Doctor Whooves episode in season 4

I actually heard a rumor of DHX and Hasbro purchasing the rights from BBC to work on a crossover episode, however like anything on the internet it should be take with a very very small grain of sodium chloride. I don't foresee an episode like this happening in the future, and personally I'm perfectly content with the multiple references and nods that they are already giving us on a regular basis.

I really don't think there will ever be an episode devoted to a background pony. The most we'll see of them are standout, cameo appearances in the background. The devs only have so much control and can only shout out to the fanbase to such an extent.

Star Trek: The Next Generation changed considerable over the years of it's broadcast with characters maturing, being added, and removed over time. The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad! flared out years and years ago, and are only alive now due to inertia and the broadcasters wanting to eek out every last cent from the franchise. I wouldn't wish that fate on any show.

Yes, the DHX staff can last until the end of Season 6 coasting on what they've already done. But if they want to keep going after that point, they need to set the precedents now rather than waiting for Season 7. Once that milestone has been reached, they will have doubled what any prior MLP series had ever done, and I believe what any other Hasbro property ever reached under a single studio. Previously Hasbro shops around after 65 episodes in an effort to lower their expenses, switching to lower-cost studio with new (and cheaper) VAs, writers, and whatnot. If, however, DHX can point back at what they've *already* done to set up for continuing sustainability, without a huge increase in expenses over time (Especially if there are some built-in benefits to Hasbro with regards to their toy line being refreshed similarly with minimal outlay on their part.) then Hasbro could be convinced to keep going.

If however, DHX waits and holds all this stuff for a theoretical Season 7, in their collective minds Hasbro has no real reason to *not* switch studios, which they have done so successfully (from their perspective) in the past. It'd be G4.5, or G5, depending.

DHX/Hub/Hasbro has the opportunity to break the Toy Show Generation tradition here, and move MLP into updating with smaller increments, a G4.1 (or even better G4.01) allowing for a more long-term sustainable business that does not have the risks that were instrumental in the MLP G2 disaster. Change is going to happen, one way or another. Doing smaller changes slowly over time will be a lot less shocking to the fanbase, Hasbro investors, and all other interested parties. Yes, there will be blowback, because a number of vocal bronies get seriously bent out of shape on a regular basis, but honestly that's going to happen anyway.

I think you're missing my point entirely. MLP;FiM does not need to be cancelled at Season 4 and replaced by background ponies.

You don't believe it should be cancelled at Season 4 and replaced by background ponies. Yes, I got that. I don't believe it should either. I believe there's plenty of room left to explore with the current characters up to the end of Season 6, if DHX keeps at the pace they have been going with Season 1-3.

But I also think that they might not get that chance if DHX doesn't deliberately try to expand the cast slowly, put normally background ponies into the foreground on occasion, and explore new regions of the world in Season 4, I think they run the risk of Hasbro deciding to swap DHX out with a cheaper studio with cheaper VAs, artists, and writers in order to 'refresh' the franchise that is 'getting stale'. Hasbro is getting used to the current state of sales and viewer growth as normal and any drop, or even a plateau, will be seem as a failure. That's the way corporations work, unfortunately, and Hasbro's track record with it's animated properties shows that that is the way their collective mind thinks. This may have changed, but it's unlikely.

Luckily, the show staff have indicated that they are attempting to be ambitious with Season 4, so Hasbro (and the fandom) shouldn't have the chance to get bored with the show once it starts up again. If they set up the new block of Season 4-6 correctly, expand on what they've built, and change enough of the show to keep it 'fresh' enough, we will be able to go on to Season 7-9, and possibly beyond.

I know. And I'm saying I'm very, very strongly against ending FiM after the 4th season and making a new TV show. That would just be an obvious money grab.

Well...  I  kind of see where you're coming from there, but I don't really agree.

The obvious money grab was turning Twilight Sparkle into a princess, and now that they've done that, I don't really see what more can be done with the show.  Of course, we'll have to just wait until season 4 to see what the plan is, but it seems to me like there aren't that many more lessons to be learned, especially since Celestia said Twi isn't her student anymore.

If they run out of story, then it would be pointless to continue on past season 4,  and rather than just end it altogether, I would like to see another group of ponies get a chance.

What have you got to be afraid of?
