Will Spike get wings someday?

Spike is still very young, but will he be able to fly one day? He was the only dragon without a pair (of wings) in Dragon Quest, but even his kind didn't understand why he didn't. Will he? and why wasn't he born with them?

He does in 1 or 2 episodes, but I'm pretty sure he won't get them as the show is kinda a "snapshot in time" where they don't get any older.

 

But he would definitely get some eventually as he grew up as a dragon in the proper way (not by the different methods scene in the show).

Also, no. I don't think that Equestrian dragons (or any kind of dragons) develop their wings over time. That'd be like growing a pair of extra arms, could you imagine how painful that would be? O_e I think they're born with or without them, personally.

I don't think anybody knows the answer to either of those questions, I'd like to see an episode that answers those questions where we finally found out some background to Spike but so far we haven't had one other than Dragon Quest which kinda didn't totally answer the big question about Spike

It's possible spike might get wings when he's older. it's also possible that spike may come from a different species of dragon so that might explain why he doesn't have wings now.

I seriously doubt it. I believe that the rule of ponies (there being three kinds) there are two kinds of dragons. The Winged and the Non winged. Remember in the Great Dragon Migration, there were teen dragons that had wings? Well, Spike is like 7-8 years younger than them, so I believe a dragon would have to be born with wings.

Well if you look at mythology there are many types of dragons. So its possible that Spike is just a dragon that doesn't grow wings.

Maybe, but good dragons age slowly, unlike evil dragons who age quicker!

 

He'll remain good throughout the series learning from his mistakes, and maybe we'll see some wing development for him in the future!

 

PS: I'm assuming by the time he gets wings, THIS will happen...

For the most part, the show seems like a snapshot, but Twilight got wings and it happened after learning about friendship for a long time. Maybe it would just have to be in something big like a finally.

Well, when spike was greedy, he went from baby dragon to adult dragon, and we still didnt see wings, so chances are no. However, we didnt know that twilight had a brother until the season 2 finale, so I would say its up in the air

I think it'd be cool if Spike was a subspecies of Dragon who don't have wings. If Spike ever gets an episode where he really discovers his heritage, it'd be an interesting little tidbit.

I dunno, to me, Spike is like... Maybe around 8, or 10? I guess maybe it'd be possible to see him get wings either in later seasons (if the show crew wants him to).

There is a lot of mystery around Spike, to be honest. Where did the school get that egg for Twilight's test? Did every applicant need to go through that test, and if so did they all fail before her or are there lots more dragons wandering around Canterlot? Why does Spike not have wings? Why were the teenage dragons confused about Spike not having wings? Why does his fire 'transport' objects to Celestia? Can he send that stuff anywhere, or can only Celestia intercept them? The growth through greed, is that really a dragon thing, or just a Spike thing? The teenage dragons didn't seem to work that way. Why is there *no* information about Dragons in Twilight's library? That's a freaking huge gap of knowledge and I can't see Twilight standing for that under normal circumstances.

 

Something hinky is going on with Spike. There is a good chance that Spike is *not* a standard Equestrian Dragon, but something else.

Well the reason why he wasn't born with them was because back in the original mlp (not mlp:fim) Spike (along with AJ were the only characters to remain the same name wise), did not have any wings back then.  Lauren decided to keep it like it was and so he has no wings today.

 

As for Spike getting wings later.  I'm not sure that he will as it has been stated numerous times before, I believe that you have to be born with wings as a dragon.  The only way that I see him possibly getting wings is if they put him through a test of some sort and he passes and he gets them as a reward spontaneously... Kinda like Twilight becoming an alicorn and all...

Done the road, I'm 100% sure we'll be getting a full blown dragon-centered two-parter that heavily features Spike.

 

My [only half joking] guess? Spike is a Dragon Messiah destined to overcome his identity crisis, embrace both his heritage and adoptive pony-ism, and unite the two races in a harmony unseen since before the Dark Age. That Celestia just so happened to come into possession of the egg that would eventually hatch the future savior of Equestria was pure luck...

Most likely not because Spike was not born with wings he well not just magically get wing one day. When he grew in, Secret of my excess he did not grow any kinda of wings. Meaning he could be a dragon that gets around by just walking and not flying.

Spike could probaly use some more backstory. I mean he has so much odd mystery surrounding him..

 

I honestly always just believed he is a dragon species without wings, if he was able to grow wings I would've thought he'd have them after aging from greed, in the normal way dragons age.

Don't forget, he seems to be able to use his fire to magically store things in some type of "buffer" like he does with his Dragon Code card as seen in Spike at Your Service. He is able to summon the card at will and "breaths" it away again. I'm assuming he didn't send that to celestia.

As for that, I firmly believe that Spike was never meant to have wings, at any stage in his life. A huge clue is given in "Cutie Mark Chronicles" during Twilight's initiation test:

 

 

Spike is a wingless dragon, simple as that.
