Opinion on Twilight and Flash Sentry

I don't normally ship...but i think Twilight and Flash look cute together...And i like their shipping name, FlashLight Lol. Anyways, i hope they have him inside season 4...I thought they were real cute together in Equestria Girls

BTW, am I the first person to come up with Flashlight? I saw some posts making fun of the shipping name after I made my original forum post about it before this topic.

I don't have much interest in it personally. A massive part of how much involvement I have in a shipping pair revolves around how interested I am in how they interact as characters. They need to both mesh together in a (relatively) unique way and I need to be able to picture how a relationship between them would actually work. This ship really doesn't do it for me in that way. They were blatantly interested in each other, as proven by all their scenes together being them both blushing and one of them doing something awkward. But if that's all that I have to go on then, no. I'd need a bit more info on Flash to determine whether I'd like to see him and Twilight as a couple. I don't mind it if others ship them, but I'll be sticking to my personal OTPs of RainbowPie and RariJack.

I personally thought it was adorable. Seeing Twilight act like an awkward acorn and nervously blush when around him made me smile so grand. She's such a cutie! I really hope that Flash won't be forgotten in the future.

 

I'd also like to say that this is a fine example of how shipping in MLP can work, and not be totally excruciating to watch. *cough* G2 *cough*

Should be noted, that Flash Sentry is the Pegusis, and Twilight Sparkle's brother married Cadence, who was born a Pegusis.

While they may not be canonically interested in each other, I do support my ships because of canonical material. RainbowPie (going to focus on this one, since it's my absolute favorite) comes from several things, but primarily the episodes Griffon the Brush Off and Wonderbolt Academy. In the first one, Pinkie raves about how amazing Dash is, and spends most of the episode wanting to spend time with her or upset because she can't. Her behavior reminded me a lot of somebody with a crush. And in the other episode, Pinkie happily glomps Dash, obsesses over her for the entire episode, and hops into her hooves and nuzzles her at the end of it. Again, it seemed a lot like somebody with a crush. Somebody once wrote a lengthy explanation of why they like the pairing that I agree entirely with here. Just because romantic interest between two characters isn't canonical doesn't mean that you can't see basis for some, and I like the idea of RainbowPie far more than the reality of FlashLight. You may disagree, and thats fine.

I don't really disagree with you. In fact you're making me see things from a new perspective. At least somebrony finally realizes the hypocrisy of Lyrabon and Octascratch shippers. 

 

I never said that there is nothing at all to use as a basis for shipping the Mane 6 since they are so well developed. I was just trying to point out that instances where they were certainly close were not ship tease moments, just friendly moments. Some bronies believe said moments are actually canon for the ponies crushing on each other, I assumed you were one of them. But since you just use these moments as an example to develop your fan pairing while knowing they're not actually in love within the show, I'm fine really.

 

I totally get why it's easy to ship the Mane 6, I just think bronies should stop seeing close moments as canon romance and stop debunking shipping pairings for having no substance while they ship Fluttershy and Big Mac or Spitfire and Applejack when they have hardly, maybe never, actually interacted.

I think FlashLight is a cute name for them and while I think it'd be good if Flash got more development it sounds at least for next season that won't happen ,( but then again she only sometimes goes to Canterlot anyway) that I still think they're a cute couple. I prefer canon ships since in a sense they are the "real possible couples". Otherwise it seems like a lot of shippers take things that close friends(this seems especially true with when girls on the main characters) do and say " oh they clearly love each other romantically!"(in general with shows).

It goes something like this: 

 

Twilight, completely shocked at not having access to her magic, being in a completely new environment, her friends not recognizing her, and potentially never seeing her real friends again, attatched herself to the only person who actually cared for her.  Then, coming home, she sees the pony flash and is reminded of the human who helped her out.

 

Now, since Meghan said that Flash won't return in S4, we can presume that Pony Flash and Twilight didn't continue their relationship past maybe puppy love.

 

So Twilight is grateful, but has no long standing romantic interest.

I am one of those people who would like to see Flash Sentry in the show in season 5 or later. As long as they developed his relationship with Twilight properly.

 

However, if they never did put him in the show, what you explained is how I imagine it working out in the end.

I'm torn in my opinion about these two. On one hand, the logical side of me dismisses the side plot as redundant and Flash as a flat character only there to be a love interest for Twilight. On the other hand, the concept of romance in MLP is interesting, and could make for some good lessons. While I'd hate for the show to become focused on the romance side of things, I wouldn't have a problem with an episode or two. If Flashlight was to return in MLP someday, I'd hope that the relationship between Twilight and Flash be developed more, as well as Flash himself.

Indeed, I too found Flash Sentry to be extremely bland and uninteresting, but still very annoying at the same time.
He was the "Generic goog guy"-douchebag... you know, the kind you would see in films like "Airborne", for example.
People who like --or god forbid-- even love this character, PLEASE explain to me why!

He was pretty noble in the film. I don't think obnoxious was the right word. I guess why some people like him is because he's apparently a healthy example of a male love interest while other bronies hate him because he was either too underdeveloped or that Twilight didn't end up with their OTP.

 

I think Flash had potential, makes a cute ship with Twilight, but is too underdeveloped and like Sunset Shimmer, I don't want him to appear in the show because he served his purpose.

I thought is was a great cute nod at the end of the movie, but I don't think it'll be something they make a big deal about it later. Doing so might ruin the specialness of that moment XD

Either way, aside from the EqG movie, I would really like to see Flash Sentry again in another one-off special or something like that. But I do agree that having him as a recurring pony in the main series from now on - in other words, a love interest for our main character - would be a very very very risky move from the creator's part.

 

After all, even the harmless Spike+Rarity canon drives a whole bunch of fans crazy! God knows what would happen if Flash Sentry started messing around with Twilight's heart the main series as well.

I'd say that the shipping is not that good and not that bad either. (( Heh, it's more worse than good. )) I mean, if Flash Sentry wasn't in the movie, it wouldn't make much of a difference, even when he proven that Twilight didn't make the mess in the gymnasium. Any of Twilight's friends could've proven her not guilty. It's probably for selling toys. So, actually, I don't support it that much.
