Furry is the term of the fandom. Like being a furry. The term is used like the term Brony/pegasister.

Now these humanoid animals are called anthropomorphic animals or Anthro(s). Basically animals with human characteristics. I mean both MIckey and Donald fit under those terms.

I am myself both a furry and a fursuiter, and I enjoy entertaining very much  ^^   :D

Personally, I'm a furry myself and I have been told that Bronies are a branch of Furries, which I do think is true. To some it's not, but to others like me it's whatever. Furries have been called many horrible things due to some people in the Furry community which is a real shame. Most Furries are actually nothing like that.

I feel I should clarify that I'm not bothered by someone's love life or what type of porn, short of child, is on their hard drive. What left a sour taste in my mouth was the way furries I met treated me and those I know. It's a gathering place for unsavory types and lights up my caution radar whenever I hear it because I don't know what's going to come of meeting someone involved.

While active in the furry fandom, I was contacted by about a dozen men online who thought that a no was just a yes that needed convincing. One of them laughed it off and said he was just being a playful wolf when I asked him to stop trying to start sexual roleplay and camming with me for the second time at the risk of me removing him from my contacts. My friends have recieved similar pushy treatment from furries they've encountered, often out of the blue.

I went to the local meets for awhile and met a few dozen awesome people in addition to some who had no concept of personal space or inside voices in restaurants or coffee shops. Eventually, however, there were new members who were caught looking at furry porn in public, who disappeared into single-occupancy same-sex bathrooms together for long periods in public, and who just generally made a noisy mess with food that wasn't even from the coffee shop the meet took place in. The owners threatened to ban the whole group, and one of the long-term members they were familiar with and trusted had to plead with them for a chance to correct the situation.

I could go on... but...

To date they're the only people to have treated me and mine with such disrespect short of party guests who were never again invited, with the only comparison being a friend of mine who was cornered by a rabid fan of her art/fanfiction at an anime convention and had to have others intervene. I recieved kinder treatment on dating websites, and there's millions of people there who could potentially send a stream of aggressive sexual comments versus the thousands or tens of thousands on any given furry website besides FurAffinity.

It's a high-risk community because of how concentrated the negatives are in such a relatively small space. I'm wary of finding out whether furries I meet are going to be friendly and kind or try to pressure me into something I don't want to do and think that it's cute and funny instead of a horrifying way to treat someone's refusal. Both of those things are likely, so my guard goes up and my either my eyes go to the door in case they're a grabber or my mouse hovers over the block button in case they're awful rape-y.

Furries? FURRIES! Espurr dammit I hate furries to an all hell. See, furries are just disgusting. The art is severely disturbing. Like I want to see a humanoid fox with boobs, or a pokemon with boobs, OR- ok no that's enough of that. I hate it when people label bronies as furries. Brony, I think, means someone who appreciates My Little Pony the show. Not a bunch of fat weirdos fapping to cartoon horses. That's just weird if you can't be a true brony and not one of those things.

So yeah. Opinions. :/

Saying bronies are furries because we watch a show about miniature cartoon horses is like calling someone a furry because they watch animal planet. I find furries to be odd because I see it as a minor form of bestiality.

I don't really see the appeal in the furry fandom. Not knocking those who like it, but it isn't for me.

I like a few series that happen to have talking animal characters, but that's not why I like those series. And I think that's what makes someone a furry - the animal aspect of the work is the main appeal to them, they find animal characters more relatable than humans, etc. Simply liking a work that has humanized animals doesn't make one a "furry" in my opinion; To be a furry, you're into the work primarily because it has anthropomorphic animals.

In my case, I don't qualify for the label. I can watch and enjoy a cartoon starring animals, but that's never my reason for watching it.

Thanks I guess ?  ; /  I mean the clopping thingy is a deal in the furry fandom too so : 7 Sorry to hear about people's unfortunate meetings I guess.

I haven't really had that much of an experience with the furry fandom, so I can't exactly form a legit opinion, other than just simply neutral. I've seen a few nice examples of furry artwork, along with some really disturbing ones. Then again, I've seen more disturbing things from this brony fandom. More than I can count really. And I don't believe that bronies are a subculture of furries. I do agree that some of us bronies are also furries, but I don't fundamentally agree that the two fandoms coincide. They tend to overlap, but I guess that really depends on how the individual brony sees it.

Overall, I'm pretty much neutral about it.

It's pretty cool, just not my thing to dress up as an animal, whether  that be just ears and tail or fursuit. It's fine, I have nothing against them. Sadly, there are always perverse people in all fandoms, so there is some misconception there.

I don't have any quarrels at the basis of the whole thing, they're similar to bronies in a few ways, although i don't believe being a brony = being a furry since furries like anthro creatures.

I should clarify that "anthro" applies to MLP as well. A lot of people seem to think anthro means characters such as Bugs Bunny or The Beast because they are bipedal and whatnot, and because this is how it is used quite often, that is easy to think. It is actually short for anthropomorphism which is the idea of giving human traits to anything other than a human. This does not require the thing being projected on to walk on two legs or even talk for that matter. The fact that the ponies in MLP do talk and carry on social lives such as having parties, jobs, baking, and so on means they are classified as being anthropomorphic.

I do agree that those who enjoy MLP should not automatically be classified as Furries though.

Personally I am both a furry and a fursuiter. Furry is the term of the fanf\dom as brony or pegasister while those who enjoy costuming are called furusiters ; ) Only like 25% of all furries have a costume. Most does not have any interest in owning one and some just can't because of the heat. Either way. Many furries I know LOVE MLP. including me   :D

I know there also excist MLP furusits like this

http://atalonthedeer.deviantart.com/art/Vinyl-Scratch-DJ-Pony-MLP-Fursuit-336207797

I have NO idea how the ventilation work and I have to admit moving around in one seems pretty hard since they lack fingers.

So yeah. I can admit I have met some weeeird furries there who take  the fandome waaay to serious and there IS some drama now and then, but beside that we are mostly normal people who enjoy animals and cartoons etc.  ^^

My fursuit : http://felixcani.deviantart.com/art/Christmas-fursuit-reference-375399632 Also They cost a FORTUNE! So if you ever run into one plese be gentle ^^

That is an awesome Vinyl suit, though I agree it would be weird without fingers. That's a very cool suit you have as well. Would love to have one of one of my characters, but as you mention they are very costly so don't think I'll ever be able to justify one. Would be cool though just because of the joy they can bring people. I've read many a story about people wearing them to children's hospitals and such to cheer people up who are having a rough time.

As for the comment about "weeeird furries"... EVERY fandom has that. I don't care if it's a fandom for the number 8, I'm sure there would be some very strange subgroups within the fandom that anyone on the outside would question. But as I say, to each their own and it's none of my business until you try to forcefully involve me.

And in case it wasn't obvious, I suppose you could consider me a "Furry". Though just like the whole "Brony" thing, I'd prefer you didn't call me that. I'm one against all kinds of labels though, I just don't see the need in classifying myself something because I like something. I never understood it among Star Trek fans, and I still don't understand it today with Furries or Bronies. Nor should you judge me, or anyone else in a "questionable" fandom, just because of biased media or someone in the past has wronged you. Not everyone is the same just because of the fandoms they partake (or race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). Just like the MLP fandom, much good comes from other fandoms as well like money being raised and stuff (which is always neglected and ignored in those biased media reports that just want to incite fear).

Thank you so much for reading and yes weirdos in every fandoms unfortunatly, buut wee can ignore em ^^

And yes! We Furries do good stuff too. Like these where I furusited at an elderly home. They all seemed to brighten up and get more lively. It was such a great day.

And when I met a mother of a blind boy who wanted me to meet him. All those times I go out I make someone elses day better it seems. Taking photos with them and entertain ; ) That's why I do it. NO other reason really. And I think it is fun  ^^

Those are some great pics! Stuff like that is what needs to be spread around more so people are better informed and don't just jump to conclusions because they see a fursuit or hear the word "Furry".

Well I'm not a furry myself. If I find a furry image on the internet I sometimes think it's cute depending on how they look. A few of them might even look sexy :P

But nah it's not something I am a super big fan of. I don't look it up or anything.

I don't have anything against people who love furry stuff at all. I don't think it's that weird. :)

Not always.

(this is a fursuit, and that's a man dressed as a woman.)

  Jesus Christ why people allways have to choose weirdest things... Bronies are for me SAME as furries... they have characters, they roleplay, they draw/make music they also have weird parts of fandom, like bronies do... and they like animals instead on show for kids (which part sounds weirder?) and + they make costumes of their characters, because they want bring them to life. (Their characters are parts of their life)

... which dont have to be weird like that one above, they can look awsome like

Don't really care about furries.  I only don't want to be classified as one.  If I identified as a furry, I would have already drawn humanoid animals, but I hate the human form so I don't see the appeal of giving animals a more human-like form.

Let me correct you... furry fandom ist about anthro animals... its just about animals... depends on people if they make their characters "anthro" (humanoids) or just animals... with animal characteristics and nothing more

Wait, which one is it?  From what I know, furries are people who draw anthro animals.  Otherwise, everyone would be a furry if I'm not mistaken.

Have you read the wikipedia definition of "furry fandom" ? because this is what it says... and it isnt true at all...there are a lot of different people and not all of them consider them as furry for same reason. You can also draw animals but that doesnt make you a furry... its hard to explain but furry fandom isnt just about anthro animals. its just part of it. furries are poeple who love animals ... they can have feeling that they would love to be more animals than humans... they are just furrys at hearts...or they just have their characters which become part of their life.. they draw them, make costumes of them... or just roleplay. So many reasons... some furrys are furry just because they enjoy furry cartoons or comics or even books.
and also, these characters CAN be anthro or they can be just animals...

and for some of them, furry fandom can be just "runaway" from reality ...:)

Okay, so basically, it all comes down to ''Do I identify as a furry?''.  Like a furry is someone who labels themselves as a furry.  Like anything including labels.
