As much as vinyl is best pony, I don't actually like much dubstep. I don't know why the fandom chose that as her signature genre considering she is actually a DJ and DJ's usually mix Dance/Hard-dance music and considering dubstep is bass music not Dance music, it doesn't really make much sense that she's associated with dubstep 

 

I'm not well versed in electronic music trends (I like what I like when I like it), but my guess would be because around the same time MLP:FiM came out dubstep was the exceedingly popular genre. That being said, I appreciate that Vinyl is associated with dubstep because it is a very devisive genre - usually, you either love it or hate it, and since Vinyl's character design is so extreme I think it is a good fit. Just my opinion on the matter.

I've loved the idea of a DJ character ever since she made her debut and the little nods and cameos she's had since then are a fun 'where's Waldo' type game I like playing with new episodes, but I gotta say I'm a huge fan of what they've done with her EQG counterpart, especially with regard to Rainbow Rocks and the first short it got.
