Who else can't stand Applejack's voice?

nah, I think a southern belle voice is more girly, like Scarlett in Gone with the Wind. AJ's voice isn't girly... at all.

dead on, not to mention the "belle" accent comes from about 200-500 miles to the east lol. also typically forced, haven't heard a non-forced "belle" accent in my whole life in east texas, stub a toe in high heels and they start cursing like everyone else :D

I like her voice, and it fits her perfectly.

I don't know why, but despite my hate of the South (and I live there, so I can say that) I actually like Southern accents.

Hate AJ's voice? How could I? Her voice is beautiful!

I'll admit I initially felt a little bit of distaste because of her accent when I first started watching the show, but that's only because I have hoardes of Southern relatives, all of whom hate me for various reasons related to their own bigotry, so I have a bad habit of thinking less of someone who has such an accent, a habit that I despise because I try to be an open-minded, tolerant person. Fortunately that's very easy for me to get past if the person proves to be likable, which Applejack certainly has!

I very much like AJ's voice. Her accent is sweet and distinct, and really does add flavor to her character. It's hard to say what she would have been like without it, but I certainly believe AJ is a better all around character with her country manner of speaking.

I really like Applejack's accent. It's one of her traits that makes her stand out. She manages to speak southern-y, but without it sounding forced and cliché. Major props to the VA there, since most southern accents I hear in cartoons and such just scream "I'm trying too hard!".

Back when when I was about to watch the first episode I figured I'd get annoyed by her accent, but I never did.

because it isn't forced, RD's voice is far more forced than AJ's is, ashley's natural accent is southern/country (i'm pretty sure but not certain that she's from eastern texas or LA because the few vids i've seen of her sound too natural to me) RD's voice is more neutral yet raspy and tomboyish, AJ's seems to be more familiar to the actress.

Are you sure? When Ashleigh Ball sings, the accent seems to slip away from AJ's voice almost entirely...it's especially notable in Art of the Dress, but also noticable in At The Gala.

quite a lot of singer's accent's slip away when they sing, but in conversation is when their true accent will shine through, you can't really count songs as accented unless the language itself is not native to the singer, otherwise they know too well what to listen for while they sing, but not when they answer a question such as what type of sandwich is their favorite. yes the accent melts away during song, because her singing has been trained, but her in person speech has not been thusly trained. yes i've seen/heard the interviews, she has a distinctive accent, but she sings with a more neutral tomboyish accent, like RD's voice.

Don't really mind her voice. You can't really imagine a different voice on her, it's that perfect.

Oh, alrighty then. Makes sense to me. She does certainly sound more like Rainbow Dash when she sings, even as Applejack. In Art of the Dress, at the end, without the visuals I can't tell the difference between the two of them.

celine dion was another good example of the disappearing accent, speaking i could hardly understand her, yet singing i could tell each syllable.

it's a matter of how the voice is trained

One thing I love about this show is how each character's voice gives a quick summary of their character in one go.

Twilight is adorably bookish.

Rainbow is boyishly aggressive.

Pinkie is cheerfully bubbly.

Rarity is elegantly sophisticated.

Fluttershy is wonderfully sweet.

And Applejack is deliciously southern with all the perks that entails. :)

The VAs for this show are incredibly skilled and make the characters just come alive. I don't think I could think of anyone else more suited to play their roles.

"The wisest people are always smiling. This is because they've realized that life is one big joke, and they've figured out the punchline."

"When you've decided to do something, either do it with style, or don't do it at all."

"Every atom in our bodies was forged within the fiery heart of a dying star. We are all connected to each other and the universe."

"Before I was born, I was dead for billions of years and it hasn't inconvenienced me one bit."

Indeed, their voices are quite distinct; a critical component in making characters unique rather than carbon copies of one another.

Technically speaking, if I had to place their accents (and bronies, feel free to correct me):

Twilight Sparkle: Standard American

Rainbow Dash: Standard American, albeit with a slightly scratchier tone

Pinkie Pie: Standard American, except in a higher pitch and faster pacing; her singing voice, primarily in "Equestria Girls," reminds me of a Eastern Pennsylvanian accent (the way she rounds her vowels, e.g., "hooves")

Rarity: Atlantic accent (Northeastern US), with a stereotypically "refined" speaking style

Fluttershy: Standard American, perhaps with a slight upper Midwest accent? It's a bit of a shot in the dark for me

Applejack: Southern Missouri (Ozarks)

rarity i think has a bit of "georgia peach" to her accent, muttled a bit maybe with a northern education accent (northeastern) but applejack i'm quite sure is a central/eastern texas accent with a little tennessee/kentucky mixed in, to me her voice sounds very natural but reminds me of visiting relatives near bowling green (30 minutes from the corvette plant which was an awesome tour back when i was 12)

the rest sound very clean to me in regards to accent, RD i think has a little bit of AJ's accent that bleeds through (same VA...) but only a slight touch and a tiny bit of gruffness thrown in
