Snips and Snails as sidekicks for the villans

Courageous Thunder Dash

Alright this has been nagging me from Episode 6 of season 1

Why is it that Snips and Snails are always the sidekicks for some of the antagonists?

Is it that they're the most gullible? Is it that they just want attention?

Your thoughts?

They obviously aren't the brightest ponies so they can easily be persuaded one way or another.

Sometimes they think what they're doing is for the better but in reality it isn't. I guess you could say thier innocent In a way.

i think it's because they are not the smartest of characters, and are therefore very easy to mislead.

they are not evil, they just don't know what they are doing :P

Gotta agree with this :)!

Its like the perfect role for them, although it does make there characters a little shallow and un-developed which is a bit of a shame. Maybe they can address this with a future episode?

Would be awesome to see a Snips and Snails episode. Besides, they have great potential for teaching lessons about who to follow and being a leader.

I agree that Snips and Snails are really gullible. I also think that they are role playing in a sense. Do any of you remember as kids how you used to pretend, and you'd have good guys and bad guys? I think it's the same thing with Snips and Snails. They play the role of sidekicks for fun: hint how they smother Trixie with long aliases and rush to get her what she wanted. As a kid, I can sometimes remember doing some things close to that in the spirit of the game.

"You have to establish the horizon. You have to mark the white. A simple enough act, you might say, but any act that re-makes the world is heroic. Or so I've come to believe."

They mindlessly follow the "Coolest" pony. And it's not like they're unusual for that, as there would be many times when a normal person would follow someone evil. For example, if Discord existed, I would have so much respect for him that I might even serve him!

I think, writers used Snips and Snails to demonstrate that only idiots can fall for Trixie's bragging.

And that was REALLY CHEAP.

I'm not one of those haters of "Boast Busters" episode, but that lame move from writers I really dislike.

I think it is in part because they are not the sharpest tools in the shed. They also fit the role of henchmen perfectly. They obey mindlessly and flatter the antagonists (who are usually just trying to stroke their own egos). They also add an element of comic relief, and their blunders often help the Mane 6 overcome the problem.

I don't care, I hate these characters.
They act mindlessly and are too exaggerated. Those kind of characters are not even funny but pathetic, because they are so stupid they can make much trouble to protagonists as well to antagonists which they follow and can be one of the main reasons of villain failure.

The only reason they act like this is their stupidity.

The villains sidekicks don't have to be smart or serious, but they should be better developed if they play a little bigger role.

They aren't really considered sidekicks. They seem to cause more trouble then 'help' them. Plus, they act more like followers and minions than actual sidekicks. I don't have a problem with that, but they act so mindlessly; it's like they are zombies when it comes to some of the stuff they do.

Sidekicks is a bit of an overstatement. I think "minions" is a more accurate term here. Sidekicks are more like partners, not mindless doormats.

But yeah. Maybe they're just sheep and suck up to the pony that shows the most dominance.
