If you could date anypony from the forums...

since a lot of Rarity fans get mistaken for girls on this site ~

I'm gonna be dead honest here, I tend to think that everypony on this forum, regardless of Rarity fan or not, is female(Besides me of course).

Is it just me, or does anypony else think like this too?

I recall a post, don't know which thread, where someone said people tend to act nice to blend in IRL, whereas they're not afraid to show their true face online. And I think I replied saying that people gather in groups to do bad things in private, and then behave themselves in public.

I'm the one who said that.

Personally, I have learned over time to always assume that the other people are male ,unless told otherwise, whenever I'm on the Internet. And this is regardless of which website I'm on.

Wasn't there a rule of the Internet...?

Yeah, they could be acting like everyone else IRL just to increase their chances of blending in. I've been looking for that other thread I was talking about, but I don't know which keywords to use.

Also, yes, I know people do this. I don't mean that, I mean that people often stop trying to blend in when they're around people they know really well. I have friends who are like that, they stay quiet and try to remain largely unnoticed in public, but when it's just us hanging out, they're totally different. You can see what they're really like in that situation. I'm sure some people act like themselves on the Internet, but many don't.

I have nothing against it, I just think it's weird. You can't have the same interaction with someone online as you can in person. And I don't mean physically. There are just so many aspects of a relationship that talking to someone online or on the phone can't capture. You can't go do things with somebody you only know online. There's no body language, there're no shared experiences. And how do you know that's how they are, really? Plenty of people act a lot different online than they do IRL, they could be a totally different person. It's so much easier to lie when a relationship is solely online, or any sort of long distance, really. Relationships have a late foundation in trust, and in my opinion, that kind of trust can't be built except in person. The fact that you claim to have built this trust in less than a year over the Internet makes no sense to me whatsoever. Now, I know I'm not a very trusting person, but still.

And though I don't want to get into it right now, people throw around the word "love" far too much these days. Very few relationships last long, and the "love" they feel for each other is rarely real.

what the fuck

what the fuck

okay, first of all, you're making it sound like i know nothing about him, and he knows nothing about me. and that's bogus. i didn't 'just' fall in love with him, it took me months before i came to that conclusion. i wasn't always gay as i've said before, i considered myself straight before that happened. in hindsight, i was confused, confused as hell, about my sexuality, and who i was, and was fantasizing about a fictional woman i could never, ever get, but it did so in my mind, and that lulled me into a twisted kind of comfort. thanks to Feathers, i was able to get away from that.

but anyways, that's not the point here. what the point is are your arguments, and what fallacies they have.

for starters, about physical interaction. why should it matter at all? i've won the affection of several people on the forums here, not just Feathers, through my actions here on the forums, through my very own words, i won their hearts and became their friends. same applies to my love for Feathers, though this is on a deeper level, but, after all, love is just the next step from a close relationship.

no shared experiences? bollocks, i told Feathers EVERYTHING that had pained me during my time of depression waaay back then. again, using only my typed WORDS. he told me that he had had similar experiences as i had, and thus, he could relate to how awful i felt back then, and thus, he could help me get FREE from all that. that way, thanks to sharing our experiences with each other, we grew closes to each other, just as well as you could do IRL.

people on the online just 'say' that they are this and that? name a few people, please! EVERY guy i've met online has acted exactly the way that they are, they are extremely open about themselves online, moreso than they are IRL. including myself, i am terribly anxious and hide the real 'me' in public because out of fear, but online, i can be who i am, i am not afraid to be who i am here. and so do a lot of people. a lot of people who act like who they are in public are, in most cases, actually HIDING who they actually are. and because relationships are built on a lot of trust depending on each other, that makes a bad combo, right?

speaking of trust, you say you can't get why i am able to build up all this trust towards Feathers during that year. well, let me tell you something then! it took me just a few MONTHS to do that, not a whole year!

i trusted him because he was the ONLY GUY on that ENTIRE forum that showed ANY kind of compassion towards how utterly awful i felt. he PMed me and said i could talk to him whenever i wanted to about this.

that had NEVER happened to me EVER before. even if i didn't talk to him at first, i knew i could trust him on that forum. why? because HE was the ONLY guy who EVER took the time to actually CARE about my problems, which, as i said, had NEVER happened to me before. and after talking to him a lot back and forth in due time, my trust wasn't mislead.

and love. yes, people flung around the word 'love' nowadays like monkeys do with their own faeces. love is a LOT more than just physical attraction, and people don't take the time to really KNOW each other nowadays fully, which is why there are a lot of divorces nowadays, because people are too hastily to jump onto the marriage bandwagon that they regret that decision in due time.

but the love i feel towards Feathers... i KNOW it is true. because even if i know how he looks like, and yes, he is a handsome guy, i don't JUST lust for him. i fell in love with EVERYTHING about him... he made every single day of mine better, and so did i towards him, he has said. we love each other with all of our hearts, and we trust each other completely. i want nothing more than to live with him forever and ever.

and YOU seem to tell me that it's not going to be that way? i'm sorry if i have misread you here, but i find that to be complete bollocks, what you say.

once again, love is love. love knows no boundaries, and it can happen anywhere, at anytime. you can't restrict it to IRL relationships only, because it can happen online just as well as it can IRL. i am one prior example for that.

It's easier t fake who you really are online and keep up the lie(s)

then in real life,

where people can better fact check your life. ~

Sure people can fake who they are in person too,

but it's a lot easier to do it online and keep it up,

whereas in person your true colours can't be kept hidden for long. (: ~

tl;dr I agree with your statements on this subject.

I'd also like to mention what Starlighty said,

about her relationship getting awkward once she met Discordian in person,

this is true for a lot of online relationships.

As much as people want to deny it,

we have physical bodies and are physical beings,

and our relationships need a physical aspects.

The 'love' chemical in our brain is created when we are HELD by the person we love etc etc. ~

Woah, I'm not female! I'm male! If I was female, then how would a relationship with Trixie work?

Personally, I have learned over time to always assume that the other people are male ,unless told otherwise, whenever I'm on the Internet. And this is regardless of which website I'm on.

I know the moment I begin to do that I'll somehow screw it up and offend somepony.

Besides, wheres the fun in assuming everypony is male? : P

I am not going to take sides in this argument, but I will offer up my own perspective on long-distance relationships: there's a lot that can be hidden that you won't necessarily see when you are separated from your partner. I was in a long-distance relationship myself for over three years, and it took a visit to that person to realize I'd never truly known them at all. I was lied to about their age, about the general way in which they thought of me, as well as their general mental state. I was hurt and abused throughout that relationship, only I didn't see it because I was a bit too desperate for affection to throw it away. Three years, and I never truly knew that person at all.

HOWEVER

I am not saying that my experience is the be all and end all, that which always happens in long-distance relationships. Many are quite successful, many end up truly wonderful, in fact. Like any relationship, it's about give and take, about what you are willing to share with your partner versus what they are willing to share with you.

I personally would not seek another long distance relationship because of my past experiences, because I feel I could not trust a partner unless I could actually see them in person on a regular basis. But that is me, because of my experiences and because of my psychological state. Others can and will differ.

I think Evilshy is not saying that attraction is the only way to fall in love, but you have to be at least remotely attracted to the person you are with.

Your response is a little bias,

if you began an irl relationship with Feathers, things might not work out as wonderfully as you may have hoped,

especially since it's been online for so long.

It's hard to judge since you don't have a lot (or any?) experience with irl relationships.

So there is no point in arguing it, since in time you will learn for yourself what Evilshy is trying to say.

Anyway, nopony is attacking you

But hey, if you're happy with it, who am I to judge?

Agree to disagree and time will reveal all truths ~
