Applejack.... Popular!?!

Applejack has been number three on my favorite pony list for awhile.  She's one of the most caring and driven fictional characters I can think of.  She's always putting the interests of others ahead of her own.  And of course Apple Family Reunion completed the telling of her backstory.  We get to see why she is the way she is.  I know it's TV Y but I wish they could've been a bit more upfront about her mom and dad.  We all knew what the shooting stars and her brief anguished expression meant because we were told to watch for it here.  But that probably went over the head of a lot of viewers.  I must confess that I don't like AJ's "countryness" that much.  But she's so great to her family and friends that I'm willing to overlook that. 

 

One Hasbro character AJ reminds me of more than any other is Ironhide.  He's stubborn, ornery, and talks like a country hick.  He doesn't have the exotic abilities most of his Autobot comrades do.  But he's very driven and often serves as Optimus Prime's right hand man.  Ironhide shows great aggression against the Decepticons and wants nothing more than to blow some of them up. Best of all, Ironhide has a mind of his own.  One time, the Decepticons tricked the Autobots into getting on a ship that was programmed to plunge into the sun.  What did Ironhide do?  He clenched his fist, glared at Optimus and said, "Maybe we should take it out on the one who got us into this mess!"   And yet, millenia of war without end has not hardened his heart.  While he's not motherly like Applejack, he is very caring to his fellow Autobots as well as the humans they are sworn to protect.  Considering the parallels between Ironhide and AJ, I'm kinda surprised it took some fans a long time to warm up to AJ.  Ironhide has been one of the most popular Autobots since day one.

I suppose that is possible though I really don't see much a point in hiding as I could care less what haters think and I never really saw all that many hard core Applejack haters. I have seen plenty of haters for Rainbow Dash though and she is one of the most popular characters in the show.

The accent doesn't really do it for me, considering that's how people talk normally in my hometown. Certainly I like Applejack for sheer weight of ideals and everything. She's a great character. I wish she'd have gotten bit better than 'the Count that Counts' for her song, though.

 

And as has been said, she's far more cultural than any other of the characters. She's a southern belle, and that actually detracts from her value for me. I don't find it offensive, being from the south myself, but while the gimmick works for some, it doesn't for me. Too many people are actually like that around me for me to appreciate it.

 

Not to mention they couldn't have gotten any more stereotypical than to make her song a hoe-down. 

 

Honestly, I'm a Rarity fan, and while I'm happy Applejack actually got her time in the limelight this season, I feel like Rarity was shunted to the side to give AJ and Spike more air time. I hope we see a lot more Rarity in season 4. She has so much potential, just like AJ, and like AJ was previously, it seems Rarity now inhabits the lowest tier as 'almost background pony'.

Although Rarity isn't exactly in my top spot I do agree that she has a great deal of potential as a character and I hope we get to see some of that come out in season 4.

Applejack used to be lower on my list of favorite ponies, but I have come to appreciate her more as the series has gone on. She's still not my favorite pony, that honor goes to Fluttershy, but she's definitely not my least. Not by a longshot.

Applejack is still on the bottom of my list, Iver never really liked her. Her character seems so boring and bland to me. Her solo song was great and all, but it doesn't change my thoughts on her

I'm not entirely sure WHEN it began.... but Applejack has always seemed like the most reasonable and understandable pony in the entire show.... and whereas I didn't consider her my favorite from the beginning, around midway through Season 2 I began to really love her and began to accept her as my favorite.
Whereas she got her own "song".... if that's what you want to call it.... it wasn't really all that great, and I feel Applejack's been really betrayed for not getting a better tune than a repetative "raise this barn. raise this barn. 1, 2, 3, 4.", which she should get corrected in season 4.... as well as possibly delving deeper into her past to see exactly what happened to her parents.
Now, I've herd other ponies call her "tomboy-ish".... and in a sense that's true, but it really fits better when describing Rainbow Dash.
Applejack's the type of mare who doesn't mind getting dirty or being up-front about certain issues. As long as it get's the job done, she couldn't really care less how she looks. This is, by far and beyond her characterized southerness, her most admirable attribute.
It is what made me feel so warm whenever I've seen her on-screen.... or in somepony's artwork online.... or just her being mentioned.... it.... it get's me right in here.

Her down-to-earth personality just shines through in the best of places and made me just go head over heels for her.
I don't think I've ever had a crush on a character as much as I have with Applejack, but I've got to say that she is indeed a THING for me.
There is not a single thing about her as a character that I DON'T find immensely attractive.
NOT.... A SINGLE.... THING.

My guess as to why some dislike her (verified by reading some of the posts here) would be that AJ's "southernness" - not only her accent but her mannerisms as well - can be off-putting to some people. I'll admit, she is rather stereotypical in that regard, but I guess I just happen to be one of the people who enjoy or at least appreciate that type of character. I'm always a sucker for a hard-working gal...and to tell the truth, I find girls with southern accents cute as hell...

I think its only logical that she is gaining a larger fandom, due to people shifting around and also due to her increased screentime aswell as getting her own episode and even song in S3. Its no surprise her fanbase went up atleast a little bit.

 

So yeah she has been getting more popular.

I still hold to it that her popularity hasn't grown a whole lot. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, or maybe it's because she's still not as popular as I'd like her to be, but I still see plenty of people who dislike her, and often for silly reasons.

 

Still, there has been more buzz about her as of late, but nothing to really write home about. If people are warming up to her, then I am thrilled, but for now it seems like there's still much work to be done. Maybe season 4 will have the answer.

While it's true that season 3 was kind to Applejack, it was really at Rarity's expense. Spike At Your Service, while not a popular episode, most do agree that Applejack came off strong in the episode. Sadly, it was supposed to be Rarity's episode, so AJ really got lucky on that one.

 

And as much as I loved Apple Family Reunion, I still see far too many people who disliked it or were underwhelmed with it. There's still fans who say Applejack hasn't had any good episodes, (pure bull) and that she's uninteresting or underdeveloped. Again, that's bull. Season 3 did do AJ justice in that, she was the only character to appear in every episode and speak. So even in supporting roles, she had screen time and I think that helped.

 

I do agree though, that at least now there's hope. The background pony joke is dying off. Even though I still don't understand it to be begin with. 3 episodes of focus in season 1 and two episodes of focus in season 2 makes you a background pony? Thank the writers for helping to kill that ridiculous joke off. Now season 4 just has to do what season 3 did, but better.

But seriously, Applejack has always been one of my favorite ponies. When I first started the show, she was my favorite pony and I considered her the best out of the bunch, but eventually Rainbow Dash took that spot. Not to say I still don't love Applejack; she's pretty much tied with Pinkie Pie for second place.

 

Has this newest season had an effect on her popularity, whether it be positive or negative? I'm not sure. I have noticed a lot less background pony jokes, so that's definitely something. I can say that, as an Applejack fan, I did like Season Three since she had a strong showing and I absolutely loved her song in Apple Family Reunion.

Eh, I'm not a huge fan of the baby designs in this show either, so you can count me as the second fan who wasn't too fond of that scene. I mean, I don't hate it, since that is the baby design in the show and Applejack was a baby at some point, but that scene didn't improve my like of her. I did find it adorable, though.

 

I don't think it's because of that one scene, though, unless there's some evidence of that.

I don't think it is just because of that one scene but there is denying that it did help. Season 3 was Applejacks best season so far,not only did she come off strong in the episodes that focus on her but she also had some good roles in many other episodes as well.

RARITY, LONG LIVE RARITY!!! Okay sorry about that. I also think AppleJack has gotten a bit more popular. Her personality is really awesome. Her relationship with her sister is great (I wish my relationship with my sister was like that.) There are a lot of reasons the number of AppleJack fans have increased.
