What did you think of Bronies before you started watching the show?

I really should make a 'how and when I became a Brony' post or blog. I've been meaning to do that for a bit.

My first reactions have to be separated

BEFORE I KNOW THE TERM BRONY

"Ok, what are all these Pony images, and how come no one let me in on the joke?"

AFTER FIGURING THAT PART OUT

"Oh, this is all about Fausts new show. Did she actually make MLP cool?"

"Damn there is a lot of hate toward these guys. It's a damn cartoon ... not a political movement"

"Wait? This song was created by fans? All of these were? THIS show hasn't even been out 6 months ... and they have more remixes than freaking STAR WARS?!!!"

Two words;

I didn't think anything negative about them. I just couldn't comprehend why freaking My Little Pony was so popular among grown-ups all of a sudden.

Then I watched the show myself...

I didn't hate them nor liked them i actually defended them in the argument section of battlelog saying "no one has the control over the mind of the other! They like what ever they want its not like that your their father or something"  also why get uber butthurt about a guy that likes a show for girls? hell when sailor moon was aired on tv some grown men liked it also when dragon ball was also aired "i shit you not" me and my mother used to watch it all the time

I thought they were odd, but harmless.

I was not aware of their existence, and this was after season 2 but before season 3. By this time, the fandom was pretty established on the internet.

honestly I had no idea what bronies were and then I saw one of my friends have a luna shirt on and then asked him what that was and then told me to watch the first one and they said that they bet me $10 that I would end up watching the whole season and then more................I ended up losing $10!!!

I knew about the show and I watched it from time to time, but I didn't get invested into it as quickly because I thought Bronies were a bunch a a-holes. When I heard news about a Brony, it was mostly when they were being those creepy "nice guys" that just wanted to get in your pants, insulting my religion/race, or those guys that try to push away the show's targeted demographic. I knew they couldn't all be like that, but there was so much bad stuff that I kept away from the fandom.

I still see a lot of that now, but I know most Bronies are pretty decent people.

My thoughts, because of various things that turned up on the internet, were not good, even after I became a fan of MLPFiM.

It took seeing the brony community come together at bronycon in the film "Bronies: The Unexpected Fans of MLP" to change my mind.

Before I watched that, I wouldn't tell people I was even a fan of the show, concerned they would lump me in with the "bronies" I'd conjured in my mind, but after I saw that, I have no problem telling people I'm a brony. If they don't like it, buck 'em. :muffins:

I never heard of a brony until a few months ago, when I looked up gender stereotyping in toy for a paper, and bronies popped up frequently. I never thought of it too much, but defended bronies in the paper. It didn't cross my mind again until June, when I watched it with my little brother at his house with his 2 year old sister. Now I'm a huge fan, and just finished catching up on the series this morning.

As the Title says I wanted to know what you oppinion on Bronies was before you got hooked on the show.

If it was positive or negative etc.

Well I didn't know much about the fandom nor did I have a real oppinion it was just there.

What about you?

honestly I was never sure what to think of bronies as a girl I assumed that they were mainly a race of men that liked my little pony and that there was no such thing as a female brony (or pegasister as I prefer to be called) I thought the show was really centered towards little kids until a friend brony showed me the series and then I got hooked cause it was just such a positive experience :)

When I first heard of bronies I actually wasn't that surprised at all. I thought gender equality was becoming more mainstream so I figured something like that would happen eventually. And throughout my childhood, I thought it would be neat if boys liked girl stuff too.

I had a rather negative opinion of bronies when I first heard about them. I was wondering why an adult, especially a guy, would watch a show that was “so girly”. I didn’t think they were dangerous or anything like that but I just thought they were a little weird.

I thought the obsession was kinda odd initially, but I never had anything against it.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
