I don't even know what "American Cheese" is. There are many kinds of cheese, and I like some of them more than the others, but I haven't seen any labeled as American.

I prefer Swiss. I like light, mild cheese. And even though American is mild, it’s not really true cheese but a ‘cheese food product.’ I do love it on burgers though, and it goes great on a liverwurst sammich.

In Europe, we think of "American cheese" as the semi-wet stuff that you put on burgers. I have no idea if that's what this poll means, but if so then Swiss wins by a mile as it's actually an edible product. Anyone who knows me knows that being British I love to one-up the French on a regular basis, and while I do like our offering of cheeses I must sadly concede that French cheese is far and away the best in the world. So, in response to the poll I say secret option number three: French.

i have to go with swiss (even though it tastes like nothing) cause american cheese is horrible on it's own (i like it in a burger though, cause it distracts from the horrible parts)

Ive heard Swiss smells like a foot  . But I’ve had it and had no trouble with it.

I pass. American cheese tastes like plastic. And I never liked the bland flavor and texture of swiss cheese. You could use that thing to waterproof your house.
For me it is either mozzarella, roquefort or grated parmesan. Personality and body.
