Why do some bronies seem to hate Princess Celestia?

I don't hate Celestia, I just much prefer Luna.

I like night time, and all things associated with night. I always have - it is just a peaceful time for me honestly.

 

But as far as her character goes, I think she is quite mysterious. Celestia is always present, I am familiar with her already. But Luna - she's an anomaly.

Well, Celestia is my favorite pony of all time. She is so beautiful and majestic, so I really don't have any idea why people dislike her.

We don't really hate her. It's just fun to make sport of authority figures and Celestia is the biggest one on the show. Plus some of us doubt her leadership and teaching qualities, with good reason IMO.

Tell you the truth I don't hate her at all.... I love her to death, I love her just as much as I love Luna... and as for sending Luna to the moon well that most killed Celestia, think about it you have to send the one you love so much so far away from you for 1000 years and then you must take there place that's not a easy thing to deal with not even for Celestia... don't see why so many ponies hate her I for one think she is one of the best princess around...

I've never noticed people "hating" on Celestia. I just see people goggling over Luna. (Myself included)

 

I guess I have seen some Luna fanatics accusing Celestia of being an "evil tyrant" for imprisoning her younger sister, but what else was she to do? That seems to be the most logical thing she could have done at the time. Celestia isn't at fault here. Only Luna is.

I don't dislike Celestia at all or any of the Princesses for that matter. I think they all serve their purpose as developed secondary/tertiary characters. I really don't understand why there is so much hate for the princesses I mean come on Luna and Celestia have hair that moves and waves on its own!

No one hates Celestia, as far as I know. I know that plenty of people think she's boring. People just tell jokes because it's funny. I think Molestia is my personal favorite. But I do think Celestia is one of the better characters. The problem is that she's too damn perfect.

I don't think people HATE her, it's more just joking about her. She is a bit of a Mary Sue at times, so people naturally want to tarnish her name. Molestia, Trollestia and Tyranical Celestia are just alter-egos made to poke fun at her really. To me, it's kind of like King Harkinian from the Phillips CD-I games, where people have turned the once nobel king into a complete idiot.

When I look at the princesses we already had, she looks more like a queen. Maybe a bit elderly. The others are easy look at as adorable, but I feel that Princess Celestia is a little too old to seem as adorable. I see her as grand, not adorable.

I do prefer Princess Luna but I don't hate Celestia. I argued in another thread on this topic that Celestia needs to be unchanging, perfect, etc. to fill her role as the God-like ruler. As a result, she's an easy target for the teasing, etc.

I think any actual hatred is few and far between (how much vitriol could someone have for a cartoon pony princess, anyway?). Jokes is all. That she hasn't had much screentime probably makes her seem bland to some, enigmatic to me. I actually kinda' like that she's a bit underdeveloped, leaves a lot of blank spaces for we in the fandom to fill in. Like how would she be after a few mugs of cider  ? Wait, that's probably how Molestia happens... (joking, joking!)

 

I quite like her myself (well, I like ALL of them), and I think she could use some more love.

No. I've never hated celestia. I actually kind of dislike luna. I've always thought that celestia was funny (because of her trolling the mane 6).

I like Celestia well enough, I suppose. And although I know it's just fan humor, I'm still just a little mystified as to where the idea that she's a troll even came from. The only remotely trollish thing I recall her doing was tricking the Cakes into overfilling her teacup, and even then, that struck me as more mischievous than trollish. Real trolling, at least to me, is hallmarked by the intent to deliberately piss someone off, which I've never seen Celestia do, so...yeah, still mystified.

 

As far as Luna, I don't adore her the way everyone else seems to, but again, I like her well enough. In her case, I find appeal in her being like some tragic Greek figure, yearning for redemption in a society that still largely mistrusts and/or fears her for her deeds as Nightmare Moon. And even as a villain, she was (to me) a sympathetic villain in that you really felt for her as a harshly sidelined character, woefully underappreciated for bringing the gift of night - a time of serenity and reflection - to the world.

 

Between her, Celestia and Cadance, Luna's the princess I'd most like to see get fleshed out over the coming season, personally.

Celestia is my Favorite Princess, for reasons I can't explain. I really like her Voice Actress, and I think she delivers a monarch voice very well.

I don't think anyone hates her. She just sometimes doesn't make sense. Almost all examples of her acting weird have been stated in the above comments, but I'd like to add that scene in Feeling Pinkie Keen where she comes out of the sky randomly.

I for one think Celestia is awesome. She is a great mentor, and has a great voice too. I like Luna and Cadence too. I like them all equally. I'm not in love with any of them though, its not like they are better then any of the mane 6 in any way.
As much as I like Luna and her adorable awkardness and her ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE I think she is a bit overrated.

Never once disliked her; she's actually kind of original-ish for a Big Good (Dumbledore-like mastermind, not OP (as evidenced by her Worf Effect in "A Canterlot Wedding," though she seemed to make up for it by being able to enchant the EOH against Discord in "Keep Calm And Flutter On"), surprisingly sexy Nicole Oliver voice, etc.).

 

P.S.- Do NOT mention Molestia/Tyranlestia/etc. in front of Nicole Oliver; one convention-goer found out why the hard way.
