case. So, I think this looks like a very well-done figure! Looks nice, and I would buy it! :D At least, if I had enough dough...so, your thoughts? Opinions? :)

I saw the demo video on YouTube of this thing. What do people think of this? Well, the like/dislike ratio makes it pretty clear. :P

I hope they don't stop making Unicorn Twilight toys since I've been planning on getting one for a while. I'm never going to buy anything related to Alicorn Twilight. Still, looks nice :).

If I recall the vast majority of the toy line is still unicorn Twi, actually.

They are using Alicorn Twilight as a marketing tool. Hasbro direct the story of the characters as they see fit so that they can boost toy sales. Look at what they did to Cadence. They made quite a bit off of the Royal Canterlot Wedding set. Only difference being the Canterlot Wedding was a better plot and story arc to go on. My 5 year old niece didn't even like Alicorn Twilight... that should tell you something when even kids aren't fooled.

I don't mind the whole Alicorn Twilight thing, but man can I just say My Little Pony toys were SO much better in G1/G2? Of course, I prefer a good show with bad toys to a not-as-good show with good ones but MAN.

75% of the fan-made ones I've seen are more impressive imo

Even though Hasbro did this all just to sell toys, that's a pretty darn good toy.  xD  it's really pretty.  Just add a lick of paint to the crown and necklace and you've got yourself a pretty accurate Twily!

I painted Luna's crown black and it works xD Even though the toy looks nothing like Luna.

Maybe this whole Alicorn Twilight thing is just a temporary switch so Hasbro have a valid reason to sell these toys? For example, if or when the sales of the toys hit a certain point, Hasbro will give the writers a sign to change her back?

Just a thought, I'm not here to create rumors or speculate.

I think we as bronies are spoiled by the love and care that we put into our show-accurate recreations.

Yes, it's not something I like to see when Hasbro has a hard time making show-accurate toys (it's not that hard to work with the show staff, after all), but there's a certain order to how these things are working.

Hasbro does not force the show staff for this generation to make or feature certain ponies. Hell, if the show staff is to be believed then this (Alicorn Twilight) was in the works for a long time - if not day one of the series then at least from day one of third season. The toymakers were probably just as surprised when they were told by the show staff "Oh hey, we need a Twilight toy with wings for the season finale" as we were when we found out that Twi was getting her own set of wings.

They didn't really get the crown right Isnt Twi's crown gold with the purple sparkle? Well they cant get everything right about a toy.

Its not about getting everything right. Hasbro is notorious for the low quality (and high price) of their MLP toy line. Toys and Plushes by the fandom are much better. They will cost you more but overall you will be more satisfied. Hasbro make G4 ponies look G3.5 ish.

Brushables cost 5 bucks. Maybe it only takes 1 buck to make each one but still. 5 bucks is still not a high price.

The G4 ponies do not look like the G3.5 ponies. Have you even been to the store since G4 toys came out? Do you even know what the G3.5 toys look like? The only ones that look like G3.5 are the So Soft Newborns that nobody likes anyways. The brushables don't look perfectly show-accurate but you can style their manes in a way that makes them show-accurate.

I am just really really tired of seeing all the bitching about the toys. Hasbro is actually getting BETTER - have you even seen any of the new toys from the 2013 toy fair?

Are these toys absolutely 100% perfect? No. Do they have to cater to our every will? No. So stop complaining about the toys and move on with life.

If they wanted alicorn Twilight to exist just so that they can sell the toys, well whoopdeedoo. Why should this be an outrage to you people? Hasbro is a toy company and they want to make money. Where is the news in that? Do you really expect them to be ultra-sympathetic to bronies and do everything that bronies want them to, and if they don't, then they're a heartless corporation? Well gee, maybe you ought to get a job and see what it's like to work, well, anywhere. Just because you like MLP it doesn't mean that Hasbro is supposed to be a "better" company than, say, Mattel. And by better, of course I mean that they aren't in it for the money one bit and they don't care if they go broke as long as they are pleasing their precious bronies who are supposed to mean everything to them. Get real.

Gah. That is my rant for the week.

Whoa lol. I have the $5 Brushables. I have been to the store and i have seen them. I don't care about them that much. The point is when i do buy them for my niece i would prefer them be as close to show accurate as possible for my money. Thats consumerism. Sorry you can hate me for that but it really makes no difference to me. I buy stuff made by the fandom because its better.

Well, somebody call the cash cow. Cha-ching! Moo!.. But anyway, we all knew Hasbro did this for the money of course. Marketing = Toy sales. Hasbro will probably get more money with Season 4, but they have to wait a while until then. It doesn't look that bad, at least her mane wasn't as messed up as Cadence's mane in Games Ponies Play. :P

Again, we bronies are spoiled by the love and care that goes into the products that the bronies make. If all the brony toymakers went to Hasbro and applied for work as Hasbro toymakers, then naturally the toy quality would improve as far as show accuracy, but at the same time the brony toymakers would run into situations where the show staff would tell the bigwigs that "we're planning on doing X with Y" so that the bigwigs can then turn to the toy staff and say "the show staff is planning on doing X with Y, so start making toys of XY".

Behold the entire reason why this mishap happened in the first place. All hail the toy giant that is Hasbro. Hooray for blatant marketing ploys.

I don't understand this attitude. The show isn't ruined, the episode was arguable rushed, but good, and a movie is on its way that is full of possibilities. What happened to bronies being positive and supportive like Twilight and her best friends are of one another? Can't we enjoy this little show for what it is and not try to ruin it for others? I know you're entitled to your opinion, I'm just not happy about all the negativity leaking in to the brony fandom.

  • 2 weeks later...

While the Twilcorn toy looks very pretty (and I"ll probably be trying to figure out where the heck I"m going to put her since I"ll probably end up buying her). I just wish they had made her wings purple.(they could have made them all fancy looking and such but made it the right color) She's not a butterfly, she's got pegasus wings. Just like with the glitterwings  I wish they had colored Rarity's wings closer to the ones in the show
