Q: What is this?

A: This is the 2014 MLPF World Cup. It's a tournament based on the FIFA World Cup. It's a fun (and objective) way to declare best pony in the forums. It's been inspired by @Doctor XFizzle's March Madness Tournament which you can see here, but this is much bigger and grander.

 

Q: I was reading about World Cup Qualification on this thread. What's that?

A: The World Cup Qualification is a way to narrow down the characters significantly. There are many characters who have strong fan bases, but we needed to showcase the top 32. The characters were randomly drawn into 16 groups of 8. The top two characters in each group qualified for the 2014 MLPF World Cup. The matches took place between December and February.

 

Q: What's going on right now?

A: The most exciting part of the World Cup! The Knockout Stages are on! We get to narrow down the competition from 16 to 8 to 4 to 2 and then to ONE WINNER!

 

Q: What will happen next?

A: It's TIME TO PLAY THE WORLD CUP MATCHES!!!! COME DOWN HERE AT 8:00 PM EST AND GET VOTING!

 

Q: When will the 2014 MLPF World Cup start?

A: June 11th. The same day Brazil plays Croatia in Sao Paulo to begin the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Our schedule will be the same as the 2014 FIFA World Cup. We'll be copying the 2014 FIFA World Cup schedule, which you can find here.

 

Q: What happens in ties?

A: If it so happens that at the group stages there are ponies tied in points, then the following tiebreaker rules will be used in order of priority: 

1. Voter Differential
2. Head-to-Head Matchup
3. Random Draw

Her name's Pyralis.  Pryalis (Pronounced, Puh-ral-us, as said above) is a Phoenix, with feathers made up of every colour of the rainbow, symbolizing the brightness of our loveable ponies, and how the sight always makes us Smile Smile Smile when sad. Her name means 'Of Fire', symbolizes our burning passion for the small horses. As well as her form of creature, it symbolizes our love, the life lessons we've gained from the show. It symbolizes the strong connection we all share as bronies and pegasisters.  Legend has it this bird will streak across the sky when an act of true friendship happens. What better a mascot? The MLPF World Cup is all about bringing us together as friends, as connecting with one another to see who truly is best pony of the forums. 

 

 

 

 

WORLD CUP POSTING RULES

1. NO DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS. I WANT THE VOTING RESULTS TO BE FAIR AND SQUARE, AND NOT INFLATED.

2. NO DEFAMATION OF ANY KIND, WHETHER TOWARDS A MEMBER OR A PONY. RESPECT YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS. PONIES STILL LOVE EACH OTHER. WHY WOULDN'T YOU?

3. I LIKE PICTURES! MAKE SURE THEY AREN'T NSFW THOUGH!

4. YOU ARE IN THE "WORLD CUP STADIUM" HERE. SO I EXPECT ONLY SUPPORT FOR YOUR PREFERRED CHARACTER, AND NOTHING RELATED TO A PONY BEING BAD OR A PONY BEING THE WORST. IN A REAL WORLD CUP GAME, YOU'D GET KICKED OUT FOR RACIST, SEXIST, OR OTHER NSFW COMMENTS! THE SAME GOES HERE!

5. NO BRIBING FOR VOTES EITHER, THROUGH BROHOOFS, MONEY, OR OTHER ITEMS OF WORTH.

6. NO SPAMMING AND NO THREATS OF ANY KIND.

Cool, cool, looking forward to this tournament a lot Sterling! I might have Lightning Dust a pot higher though, since she's at least a more important character than Colgate and Flitter. I'm also not sure if Pinkie and Pinkamena should be entered as separate characters.

I considered moving Lightning Dust up. Good idea! I think I'll move down Flitter then, since Colgate can still be a fan favourite. I was running out of characters to choose from with Pinkie and Pinkamena. Should I replace Pinkamena with an OC character perhaps?

The only change I want is to put Lightning Dust in a higher pot, other than that this tournament will be a competition in the making!

Lightning Dust is now on Pot 3, while Flitter is relegated to Pot 4. Pots 3 and 4 may be the same thing, but Pot 3 does have more importance than Pot 4.

I FORGOT SPIKE?! OH MY GOD! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!! KILL ME NOW!

 

Spike will be placed in Pot 1 immediately!

 

I have removed Twilight Velvet, placed Cheerilee down a pot, and also placed Babs Seed and Hoity Toity down a pot, Thanks for pointing that out!

Keeping in tune to what you have said, I will remove Pinkamena. I have decided to place Button Mash as a substitute because he's decently popular as a dark horse,

Love the idea of this tournament Sterling, I am really looking forward to this. I hope the mods will pin it like they did with the March Madness Tourney.

 

I love how you've balanced out each group to have one major character and several other secondary and minor characters. So far so good.

Like I said, I love the looks of Group P. However, I also find Group L very interesting. I can see an upset or two provided there's enough voters.

I already have an OC character in Button Mash and I don't want to further ruin the competition. However, since matches haven't started yet, I'll consider taking her out and replacing her with Fluffle Puff. It's unlikely to happen however because I already finished a random draw. Changing characters would distort the randomness and I'd have to redo the draw.

If anyone isn't sure of how the qualifying stages work, I'll use Group A as an example:

 

Group A

Applejack

Mrs. Cake

Truffle Shuffle

Twist

Flitter

Upper Crust

Daisy

Angel

Each character in this group will play 7 matches. For example, Applejack will have a voting match against the other characters in her group. She'll have 24 hours to get more votes than her opponent. If she gets more votes, she wins. If she wins enough games to be in the top 2, she'll progress to the next round, which is the ACTUAL World Cup. 

 

So yeah. This is NOT the World Cup yet. But your character had better do well to get there.

Oh my goodness, this looks like fun!  I'm always game for a Best Pony tournament, and it has been awhile since we had one, plus it's very cool to see a different tournament format from that which we usually get with Doctor XFizzle's March Madness Tournament (not that your tournament isn't awesome Doctor, it's just nice to have a change is all).  Looks like you've certainly put a lot of thought and work into organizing this tournament Sterling, and for that I commend you.  Major kudos my friend! 

 

 Now, as for the tournament itself, as the flag bearer of all things Derpy Hooves on these forums, I CALL THEE LOVERS OF DERPY, TO ME, TO ME!!!!!!!!!  We must give our all to see our beloved mailmare to victory!!!  Our numbers are great, and we shall show all that we cannot be stopped!!!  LONG LIVE THE DERP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
